I had hilarious fun trying to run my vxl bandit on 3s. Ended up needing to remove the spoiler, remove the spring clips & add wheel balance weights to the front bumper just the keep the nose down. Rolled & flipped it so many times in the process.
That was fun to watch! I laughed so hard when the tire came off. I cant believe Traxxas would not glue the tires like that. Thats crazy. I guess , you dont need them glued if you dont have much power.
I like you never are picky nor push one direction or the other there are MANY AMAXING RCS OUT THERE NO NEED TO B ONE AGAINST THE OTHER MUCH LOVE FROM MICHIGAN
Bought a new(new-old) Bandit and indeed the front tires had zero glue on em... Though, the rears had a nice clean application solid adhesion. Went ahead and filled that Iittle drain vent... otherwise, all that nasty water and all else just ferments inside there.
I found I have the older version. I did find the front wheels were not glued on at all. I replaced the front bumper as the original was a JOKE. I also found the rear axle carriers are trashed in no time after a few runs. I replaced both with Fast Eddie bearings in new carriers. Make sure you add in the little fiber o-rings required for models with bearings. I found it interesting they list this in the owners manual.
I did this conversion on mine and it was worth the price and effort. It is now a totally different RC! I saved this video because I intend to share it, alot. Just goes to show, you can upgrade and not go with Traxxas only parts.
I've gone through two of these cheap 50/60 amp esc's. They say they can handle 3S but they always burn up after a few runs off-road. I threw an 80amp HobbyStar ESC and 3500KV 3660 sized motor into my Bandit and geared it 26/76 gearing. It's basically identical to my Bandit VXL in terms of speed and performance. Wheelies whenever I want and roughly the same top end speed. About 60mph.
The bandit VXL has softer compound tires upfront actually. The regular bandit comes with a much harder tire compound without foam inserts. They don't glue the hard rubber tires on because they know they'll probably fill up with sand after a while and become unbalanced.
Love your videos man, I still run my 13 year old bandit vxl to this day and I love it. Wish I heard of this combo earlier on as I recently swapped in a sidewinder 4 esc and motor combo, and while it’s plenty fast and has lots of power it cost me nearly 200$ CAD! Cheers.
Brian I've a video in mind for showing the difference they make, I have the bearings in my big box of bearings, but it's just on the bushings at the minute. Thanks for raising this though as it's one of the best low cost upgrades (to fit bearings) on these cars, I did it on the stampede a few years back with very good result
Ahh just watched a bit further and I see it was the brushed model that you upgraded! Now I don’t feel so bad about the sidewinder 4 combo I recently installed!
I originally had the vxl3s setup in my 2wd slash and decided to step up to the vxl6s system from the udr and found out that the vxl3 system is actually faster not to mention somehow has a lot more torque than the 6s setup has.on 3s I had my slash hit 68 with a 16t pinion and a 54t spur with the vxl3s setup.with the vxl6s setup it only reached a top speed of 42mph with same gearing on 3s.even tried running a 34t spur with a 34t pinion on 3s and it actually went slower(only reached 38mph,pathetic)with the vxl6,m s setup.lmfao.needless to say I changed esc to the castle mamba x8s and still couldn't reach the 50mph mark with the 6s motor on 3s.funny thing is I tried the vxl3 motor on 6s and it actually held up for 2 runs and it almost hit 85(83 to be specific)with it till motor fried.lol.havent tried running the 2200kv motor from the udr on 6s yet.since the 2200kv traxxas motor obviously won't hit anywhere near the speeds I hope to hit I decided to buy the 2200kv castle motor as well as a poseidon pro 1800 kv 8s motor and a tp 4070-cm 1400kv 12s motor to try out.if I can't reach at least 120mph with one of those 3 motors I'm driving the slash off a cliff and watching $2500 go to waste as it flies through the air and slams into the ground.that or the slash will be turned into a no prep drag build.either way if I drive it off a cliff I'll change out the castle esc for the vxl6s esc beforehand since the castle esc is a beast and can be used for other builds I have planned. Would also be nice if someone made a front splitter for the slash.made one out of stainless steel and had it to where it barely touched the ground and it worked great till my brakes decided to not work one time and ended up going over a speedbump at around 65mph and needless to say it bent the splitter up soo bad that it actually cut into my right tire slicing it straight through.thankfully it didn't do any other damage to front end other then cutting through the tire but now I need to figure out something else to make up so I can keep front end down at speeds I'm trying to reach.dont want to add tire weights like other people do.would be nice if I knew someone with a 3d printer so we could design something that'll not only work but hold up to a bit of abuse.lol
I have same Surprass combo in the Tamiya Fighter Buggy RX Memorial and ran it today. It is kinda slow, maybe because of drone battery POVWAY 3s 2200mah is not enough power. It is hard to find 3s bigger battery to fit in the round battery tray in a Tamiya rig.
I purchased this motor and ESC. I have no clue if you switched to the optional pinion gear, but am assuming you did because I had no top end speed. If you punch it from a dead stop, it seems all the punch is at low end speeds. I may end up changing both the Spur gear and the Pinion gear. I do not want to run anything higher concerning battery than what I am running. 5400- 7.4 battery. Not the 5,000 11.5. Too many people saying the ESC cannot handle it.
How did you mount the pinion gear? The shaft of the Banggood motor is too short to fit the standard Traxxas Bandit XL-5 pinion gear. The set screw can't be tightened on the motor shaft, because the shaft is too short for that. I had to flip the pinion gear around, with the set screw in an awkward place to make it fit. It doesn't really align well, because i can't reach the set screw otherwise. How did you do that?
Can you advise me on which budget brushless set up would work on my sons traxxas rustler xl-5 please? Guessing the different weight between my sons rustler and your bandit makes a difference on which KV to go with. My partner made my sons rustler start smoking and it hasn’t worked since. I’m not made of money and it’s just been sitting collecting dust since that happened around a year ago. Any advise would be very Very much appreciated. Tia
So this brush less kit works well with the wl toys 124019 ihave 1 ran it in a deep puddle now its clogging bad need to fix it also need a remote with better range for a good price around 30 bucks also do you think this car is better than the wl toy 124019? Imight buy this as well I want 2 but not sure if Traxxas is worth the extra cash
Is this stock XL-5 gearing (21/83) or has the gearing been changed? It would seem unlikely to reach 45mph with stock gearing as the Bandit VXL only reach ~50+ mph on the Velineon 3500kv motor with its much more aggressive stock gearing (26/76)?
hey man i'm interested to get this combo but do you need to code it or can i just plug it in and play and if i need to code it please make a video about it thx Maccamood sorry not needed anymore did some lookin up and its all fine now thx
Is there an upgrade I could do easily on this that can make it as fast as the bandit vxl because with new gearing it goes 60ish, also how expensive is a new set of tires with rims for this
With that new brushless I'll say you'll go anywhere from 25mph to 110mph, lol. In fact I'll put money on it. My luck you'll hit 112mph, lol thanks Ritchie
Who can advise me I have a Bandit xl-5 and want to do this changement I also have a 2s lipo will this be fine enough to change it with this engine and ESC?
No heat issues at all and I ran this at high speed for 20+ mins flat out. The fan is pretty efficient, I suspect like any overheated esc it's down to what gearing you fit to it, but no problems my end so far
I ended up putting a 120amp 3s hobby wing brushless system in my bandit and it’s way too much power, had to buy a wheelie bar and bigger rear wheels to even be able to drive it.
How come velineon gets 55mph also 3300kv and 60a esc. I think these Chinese lie about the specs and output. 45mph is slow on a 3s Also does it have low voltage cutoff? Would suck if it killed your lipo
Velineon is 3500Kv and the velineon esc is constant 200A with 320A burst and that's why it makes the difference. This has LVC on it. The velineon setup though costs $170+!
Get The 3300KV Brushless Combo in the USA in a week here - www.banggood.com/custlink/GGmyOW182E
Will this fit on the brushed mini E-Revo you think. As long as nothing overheats thet setup looks awesome for $38
3s battery recommendation from banggood?
I have the 4370kv version and IT is as fast with the 3000mah nihm battery as yours is on 3s i would buy that one next time IT absolutely shreds
Chinese company's have such stupid names lol
@@iamjvdbvdb6759 lol what if you combined it with the 3s 😬 imagine how fast it would go.

Those youtubers don’t make it very far. You have to be neutral when you’re reviewing tech products / anything in general.

Thanks for the feedback man. Does the combo work with NiMH batteries as well or just LiPo?

That's off tap
I recently bought new wheels for my stock 124019, and the same thing happened to me! Rolled away for over 50m!

No doubt you would have picked up a few more mph with a better LIPO too. I would have loved to see you run the 4370kv. Fun video!
Not sure if you have changed them yet, but the XL5 bandit usually has wheel bushings instead of bearings. That may help make a little bit more speed.

Thanks for the information

My experience with those 60a ecs's, dont let them get too hot on 3s, they will burn up the internal BEC, otherwise its great affordable combo. 😁
Thanks for the tip!
Would you have a video on the actual conversion process? Please

Hey richie with that VXL-3m get the heatsink for the motor. I have beat on this motor and esc so hard, it's a beast.
I have the heat sink fitted! Heads up much appreciated on 2s it’s quick on 3s it’s like OMG!!!
What pin gear and spur gear did you use on the new brushless motor?
Hey could you try the goolrc motor and esc in the traxxas rustler 4x4 brushed pla
Super cool video that’s an amazing deal
Do I need to change the battery connector? If so, can you add a link of what I need? I ordered the combo for my Rustler xl-5

Hahaha
That is an AWESOME upgrade!!!! I might have to order one for my nephew's 2wd slash!!!
Go for it!
Can you help me with the battery from banggood that wouls work for this but fit in a 2wd Rustler. Basic. Battery i got is to long
Who can advise me I have a Bandit xl-5 and want to do this changement I also have a 2s lipo will this be fine enough to change it with this engine and ESC?
Any chance of you showing how to use that program card properly. Great videos by the way.
I can do that without a problem
@@DriftomaniacsRC Thank you so much!!
That’s cool 😎
Do you have to have the program card to make the switch from stock motor in the bandit?
Nope! The card just lets you adjust the braking and the punch But 90% of the benefits without it
Reading the reviews on bangcock a lot of people complain these Escs catch on fire. What do you think?
No heat issues at all and I ran this at high speed for 20+ mins flat out. The fan is pretty efficient, I suspect like any overheated esc it's down to what gearing you fit to it, but no problems my end so far
Wow love it haha
Will the 4370 work also with the bandit
I just ordered it I’ll let you know
I have that same system in my rustler but my gearing is messed up it runs cooler on 3s than 2s and it wont wheelie at all, what gearing do you have?
Stock spur and the optional go fast pinion
@@DriftomaniacsRC Ok thanks, do you know how many teeth the optional one has? I got my rustler used and do not have it.
will this fit in a latrax teton?
Probably not. Sorry
Is that an orange Seiko of some kind?
watch is from Tommy Bahama!
Out of control fast lol
I ended up putting a 120amp 3s hobby wing brushless system in my bandit and it’s way too much power, had to buy a wheelie bar and bigger rear wheels to even be able to drive it.
I think I will get a wheelie bar!
Regear
What does 2 3 4s mean?
The cell battery the higher the cell the more power
And how much was it 😅
Is there someone that looks after you we can call :-)

Won’t be able to handle a 4wd basher like a slash or kin
