yes grisha is a awesome player,though i think he should take the advice sabicas gave to paco de lucia,when paco was young,he told paco that it was great that he could emulate his style,but to find his own voice and start composing his own pieces,great playing all the same

The guy spent thousands of hours practicing his artform. Reducing that to the vagueness of talent is like saying he didn't work ridiculously hard to get where he's at.
Same spirit yes, but you can hear its not Paco playing. Nobody has been able to emulate his tone and feel. Its kinda like Jimi Hendrix, you just hear a bit and can instantly tell whether its Jimi playing or someone else.
I think he's earned his own "duendo" at this point! No one can play one of Sabicas' compositions with the same "duendo" as Grisha, because he IS Sabicas.
@@rykehuss3435 What's missing, is the 200 notes per second picado runs that Paco is famous for. It has nothing to do with feel, duende, the spirit of Flamenco, or any of that subjective nonsense. Without warp speed picados, a Paco De Lucia imitation is not complete, even if everything else is immaculate. It's the same scenario when guys cover Al Di Meola without sufficient alternate picking technique. There's a reason John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola chose Paco to collaborate with, over the other elite Flamenco guitarists.

I just got to see Grisha play live in Milwaukee last week. I can confirm, he is absolutely phenomenal. It was a free concert, but I would have gladly paid to have this man absolutely nail all of my favorite flamenco classics.
Many people don't know how diffficult it is to master sound when playing traditional flamenco but still they do criticize (instead of sending love or real information).
Fr man. I’ve been playing flamenco for 10 years and it doesnt even come close to sounding this clean. Like i wonder what they do to make it sound so clean. Im starting to doubt that I’ve reached the limit of my music powers.
Flamenco doesn't have to sound clean, otherwise it is bad flamenco, remember that is music from the streets, music from marginated people who knows nothing about music but a lot about how to expres themselves on an instrument

With the passing of Paco, I’m glad there are players willing & able to carry on the legacy. Even though there might never be another Paco, & he is sorely missed, this player brightens my heart.
Grisha is better than Paco in my opinion technically and the sound is more clear, beautiful and he plays more musically. I don't care about this 'classical' or 'real' flamenco style if it means to play dirty, with a lot of noise from fingers sliding or nails accidentally hitting a string when player didn't intend it. Grisha is better than Paco in all these aspects. Not surprising too, Grisha lives in our age with more access to different recordings and other information
@@ViolentFury1 you may be right from a technical point of view. Even tho Paco's playing was insanely technical already. But Grisha doesn't necesseraly play "more musically" than Paco, whose strenght was also in the creative aspect, re-visiting and expanding flamenco music to a degree that's never been done before and will probably never be done again.

The player John 5 actually said he practiced so much as a kid his left hand became larger than his right. So this guy probably practiced since an early age. His pinky size is in fact a bit large compared to the rest of the hand. That doesnt mean you cant get to his level. Django the famous jazz composer had his hands fused in an accident and could only use 2 of his left fingers, he managed to still play at an incredible level. I think what's more important is how much you love what you are doing :)
Not exactly. I start at the age of 14 , my fingers were short. At the age of 16 ,when I stopped play guitar,my finger were slender and the ones of the left hand were 1 cm bigger than the fingers of the right hand.

AGAIN. It is the legend! Grisha!!!! :-) I am so into great flamenco guitar. Paco (RIP) was and is SO magnificent and HUGELY influential over contemporary flamenco guiatism. THIS man, Grisha, has "the thing" going on. BRAVO!!!!!
Speaking of "the thing"... One of my most beloved and amazing teachers was Jay Andrus (who studied with the legendary James Chambers) - 4th Horn of the Houston Symphony for MANY years (then retired and played Principal Horn with the Houston Ballet - yeah, he was/is complete) and always talked about and stressed the importance of "the thing" in the sound. He (and, naturally, I) are classic Conn 8D guys (you know what I mean, if you are a French hornist). The "thing" is not just something in the sound, however... NO. It is also THE THING that makes your musicianship compelling, effective, exciting, sublime, beautiful, beautifully ugly, beautifully whatever... UNFORGETABLY RIGHT. Yeah. Grisha has "the thing".
Uhhh. Quite the stereotype. I know no other russian on that level...culturally, this music comes most natural to spaniards, because they grow up with it. To enter that scene is hard for an outside, but Grisha has managed to establish himself firmly in the flamenco world.

AGAIN. It is the legend! Grisha!!!! :-) I am so into great flamenco guitar. Paco (RIP) was and is SO magnificent and HUGELY influential over contemporary flamenco guiatism. THIS man, Grisha, has "the thing" going on. BRAVO!!!!!
Speaking of "the thing"...
One of my most beloved and amazing teachers was Jay Andrus (who studied with the legendary James Chambers) - 4th Horn of the Houston Symphony for MANY years (then retired and played Principal Horn with the Houston Ballet - yeah, he was/is complete) and always talked about and stressed the importance of "the thing" in the sound. He (and, naturally, I) are classic Conn 8D guys (you know what I mean, if you are a French hornist). The "thing" is not just something in the sound, however... NO. It is also THE THING that makes your musicianship compelling, effective, exciting, sublime, beautiful, beautifully ugly, beautifully whatever... UNFORGETABLY RIGHT.
Yeah. Grisha has "the thing".

Uhhh. Quite the stereotype. I know no other russian on that level...culturally, this music comes most natural to spaniards, because they grow up with it. To enter that scene is hard for an outside, but Grisha has managed to establish himself firmly in the flamenco world.

I've played guitar for nearly 50 years. Watching this guy makes me feel like I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing - and never have.. Damn!
Don't worry, just imagine you are playing clarinett instead oft guitar, so the comparison between you and him does not effect your self-concoiusness when constating that he is playing better ... (See: you don't have to play as good him, just explain the difference in your special way of view - and things are good).

There is a lot of sacrifice years achieving such level of perform and intellect. I see a young man with a perfect sense of the flamenco heritage and culture thru Paco creations. It makes him a translator and exponent of this culture to the world as good as it is. My most sincere admiration for you Grisha for keeping the flamenco fire on forever.
