Have the same clear flex pipe for almost 40 years in Quebec. Not exposed to the sun and will last forever. Depends on environment.

Great videos! So would I be able to use schedule 40 PVC from Lowes ? Thanks

To answer my own question, I just went to Lowe’s and confirmed that they carry the deep collar pool fittings, and they do have a nice assortment of fittings

How about PVC schedule 80 since it is thicker than schedule 40 ?

Hi Steve, thank you for the video. This is the best pool channel on RUclips :)
How does the black pipe with insert fitting hold up? My plumber highly recommended we go with the 2" black pipe over 2" pvc, there they heated the pipe to install the instert then used glue with 2 straps on each side on fitting. I live in NY and we have bad winters maybe this is way they only us it? Is this as good as using rigid pvc? Thank you!

There are some builders which still use poly pipe though not many left. In the 70's and 80's it was the most popular in colder climate areas for sure. It has better crush resistance than flex pvc and better shatter resistance than rigid pvc. But it does have those barbed connections. It's not ideal, but when done well can last pretty much indefinitely. Yours sound good. Heat, double clamps opposite direction. Maybe a little dope on the barbs. All high quality SS clamps. Note there are lower quality and higher quality poly pipe. The worst was white stripe non pressure rated. Red stripe and green stripe are good, pressure rated. All black can be good, but can also be conduit grade, which is not fit for pool plumbing. In total it is a bugger to work withndue to the memory in the pipe coils. Like wrestling an anaconda. It can be good quality but I don't use it. Not against it when done well.

How many years should schedule 40 last underground without leaking for the swimming pool?
IMO: UV rays from the Sun affect it so I cover it with a tarp.

I had used white 4" schedule 40 pvc for an above ground storm water drain. It sat outside in the sun/winter/summer for 14 years. It was unaffected by the sun. To test, I smacked it with a 3 pound sledge hammer. Hammer bounced off.

How do I keep my pipe on my pool from shaking when motor starts

It surprises me when I watch pool videos from other parts of the world where they use a lot of flexible pipe or Schedule 20.

Yikes schedule 20 is not something I see often. Flex I see every day in Ontario Canada. But west coast Canada you hardly ever see flex. Its schedule 40, 80 or even CPVC. the tall building act there requires heat rated pvc for the entire installation so there are tons of commercial pools entirely plumbed with some super expensive CPVC systems.

In NW Europe hard pvc for pool plumbing is between 110 and 230 PSI, with 150 PSI being the most common type. Hard PVC is only used for the technical room as it is called over here. You are right, between filter and pool we use flexible PVC pipes. It’s still very rigid (not a vacuum hose) and around 80 PSI with 0.12 inch thick walls. I also noticed hard PVC is used in US which I think is much more durable. The flexible PVC is much easier and faster to install. The high labour cost in Europe is probably the reason why it’s being used by default. PS: love the channel which is well known in the pool community over here. 👍

Never put fittings underground if you can help it.
