As a martial artist, in which we are trained as a disciplined person, I agree in the last line in which as much as possible, we avoid fights since we don't know what might happen, thank you that I learned here the best to knock out the opponent is not a literal knockout but to knockout a fight, meaning avoid fight as much as possible, just talk then ok unless the situation is against or a threat to your life, its better if possible to knockout a punching bag or dummy or a a person holding with a pad in a training rather than a person him/herself because you dont know maybe a person is a martial artist also which just hids the identity in which we commonly do
I used to train spinning flying head butt in swimming pool when I was in high school, ohh sorry, it was spinning falling headbutt 😅 love your videos always
As our sifu always told us: "Mean every strike as a knockout but do never expect them to be." Basically, this means that every strike you land must aim to knock the ennemy out, but the fight isn't over until he lies unconscious on the floor or runs away. This is not a game, it goes on life or death. When knocked out you temporarily lose all of your muscle tonus, which means you go limb and have no control over your fall. A knockout can be deadly if one hits their head or neck while falling down. Don't do it for fun, only if there is no possibility of avoiding the fight or of running away.
My favorite area is the entire jaw line, the reason it works is because of the way it's designed it pretty much serves as a lever to spin the head quickly upon impact that causes the brain to smack against the skull back and forth.
One of the more consistent spots I've seen for knockouts is striking the pressure point where your jaw meets the bottom of the earlobe (I believe it is the base of the Trigeminal Nerve, it's the boxer's Glass Jaw), similar to what you mentioned, but it tends to get the most results. A lot of the punches to the head tend to affect this nerve indirectly (punching the chin pushes the jaw back into that nerve, kicks to the side of the head occasionally overlap it, and, well the back of the head is a place you attack if you want to kill the person (the cerebellum and the base of the spine are located along the occipital ridge). One of the people I knew who studied aikido also noted that when the knockout occurs, the target's head is usually turned to the side, exposing that target area much more. Personally, I've never knocked out another person. In fact, I have only been knocked out once from a fall, though fortunately the medical tests did not find any damage. I have delivered several TKO's though By that I mean I strike the torso, and my opponent crumples and falls and can't stand up for at least a minute or two. Actually, this tended to occur accidentally too. I had a lot of trouble controlling my strength in high school. That was after a decade of training to be faster and stronger than everybody I fought. The next decade of training, I specifically focused on control and actually weakened myself significantly to minimize mishaps. It was funny because I was on the soccer team and the football team would practice next to us. I remember their coach try to make a point of how tough they were when one of his players was bleeding. Thing is, my school had no rugby or lacrosse teams, which were what I actually wanted to play, so instead I took a rugby player's approach to soccer. I actually terrified the football players because I would hit and take hits more powerful than theirs and I did it without all their pads.

I'd love to see Sensei Ando's answer on this (and now, if he replies, I should also see it :) ) - my own answer would be that a lot of what is seen as 'the karate way' of throwing punches, stances etc is more to do with training the body so it will use the hip correctly, use the full length of the punch/stride/stance etc. The idea being if you kinda overdo it a bit in training, when you shorten up for a real fight and the adrenaline kicks in, you'll still turn the hip enough, extend the punch enough. I think the problem is often just that this point isn't often explained, especially to lower grades. And, of course, a lot of the 'deeper' meanings in karate were lost around the end of the 19th century, so some of it may be misunderstandings. According to some of the texts, for example, the long deep stances seen in Shotokan Karate were added as training stances by Funakoshi Gigo (son of Funakoshi Gichin, the style's founder) in the earlier 20th century, specifically to strengthen legs. His father had always taught a more upright, shorter-stanced style. Similarly, if you can find videos of some of the old masters performing kata (there was at least one featuring Ohtsuka (the founder of Wado Ryu) on RUclips) you'll see that again their stances are higher and shorter. They also rarely if ever kick above the waist, because they were more interested in keeping their balance than throwing flashy head-kicks.
Could you do a video on the effectiveness of Wing Chun? I've been very intrigued by this form of self defense and I've both heard and seen a couple videos "demonstrating" how wing chun is ineffective on a practical self-defense situation compared to say, some traditional boxing. I'd be curious to hear your take on this.
One of my friends know how to not get knocked out so easily u have to time it right and as soon as you get hit go with it don't struggle move ur head with the punch ur not going to be able to block and move out the way all the time
Well correction on the part about fantasyland I once lost to my opponent in shadowboxing. Yep you read it correct shadowboxing. Inspired by Grappler Baki
Hello sir Ando, i never been a big fan of knockouts cause in my experience... as short person i prefer to disable my opponents (i loving stamping on their toes and kicking on their knees;P) rather than going for knockouts and it works for me as well as its very effective.
exactly, it not only brings them down but also i succeeded in immobilizing them and that means... after i am done with them and took my chance to run away, i don't have to worry about them following me
Great advice and tips as always, Sensei! However I am quite interested to hear your oppinion regarding fighting a group (2, 3, 5, 15, 20+ people) where you generally don't have the luxury of time and space to "work your way to a knock out" with one individual while others may follow up on the assault or just attack you simultaniously and not just 1 on 1 situations. Situations where idealy you want/need to knock out/disable one individual with one strike so that you can deal with the next incoming attacker. What are your thoughts?
The key issues here are commitment and follow-up. If you over-commit, you're vulnerable... against one or 100. If you don't follow-up, you're also vulnerable. So, I'm saying stay in control and keep fighting. Don't think you're going to just throw bombs and people are going to fall down like bowling pins!
Ando Mierzwa Thank you, Sensei. Good points. But I'm sorry, I didn't phrase properly. You've stated in your video that you need to "setup your knockout", "you can't always rely on speed and power", "physical project vs strategic project". My question was along the lines: how can you afford to "setup a knockout" with multiple attackers? You'd have little to no time available to setup for one attacker, because you're fighting a group. As I'm sure you know, in real life, in groups attackers don't wait in line to attack like in movies. Sometimes they all jump you at once, therefore you can't afford to "play" with a single opponent, you might not have time to follow up on a single person. I know a few answers myself to this question, being a teacher myself. But I really like your style, I love your work, enjoy your videos and am curious to learn your oppinion. I always enjoy learning from others.
Sorry for the confusion, sir! I never said to "play" with anyone! I said to never EXPECT a knockout... which means there is no "set-up". You just fight. Fighting is the set-up! The strategy is to attack and keep going, being careful not to throw yourself off-balance in the process. Of course, you'll use all the speed and power you've got, but if the other guy (or guys) are faster and stronger, then it's your mental game that gives you a chance.
Holly’s great... I just never understand why a fighter doesn’t make adjustments when they get countered repeatedly. Or just go bananas when time is running out and you know you’re losing. But everything seems easy sitting on the couch!
Ando Mierzwa true, holly has become a very tense fighter and doesn't finish her fights, the rest of the event was amazing, I want to see Conor return and defend against Khabib, it would be a fight between a high level grappler and high level striker
Hello Mr. Ando! I have a question. I've started helping teach classes at the Dojang I take classes at. I've been helping for a few months now, but I keep having the same problem. I'm a very quiet and anxious person, so I find myself getting flustered when asked to lead the class and all eyes are on me, or when I'm asked to help a student one-on-one. I know the material, but I always second guess myself. Is there some way to keep from getting so nervous, or do you have tips for teaching in general? Thank you so much, I love your videos!
I have LOTS to say about teaching. You can find a few articles here: www.senseiando.com/?s=teach&submit=Search For me, the more I prepare, the less anxiety I feel. It's not just know the material, it's knowing how to SHARE the material. That is a separate skill set. Learning martial arts is not the same thing as teaching martial arts! So, be patient with yourself the same way you are patient with beginning students. You'll get better! It also helps to focus on YOUR STUDENT and not you. Think about how THEY feel and what THEY need to hear. And don't be afraid to smile! That makes the process more enjoyable for everyone! :)
I study all different fighting I don't just use Kung fu I mix it up use every part that I learned into one but he's right I have to use ur brain in a fight u can't just start swinging and don't keep using the same fighting combo that's how people adapt
The only reason I'm learning to fight is because my brother is a very strong person who stopped people from bullying me and wanted him too not be the only strong one he's still better because he started when he was 6 he's 26 now I'm 17 started at 12
What about a serious blow targeting liver position or lower belly part or other inner body parts? :p I think body is a bigger target then head as I faced it once :p and could not move with comfort for 3 days. Well done 😎 thanks a lot
Is it necessary to lift weights for amateur boxing ?
I have lost count of how many people have died when their head hit the ground just in the city where i live. Very common. Be home by 10:00 p.m.!
Wing Chun is not my style, so I’d only be commenting as an outsider. Plus, it’s always about the person more than the style.🙏🏻
What about liver I land a back kick and my opponent knocks out so is it not a good target 🤔🤔🤔
The liver is a great target for a knockdown, but a knockout? Wow. Keep kicking!
Excellent
Thank you very much!
Only problem is-- hitting head targets-- depending on how the target moves-- can also get you a jail stay for murder.. it's a very sensitive game.
OSS, Sensei. Thank you Sir.
OSS to you as well, Kathleen! :)
One of my friends know how to not get knocked out so easily u have to time it right and as soon as you get hit go with it don't struggle move ur head with the punch ur not going to be able to block and move out the way all the time
Roll with those punches...
Yeah it actually works for some reason me and him spar but we spar like we in a real fight so we don't just be afraid that much
Great!
Arigato gozaimas sensei!
Thank you for watching!
Well correction on the part about fantasyland I once lost to my opponent in shadowboxing. Yep you read it correct shadowboxing. Inspired by Grappler Baki
I have punched myself in the face once or twice as well... :)
Ando Mierzwa Well I have done that too.
Well done! :)
Thank you sir...
My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Spinning Flying Headbutt... I'd love to see this for real Lol!
I'm waiting for a video, too :D
Ando Mierzwa LOL
The way things are right now in canada we are all mostly training alone .
POV: come from cobra Kai when he disable his ability to wager
But why do you don't show i wan't to do it!
Hello sir Ando, i never been a big fan of knockouts cause in my experience... as short person i prefer to disable my opponents (i loving stamping on their toes and kicking on their knees;P) rather than going for knockouts and it works for me as well as its very effective.
Bring them down to you... yes!
exactly, it not only brings them down but also i succeeded in immobilizing them and that means... after i am done with them and took my chance to run away, i don't have to worry about them following me
Good plan! Of course, if you can run away first, even better! :)
i would love to run away first but most of the time i am not that lucky to experience such luxury :P
You need to find a safer neighborhood!
very interesting video
Ando Mierzwa I see. Thank you, sir for taking the time to answer. Keep up the great work! Looking foward to learn more from your perspective.
Whew! Glad that made sense. Happy training, sir!
Sir I get hits and kicks by my friends I will try this if I get bulled again
You might need new friends!
Thanks really is need new friends.......😄
the first knock out i ever got i thought i heard an intercom say K.O.
HA! 😄
What were your thoughts on UFC 219?
Holly’s great... I just never understand why a fighter doesn’t make adjustments when they get countered repeatedly. Or just go bananas when time is running out and you know you’re losing. But everything seems easy sitting on the couch!
Ando Mierzwa true, holly has become a very tense fighter and doesn't finish her fights, the rest of the event was amazing, I want to see Conor return and defend against Khabib, it would be a fight between a high level grappler and high level striker
I'd like to see that fight, too!
Ando Mierzwa what are your thoughts on lethwei?
Hello Mr.
You can find a few articles here: www.senseiando.com/?s=teach&submit=Search
For me, the more I prepare, the less anxiety I feel.
Thank you so much! I'll be sure to put your advice into practice as soon as possible! Have a great day!
I study all different fighting I don't just use Kung fu I mix it up use every part that I learned into one but he's right I have to use ur brain in a fight u can't just start swinging and don't keep using the same fighting combo that's how people adapt
Hopefully, you don't fight. If you don't fight, hopefully it doesn't last so long that you keep throwing the same combo over and over!
The only reason I'm learning to fight is because my brother is a very strong person who stopped people from bullying me and wanted him too not be the only strong one he's still better because he started when he was 6 he's 26 now I'm 17 started at 12
And need to save myself not just him but now got in shape and now trying to work on stopping others to get bullied
How about a flying sidekick from a 90 lb girl that never fails to put em on the ground, ready to be landed on?
That works! Keep flying, Angela! 😄
4th T: Tyson's power
😄👍🏼
What about a serious blow targeting liver position or lower belly part or other inner body parts? :p I think body is a bigger target then head as I faced it once :p and could not move with comfort for 3 days. Even waking up from sleep was much more painful. BTW I don't like the idea of knocking someone out.
Sure, any hard shot night end the situation, knock out or not. Thanks, Abdul!
Ever since ive moved house and stop doing tae kwon do my technique is getting worse😨😨😨 and i dont think there are good places to learn in my area, i guess i have too watch u videos fulltime now thanks for the tips
Yes! Just do what you can with what you have. Any training is better than no training! :-)
Do you still remember how to play piano ando?
I am boy...but...i have to say he is very handsome though😅😅
HA! 😄 Thanks for that!
Sensie Ando , I wanna go UFC and I already do Mma and my record is 9-0 but I wanna go to UFC can you please guide me how to go to UFC ?
Congrats on your record and ambition, sir! You rock! Unfortunately, I have no info on building a career as a fighter. Do you have a manager yet?
UFC signs a contact with you first
Are you serious ? Did you really ask Ando ?. If you're good enough Dana White will call you, but they need to know you, I suggest you try to get into a club that works with professional competitors and holds senior coaches like Greg Jackson, you can also try to send them parts of your victories.
Good luck.
Ando Mierzwa I don't have a manager !
Raiwat Sagdeo All fight organizations contact you first.
Super sir
Thank you very much!
