I am actually not sure what that phenomenon is called, it happens with planes too, something with the atmosphere and being able to see the actual shadow cast through the air, only happens when you are looking from the perspective of whatever is making the shadow. The twisting makes small adjustments to the throttle whereas pushing and pulling make larger adjustments!
@@TrentonPalmer Had to dive in it now: it's called "retroreflection" - reflecting the incoming light back at the same angle where it came from; its the same effect which makes street signs and cat's eyes so bright. The plane/drone is excatly in line with the shadow and the sun; if you take one light beam passing close by the drone it hits a grass leaf, gets reflected out to the side into another one which happens to reflect it straight back to the observer. Because the reflection can only travel so far "sideways" trough grass it forms its localized round shape around the shadow. Because of the amount of grass leafs and light it is bound to happen; if you were to fly over a perfect mirror you wouldn't see it. That effect also works well with clouds I have read. Fascinating! Twisting the throttle for fine adjustments makes perfect sense to me. Especially as a motorcyclist ;)
