I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments🎲 God Bless you and stay safe
Have followed Taylor's career for 8 years and have seen him live over 30 times. He is fantastic live and in person!! Can't wait for what he has in store for 2015.
Hi Lisa. Well that comment was a year ago. my husband, girlfriend and I just flew to Alabama from Washington State last month and saw Taylor in concert 3 times!! If you ever get the chance to see him live, you must do it. He is amazing.!!! We will see him in Sandpoint, ID in Aug..also looking for other sites. I can't get enough of his live performances. Where do you live?
Hi Judy, I live in Western New York. I lived in South Texas for half my life..but yeah, about Taylor.. He's fantastic! I followed his run on American Idol and voted for him hundreds of times! He's a JOY..
Lisa, have you gone on RUclips and looked for more current videos There were lots posted from the concerts we went to in Alabama. 6 strings are hard on Diamond rings was one of the new songs. You probably already know this!
I love how people think, just because someone isn't "popular" in pop media or on the radio, they must not be successful. I saw Taylor live last year at Paris Las Vegas. Not only were his shows sold out EVERY night (we barely got tickets) to a very large audience, the show he put on was amazing! He is quite the entertainer. He's really blossomed since AI and is doing very well for himself in Vegas.
The songwriter always has a special touch when performing his own songs and Ray L. is no exception. Just saw him on Austin City Limits and he was great. That said Taylor did a great job (my daughter prefers Taylor's version). One of Taylor's gifts is he exposes fans to good music.
Despite how some people believe Taylor Hicks and his music are "boring" - there ARE people who enjoy the style he sings with and the kind of music he likes. He obviously won idol because: 1. He can sing, and while he's no Kelly Clarkson, he still has fairly good vocals and 2. He really enjoys what he does. He loves performing for other people, and it shows.
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments🎲 God Bless you and stay safe
Taylor rocks it! Keep on doing what you do dude! You have it going on! Screw the few who don't get it.... their loss! Saw you in concert and you blew the roof off the joint! You had the audience eating out of your hand!
Did you know about the other Ray? The more famous one? Ray Charles people loved Taylor and, after he won AI, brought him to his studio and let him look around and pick out a jacket belonging to Ray, and gave him special cuff links. There is a video here about it, and there was a magazine article. I would say he got high praise from people who knew something about music.
It's called personal preference my friend and Taylor sings a lot of blues music so that gives him more emotion than anyone who basically sounds like a goat every time he sings the same type of song over and over again. Duaghtery's second CD is a basic repeat of his first--same ole same ole.
Randy said that the song didn't allow Taylor to show off but you know something, it's not always about vocal acrobatics. A lot of those singers on Idol wind up being copy cats of Whitney Houston or Nickelback, or what have you and Taylor to me was the one singer in all of Idol history that personified what a great singer should be.
@OldSlyEyes He's still movin and groovin and doin his thing, he just isn't on the radio like the others are, that's all. Check out his albums, he has two major ones, his debut and The Distance which is his followup, both are excellent!
I like Elliott too, and he and Taylor are friends, but they each touch something different in us. All singers do. I think that Taylor had more experience in knowing what to give the audience, and he was more diverse in his songs.
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments🎲 God Bless you and stay safe
Agree 100%! His concerts are completely entertaining and wonderful. I have been to 3 believe so far...and a meet and greet. I agree he is sweet and sexy...Oh yeah I've always wondered: ya know how they have a sexiest man alive award every year-why doesn't he get it?! (matt damon? c'mon...taylor has something much more true and humble about him.) He's just a southern gentleman!
@Graham32200 Ouch! This video happens to be by Taylor Hicks, who had to squeeze Rays song into 1:26 min. on a TV show. And he picked Rays song, which alot of people had not heard about, and immediately sold alot of songs for Ray. I had never heard of Ray myself at the time. So, I happen to like Taylors version..........but that doesn't mean I don't like Rays. And Taylor did it as a tribute to him. Jeez!
Since I've never heard the Montagne original I don't have preconceived ideas about how it should sound. I liked Taylors rendition and found it quite moving. Each should be judged on their own merits - not compared to others.
Certified platinum. Also sold thousands of self produced Cds which many fans prefer. His In Your Time CD at the age of 19 is wonderful. Under the Radar had two songs used on the Taylor Hicks CD(actually 3 - Hell of a Day was included on an exclusive version sold only at Walmart). The trouble with American music isn't the likes of Taylor Hicks. The trouble with Am. music is IMO the teenyboppers and hip hoppers who sell sex, drugs, and violence instead of good music.
I agree. I don't know why people go out of their way to trash Taylor - if you don't like him, don't watch! Although I can't stand what Chris does, he is "good" at it. Can't we all just get along??
There is no denying Taylor is talented period. He is a different singer than Chris. People should respect him for the type of music he sings, and he sings it oh so well. Chris sings his well also, and is successful. So what the hell is the problem? America voted period. You have not seen the last of Taylor.
@888greg888 Exactly! After Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots came out, all of a sudden there were all these clones, which of course included Chad Kroeger from Nickelback and Scott Stapp from Creed..
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments🎲 God Bless you and stay safe
I had never heard him sing so thought I'd take a listen once out of curiosity, plus I'm a huge Ray Lamontagne fan so this seemed like a good choice as I really know the track. Wow, what are some of you people smoking? This guy...wow, not good. I'm sorry not trying to be rude but I was really expecting something much better and am floored how anyone could say his version is better than Ray's. Me no likey.
Two different types altogether. Rays song obviously, Ray sings lowkey and Taylor sings with passion. Both with real talent. I like both approaches. But then I just like music.
@OxfordShades Ray's the original singer - normally if I hear the original version first I'd like it better but I just like Taylor's voice better I guess - but I will say this in Hicks favor - say what you like about American Idol, but I would NEVER have heard this great song if Taylor hadn't sung it - so there!
Hardly anyone knew of this song until Taylor sang it and he helped RL get a boost because of it. However, all he got from Ray was meanness. TH has a better voice anyway.
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD RANDY SING? NUF SAID. I THINK HE DID AN AWESOME JOB ON THAT SONG AND RANDY NEEDS TO PLAY HIS BASS AND CALL IT A DAY BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES TO JUDGING TALENT HIS MISSES BY A MILE.
You mean like labels? In case you haven't noticed, labels are a thing of the past anyway. Any label would feel honored to have an artist who sells 800,000, but artists are going their own way now.
I am not going to diss Ray LaMontagne, because Taylor adores him, but Ray does not hit me in the heart. I know his background, so I know he is a shy person with some problems, so he doesn't generate excitement exactly .........for me. Taylor does that. I can enjoy both tho. Each has his own vibe.
Thanks @glasseecube ! I was starting to lose faith in humanity. People, listen...whether a singer has 90 seconds or 4 minutes, a bad monitor feed or a recording studio-- some voices are just better than others. Look up Ray's live shows and TELL me that he's worse than Taylor. Ray's smokey, passionate tone is what makes this song. It's RAW soul. I don't care who sings it, I think Ray will ALWAYS do it better. Props to Taylor for trying though.
If you liked this, then watch the video of his new single Whats Right is Right. Don't know what JennyU24 is referring to as far as quitting, since he has been full steam ahead since AI. You have to follow in the right places though.
I'm not the first to say it, but this compares most unfavorably to Alex Lambert's performance. I never thought I would say this, but Lambert's performance equaled Jason Castro's suberb "Hallelujah" -- the two best performances, better by a quantum differnce, ever on American Idol. His elimination must now rates as the show's all-time worst blunder.
@fornaxpt I don't think so !!! He is not Ray but I like Taylor !! They are are both AWESOME !!!! But hey , hey hey I am from the south !! look he Won !!!!! Peace !!
Oh my - he actually sang it better than the original singer (Ray Lamontagne) - in my humble opinion of course! - he should have been the BIGGEST Idol in history - but since Daughtry threw a hissy fit and wanted all the best songs - and since Hicks refused to compromise - he's not visible while Carrie Underwhelming pollutes our airwaves.....
DAMN Taylor..I keep just coming back to this song over and over, even after all this time. SOOOOUUULLLL PATROL!!!!. Glad you won babe!
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments🎲
God Bless you and stay safe
Have followed Taylor's career for 8 years and have seen him live over 30 times. He is fantastic live and in person!! Can't wait for what he has in store for 2015.
Judy, that's awesome! I would LOVE to see Taylor sing live. What a treat for me...He is so passionate about the music, you could tell.
Hi Lisa. Well that comment was a year ago. my husband, girlfriend and I just flew to Alabama from Washington State last month and saw Taylor in concert 3 times!! Voileen Soul Patrol!!
Thank you so much for your comment and continues support 🎶 I appreciate it, god bless you and stay safe.
I love him, still in 2018! He is so full of life and a great singer. Cute too!
I wish wish wish he had recorded this song on his CD. This was my favorite of all his AI performances. Great song...love Taylor!!!
I heard the song in a commercial and researched it....Good Song.. Ray has a new Fan..already a taylor fan....
My favorite performance of this song!!
The songwriter always has a special touch when performing his own songs and Ray L. is no exception. Just saw him on Austin City Limits and he was great. That said Taylor did a great job (my daughter prefers Taylor's version). One of Taylor's gifts is he exposes fans to good music.
The BEST American Idol contestant ever! I voted for him x100.
TayTay, baby, we loved you then and we love ya now...
You never, ever, let us down . . .
You're always the Taylor-Man+
Kathleen & Patricia Kelly

God Bless you and stay safe
I was pregnant with my son, Using the hospitals phone voting for him lol
I was 9 years old and my mom would let me stay up late to watch and vote using her phone (paid minutes) to vote for him haha
Taylor rocks it! Keep on doing what you do dude! You have it going on! Screw the few who don't get it.... their loss!

Great song, great performance.
Taylor brought this song to the masses through Idol. I like his version and Ray's.
Wow I like this version. I like his voice too-and he's in tune which is always a plus ;o)
Beautiful!
I love this, thanks for posting. It's one of my very favorite AI performances. I wish Taylor would record this for a CD.
It's called personal preference my friend and Taylor sings a lot of blues music so that gives him more emotion than anyone who basically sounds like a goat every time he sings the same type of song over and over again.
Duaghtery's second CD is a basic repeat of his first--same ole same ole.
Daughtry and Hicks...is like apples and oranges...DIFFERENT!
Awesome!! Best AI Winner yet! Go Taylor Hicks!
@OldSlyEyes He's still movin and groovin and doin his thing, he just isn't on the radio like the others are, that's all. Check out his albums, he has two major ones, his debut and The Distance which is his followup, both are excellent!
@1simaddict1
He didn't sell out. He still plays small venues where he can do what he wants instead of having to be comercial.
so far the best version I heard
@andetruman that is the reason it's called a cover, he Taylor added his own spice to it. I love both versions.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH TAYLOR HICKS I LOVE U FOREVER
I like Elliott too, and he and Taylor are friends, but they each touch something different in us. All singers do. I think that Taylor had more experience in knowing what to give the audience, and he was more diverse in his songs.
I love Taylor's version of this song. He is awesome!
I like Taylor he is really cool!

@OxfordShades
Agreed! Both ARE awesome!
I had never heard this song before Taylor sang it on idol, and I dare say a lot of Idol viewers hadn't heard it either.
Love it.
who really rembers any idol season except the one taylor was on. he was and is the pinacle of the now-boring show.
true taylor is great
A sign of a good song when someone else can do it justice (no matter 'the boys' say)
@Graham32200

Amen to that.
Awsome!!

artbychristine Eleven years ago and it appears it's gone from bad to worse...
This song makes me wanna cry and throw a pity party for myself....LOL...
but I love it!
There is no denying Taylor is talented period. He is a different singer than Chris. People should respect him for the type of music he sings, and he sings it oh so well. One of the best AI performances ever !
Ray Lamontagne is great, but Taylor helped him sell a lot of music when he introduced Ray to a lot of new fans. I loved his performance of this song.
@Endriking I think he was about 29 or so. He has some thing that makes his hair turn gray early.
@LambertsLabelle1 I agree I wish he would record his version.
He went to AI and won. How many of us has anything in our lives that comes close to that?
Don't know if he ever performed it, but I think he would also do well with "T-R-O-U-B-L-E".
are you ok????? he is awesome.
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments🎲

Season five was two years ago! Stop lamenting if your idol didn't win and just support them. Taylor did win..end of story.
I had never heard him sing so thought I'd take a listen once out of curiosity, plus I'm a huge Ray Lamontagne fan so this seemed like a good choice as I really know the track. Wow, what are some of you people smoking? This guy...wow, not good. Better than Ray's version! Taylor NEEDS to cover this on his next album!
I like him, I'm glad he won!
Taylor Hicks is the Best!! go beat your jealousy to some other people...
Hardly anyone knew of this song until Taylor sang it and he helped RL get a boost because of it. However, all he got from Ray was meanness. TH has a better voice anyway.
that was excellent! simon just had to find a criticism! smh!
Here in 2024 to hear me fav. American Idol 😃
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD RANDY SING? NUF SAID. I THINK HE DID AN AWESOME JOB ON THAT SONG AND RANDY NEEDS TO PLAY HIS BASS AND CALL IT A DAY BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES TO JUDGING TALENT HIS MISSES BY A MILE.
me either. I thought he would be great with this song when i clicked on, but it holds no candle to Ray
You mean like labels? In case you haven't noticed, labels are a thing of the past anyway. Any label would feel honored to have an artist who sells 800,000, but artists are going their own way now.

coolio!!
I don't get why Randy didn't like this, it was one of his better performances, IMO.

Does that really matter?? Each singer is different and this is his rendition of the song.
Randy is nuts. Is he deaf? This was awesome.
If you liked this, then watch the video of his new single Whats Right is Right.

Anyone remember the song Taylor sang when Simon said he was like a drunk guy at a wedding?
i AGREE
didnt taylor win? where he at?
oh snap
.........to each his own, but thanks for the view.
I'm not the first to say it, but this compares most unfavorably to Alex Lambert's performance. @Graham32200 Yeah, ouch! Lol....I'm with ya. Ray is like no other, so uniquely gifted and natural. I have a man crush on RL.
@andetruman Mr. LaMontagne didn't have to sing an abbreviated version for a "talent" show.
good cover man
RAY ALL DAY
"Didn't let you show off"??? Come on Randy. And Taylor, you didn't need to explain to those nuts. WE heard your vocals, loud and clear.
That was "Living For the City."
wow, Simon actually gave someone a COMPLIMENT for a change!
Well, not in person! And having lost a little weight.......he is very handsome!
I think he's a little weird.... BUT I still love his singing!!
wow.. this guy won
But you gotta give him credit for picking a good song. You'll never hear a song like this on AI ever again. And it's sad.
I like them both but I do like Taylor's voice better.
Is that wayne rooney on 3:32 ???
people are just too busy looking at his appearance than his unique stage presence..:)
Taylor looks nothing like Jay Leno in person. He looks young and very , very handsome.
he was 28
@oldikins wtf r u smoking dude ray kicks his ass. ray has one of the purest voices out there
like the song you make with jimmy and stephan cobert (friday)
