Taylor Hicks never took himself too seriously, but he developed a lot of haters on Idol (teenage girls and middle aged whiite men) because middle aged women who outvoted teenaged girls and wanker middle aged men in lust with Kat McFee. We middle aged women got sick of that damn show throwing teenage Whitney Houston wannabees at us year after year. I voted my ass off during that show and his fan base (Soul Patrol) became a good band of ladies all about lifting up their star. They met at shows. Total strangers. Yes, he should be more famous, but if he had been, we probably wouldn't have been so excited to see him hone his instrument on Broadway (Teen Angel in Grease) and in Vegas. He sounds so much better than before, even.
The best songs on his post-idol winner's CD were the songs he wrote/co-wrote, imo. But, they didn't release any of those songs as singles. The label dropped him after one album and he released an indie album performing one of his original songs that he wrote/co-wrote on American Idol. He got a standing ovation from all of the judges, including Simon Cowell.
Yes he needs to get recognized for more than his music . He should get a award for being such a amazing young man and talent . Keep up the good work baby
