Some of these models are insanely expensive. I’m into the hobby myself and I’ve always been of the opinion that the more expensive the less fun to fly because I’m focused more on keeping it intact then having fun.
That's why I love foamies so much. Put the biggest engine the fuselage can handle into it, and just go balls out - and if it crashes, it's less than 200 dollars spent.
I learnt to fly RC planes from reading lots of articles in magazines like RC Modeler, Model Airplane News and RCM&E. That is where I got the idea of keeping trash bags in the car for accidents. Today, it seems that knowledge is lost. No one in this video had trash bags to help recover the many pieces they had to pick up. Maybe it is because all the RC magazines have disappeared! The bags don't consume any significant space in your car, but are excellent for picking up all the small pieces from a crash. The decision to repair ar rebuild is much easier if you have 100% of the planes parts. Also, this is a decision that can only be done outside of the heat of the moment. Also, it makes the retrieval of the parts easier and you are less likely to drop a servo or battery somewhere in the field. It keeps the field cleaner too as well as the trunk of your car. Also, instead of the black bags, there are nice strong translucent green ones which allow easier picking through the small parts in the bag.
I’ve always advocated RC guys taking a couple actual flying lessons. So much can be gleaned from the experience…even in 1-2 hours. But…it’s their time and money.
