love, Love, LOVE your channel. So glad I came across it. I'm a big fan of anything historical, especially homes. You're a wealth of info. Thanks!!
Awesome! I really love these vlogs about old Hollywood.
Being a Gloria Swanson fan, I really enjoy your posts featuring her. Thanks for posting!
wow love the story of Gloria you narrate really well keep these stories coming greetings from Scotland
I love Dr. B's Peppermint soap. I avoided it forever thinking it was some weird, religious hippie soap, but eventually tried it and it was awesome! Cleared up my acne, gave me happy tingles and I use it on my shih-tzu baby Lulu and she likes it too!
"I _am_ big ...it's the pictures that got small." - Norma Desmond
Silverlake is the area John Marshall High School is near..my alma mater and near my old neighborhood. Never knew Ms. Swanson’s beginnings were so close to home.
I also love seeing you & Jah interacting with each other. So precious❣️🙏🏻🐕🦺🌴
I am so thankful for your recommendation of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap. I bought it a while back, it is amazing. Not only super clean but if anyone has body temperature issues either from spine damage or menopause it helps a lot- I use it daily. It's on ebay if you trouble getting it
Im trying some! Sounds GREAT!
Gloria Swanson was the ultimate movie star back in the old days. Very interesting Lady. Loved the film "Sunset Boulevard".
"I've given my memoirs far more thought than any of my marriages. You can't divorce a book."
Exactly!
If anyone wants more information on Gloria get her book Swanson on Swanson.
I love your smile, enthusiasm, and positivity Jordan. It is absolutely infectious !!! And Jah is the cutest dog ever ! I l wish I knew what he was thinking behind brown eyes, lol(-The Who-not that I need to tell you that). So nice to watch someone who is so passionate about Old Hollywood and knows sooooo much about it ! Love you kiddo !!!🧡🙏
Dr. Bronner's is the best, especially on a hot summer morning. Gets you clean and tingly and cools you off at the same time. Great stuff on Swanson. :)
I love to revisit your old videos, Jordan. It makes me homesick for Los Angeles!
jah is awesome. but so are your videos. not a swanson fan, but sunset Boulevard , wow., it has always been in my all time top 10 list. von strohiem was amazing, and the car,,, wow.
*Fun fact- Alla Nazimova was the biggest, yes-google it, silent film actress for which Gloria Swanson played the part of her character in which the film Sunset Boulevard was based on. She was the highest paid, and (you may know this already) she herself helped Rudolph Valentino get his start by insisting that he play her lead in the first silent feature film: Camille. Another related *fun fact: Alla Nazimova purchased the Garden Of Alla in 1919. As a matter of fact, at the time the chateau marmont was built it was considered cheap bungalow apartments. So that when the people with money started moving west, to get away from the DTLA ish neighborhoods they would drive west down Sunset, and it would be nothing ... until a rich real estate developer built the private residence in 1913 for himself and then sold her the glamorous private residence on the corner or Crescent Hts. She was bi, but mostly gay and had a very passionate affair with Natasha Rambova whilst she was with Rudy and I believe before too. That is the reason Rudy Valentino was hanging out there a lot. She threw lavish parties all the time and believe it or not (I'm rarely off so you can google this, LOL) she was Nancy Reagan/ Nancy Davis's godmother. You can even see a photo of young Nancy with Alla. Alla's parties were legendary and notorious for having gay and bi actors hanging around all the time. These were the late teens and early 1920s and believe it or not at that time the roaring twenties were more lenient with the L/G community and it would have continued flourishing had it not been for the prohibition age- going into the now conservative talkie film genre and the birth of new censorship practices. Another situation where we went back in time, kind of like what we are afraid of what will happen in this day and age. Anyway Alla continued to live in her "Garden Of Alla" she named after herself with her partner/girlfriend until she died, but came into hard times and had to sell her home-which was already equipped with a few bungalows on the property already. So she sold the property around 1929ish on one condition: that she could live there until she died, and she did and it was turned into a hotel. With her still living there they constructed the hotel and when it opened most people didn't know that she did not own it anymore, they just thought she turned it into a hotel and still all sorts would come and go. Some lived for months, some just weekends etc, the list goes on of the famous artists like Scott Fitzgerald to Ava Gardner to Gary Cooper. Google the garden of Alla and you will see a list of gold that goes on forever. So anyway she lived and died there around 1946ish and settled down with her longtime gf/partner. Another fun fact* right next to the Chat Marmont was Alice B Toklas's boutique on Sunset. She's the one who ran off to Paris and lived with her longtime gf/partner Gertrude Stien, who was The Who's who of Paris in THE Twenties. Discovered and made Picasso too. Well I could go on and on. Luckily I was fortunate enough to meet a notorious character from the silent film era. An actor named Samson DiBrier who dated Roman Navarro and was in the very famous film "Salome" in 1923. He bought a house on Barton (vine & Wilouby) in 1946 after he came back from Paris and turned his house into a very famous "parlour" which hosted people from Anais Nin ( the beatniks) all the way to Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson(hippy era)He died in 1995 and I met him through Ken Anger who filmed 3 of his masterpiece films at that house. He would tell me so many stories of the most amazing people, from Mary Miles Minter to Jack Parsons. Thank god I got to meet him and Kenneth Anger who lives in Silver Lake now. I know a lot of stories especially from my neighborhood 90046.
And last fun fact* the actress you quoted talking about Gloria Swanson was Colleen Moore talking in an interview (now on RUclips) of how she was the only one you would see at the party because she was so radiant!
Thank you for this classic information! I never knew!
This is amazing...please share more!!!

It was indeed loosely based on Gloria and others, not 100% Gloria. Just like in Spinal Tap the character -Nigel(the guitarist) was loosely based on Jeff Beck and others like him. The characters had similarities to the actual person.

Sure! I have lived in West Hollywood, California my whole life and I had a neighbor named Samson De Briar who was actually in the film called Salome in which Alla Nazimova produced. He only had a small part but he was good friends with Alla. He passed away around 1995 and was good friends with a close friend of mine so I got to hear some very interesting stories. Apparently Samson used to have some very famous parties, before I was even born lol but my god I would have loved to have gone to one. LA is so much different now a days.

“About the Garden of Allah hotel. By the mid-1910s, one of the most famous and certainly the highest paid actress on the silent screen was Russian born Alla Nazimova. Metro Studios was paying her $13,000 a week-$3,000 more than Mary Pickford-along with the right to approve director, script, and leading man.”
We have been patrons for many years and I never have seen this vlog todate. Thank you Anne S. for re-posting. I am a Gloria Swanson fan, as well a fan of DWJTL. I love many of Hollywood's actors/actresses from the Golden Age. I enjoyed watching this excellent, intriguing vlog! Jordan does not miss a beat. He is a very talented young man.
Wonderful!
I hope some other surprise vlogs find your way
Thanks Jordan for the Gloria Swanson video.
😮 wow, this is six years ago! I haven’t been Watching your videos since I think 2018! It’s now February 2023!

Jordan, I want to try that peppermint soap, and I found it online in Canada too. Kind of expensive, but might do it. Thanks for doing t his vlog on Gloria Swanson. I just realized that I'd already watched the 2nd one BEFORE this one...lol
I use this soap too. Bought at a health food store but also bought it at Walmart. Walmart has it.
Thanks.Breakfast with Jordan.
OMG! That guy in the Street playing his violin and doing The Jig was hilarious! I was laughing for 5 minutes straight!😂
Great video! Boy, Gloria Swanson had gorgeous eyes!🙂
Thank you, I just love her!
Very interesting!
Jordan, I now have a different point of view of Gloria Swanson! Thank you!
Luv the soap story - 😋. I just looked, it's $ 15.00 by my house. Wow, pricey...
Throughout my lifetime it was always Liz Taylor who for Cleopatra was the 1st actress to receive $1m for a movie ... it doesn't surprise me that Gloria Swanson was actually first ... what a trailblazer!!! I love your early Hollywood vlogs ... Thank you, Smiles, Stella
@@marjoriemargel1567 You misread her comment. She didn't say that Gloria filmed Cleopatra. She said that Liz Taylor was supposed to be the first actress to receive $1m for a movie, which was Cleopatra. But that Gloria Swanson was receiving $1m for each movie that she made for United Artists in the 1920's.
Jordan, Gloria mentions in her autobiography that she and Wallace Berry shared a house on Alvarado Street, within walking distance of the Mack Sennett Studios. Do you know of such a house and where on Alvarado it might be? Big fan of yours and of Gloria's, thanks!
I like the Saint Ives apricot scrub soap. It gets you face and body very clean.
Glad her place is still standing. Too many of these Old Hollywood homes have either been bulldozed over for ugly houses, or changed so much, they are unrecognizable. They should have began protecting them in the 50s. So many are gone and it should be criminal! Lik3 Jane Mansfield's home and her pink heart shaped pool.
I just bought the soap on Amazon
Very Good!... #87 ✝ {1-9-2023}
Really cute dog.
There are a lot of interviews of Gloria Swanson on youtube. She was a guest on many of the talk shows during the 1970's.
Bronners peppermint soap is great. No problems with the prurient issues. Much better than the "medicated" talc.
My chihuahua looks like a fruit bat, a sugar glider, or a lemur.
First time I used that Bonner's soap back in 1968 my entire body broke out in hives. Make sure you are not allergic to it by putting it on a small part of your skin initially.
your puppy 😍😍😍😍
You might want to check out the haunted courthouse in Holbrook AZ. It was on Discovery or something like that. We were stranded with car trouble a couple days in Holbrook and the courthouse/museum was the only interesting thing we found.
I enjoyed it
Do you have any idea how many of the houses with the pools made(designed) by that famous actress that was a super swimmer? Is it Ella's smthg? I forget now. But it was a big thing in her times and few remain? On the tip of my tongue, darn it !
One Vlog is better than the other!!
What a beautiful woman !
Scott is a nice guy. Full House world is small world.
I am getting the soap hahahaha
Be careful w/Jah’s treats,
NO made in China...ONLY made in USA. Safety reasons.
Scott Weiner who ran into who play D.J. s boyfriend on FULL HOUSE was also the voice of ALADDIN in the DISNEY ANIMATED MOVIES. Really interesting story how Gloria Swanson acted with that Lion and him having his paws on her .I would be terrified. Good History story
Hi Jordan! Until I get closer to being "caught up" in watching your vlog, I'm going to guess that most of my comments may be moot, since you may already know or done some of the info I want to tell you. Anyway, I believe there was a replica model made of the Garden of Allah Hotel that used to be on site, and then it was bought by a private collector who doesn't have a prob showing it to people who are interested. I, for one, would love to see it, since we no longer have the original hotel/bungalows anymore. I hear that the model is very detailed, even down to electric lights and so forth!! Anyway, could you please do some research on it and maybe do a vlog on it? If you haven't already , that is....lol Thanks in advance!!
Love the History!
fyi- there's ALSO a Gloria Swanson house in Yonkers, NY...a stucco and red roof HUGE house on Bronx River Road and Colonial Parkway. Back when the Kennedy family were living in Riverdale/Bronx, NY, Joe Kennedy would "steal away" to his mistresses' house....about the early mid-1920s.
Well I just ordered The Dr Bronner Peppermint soap from Amazon. lol.
Its a wild experience
@@DazewithJordantheLion Now I'm tempted to buy the opera creams. I truly wish you would stop tempting us. ;)
I love the Old Hollywood glam outfits. I'm glad I'm a girl and can be a Barbie every day. I wish I had the dress makers and designers of the old days. Women dresses so well not so long ago. You can be sexy and sophisticated and not show your wares( like my Great Gramma would say, lol. Miss her too. She was born in 1908 and had oodles of stories and I learned a LOT. Do you have a favorite?
I love peppermint anything!
I don't think Jaw likes the flash...
Omg. Jah is too funny!!!
2210 was built in 1922
Sugar Blues
Jah is too cute!
check out the jail in the basement.
Poking the Lion to make him roar and then the lion kill somebody a week later, lol, good for the Lion! Play around with dangerous animals, you get what you deserve!
Jah is so funny
Love old noir movies 1940s👍
She looks sad. Beautiful eyes but sad. Man 17yrs old in that era to marry.
Oh wow had 2 b smethn depthy that happened. Sad.
Is this the same as Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree shampoo?
Alan Cofer no, completely different concept. you should get some a try it out. it's a one of a kind experience
Will do, Thanks guy
