One thing I found very hard to agree on in this video: I never found anything that suggests the first three digits of R35's chassis code are reference of ECU program. The theory I found much more reasonable was that they stand for Japanese Emission Standard codes (C/D/4=2005's 50%/2005's 75%/2018's 25% of low emission certification, B=gasoline, A=passenger car), I'm not saying this is undoubtly true, just way more likely to be. And since we are here, no there's no EBA according to Nissan, BUTT, there is a 4BA, this chassis code should be on the VIN plate of every GT-R from MY2020 and on.
Hi I’m looking to buy GTR r35 CBA 2009/2010 , is there anything else I should be aware of apart what you mention gearbox update software ? As heard that gearbox has got bad rep. , and also what milage they can get issues as heard after 80k miles
So, mine is at 130k miles. The only things that have come up, aside for general maintenance, is 1) the car started throwing the code (P0011, if I remember right) which means the time g chain had to be done. This was at around 97k miles and , 2) the pressure sensor on the transmission went out leaving me with odd gears only. The transmission has to be removed from the car to get at the sensors, so I elected to do a full stage 1 rebuild at SP Engineering. This happened around 120k miles. Other than that, no major issues.
The GTR price will not come down. Owners rather keep the car longer rather than rush sell because they know the car will continue to appreciate year over year. Get the CBA and DBA while you can
@@JDArcher new GTR prices goes higher and higher each year, which carries used GTR prices up as well. Doesn’t matter if Nissan doesn’t discontinue the line. Prices will continue to go up
@jerrysaddiction7636 sort of. The issues is, the more its in production, the more there are in the world. Value is based on rarity, partially. Basically the R34 would not command the prices it is right now if 100k were made instead of only 11k
I always wanted a r34 after selling my r32 and missed having that car ever since Now the r34 became out of my price and the cba r35 is looking like I shouldn’t miss an opportunity to buy one… Thanks for the review, pretty much answered all my questions about the models and what to change on a 2008 to be matched with current model with performance
Awesome. Glad I could help. However, if your dream is the R34 I would recommend maybe waiting and trying for one. Otherwise you will always see the R35 as a consolation prize and not your dream

So get CBA for cheap and evn tho trainy breaks down rebuild it woulddnt be cheaper?? And can spend some $$ to make it better??😮 im looking for GTR advise?
I don’t know if you’ll get to this since you posted over 2 years ago but what is the 2011 in your video you say it’s a CBA but on the internet it’s not clear most sites refer to it as a DBA but others just like you did call it a CBA. And I was just wondering if you also thought that would be a good choice because there is a 2011 that has a pretty good price on it nearby and I was considering it everything else just seems expensive but maybe I’m not looking in the right spots
CBA looks the best, cleanest face, not been turned into eurotrash with the extra angles and DRLs. Sure the gearbox needs a refurb at some point but it has the purest aesthetic
Another difference is the brakes on the CBA are smaller than the DBAs and EBAs from my knowledge and front bumpers are Hella expensive for these cars lol love mine tho DBA FTW
Oh wow, im surprised this video has been up this long and this is the first time that was pointed out. Yes, the CBAs do have smaller front rotors. Nice catch, thank you. As for the bumper conversion, I've found the bumpers to not be to bad, it's those damn DRLs that are stupidly over priced for just some lights.
Funny that you like the looks of the DBA. In late 2011, I could buy a 2010, 2011, or 2012 model. I liked the looks of the CBA and 7 spoke wheels much better than the DBA, so I bought the CBA, and saved $15,000 as well. Early DBAs also were having paint problems. Spent $2000 on Stage 1+ Cobb and have 50 more hp than the newest GTR. I think the CBA suspension is the best for performance, with turn in quicker than the DBA because of alignment changes. Newer EBA models have less precise road feel and steering feedback.
Personal I love the cba and dba are my favs because I grew up on them, but personally I love dba the most because it has a widebody ish look to it naturally
I still think the DBA is the best, looks good and I'm sure is the best they ever done 2013 and 2014 models. Also I can't stand the steering wheel paddles on the EBA, makes it impossible to drive on Manual.
Great video, very informative! I’ve always wanted a gtr and I’ve finally reached the point to where I can buy one so I’ve been trying to find the best year. GTR prices have finally come down (even though they’re still up from when I first looked back in 2019 lol). I’m with you on the DBA, mainly because of my budget but still! Fantastic model. Hopefully I can snag a 2014-2015 before the year is up
Black Edition: CF wing, Recaro seats, & forged BE wheels. #1 issue of all GTRs: Transmission bell housing. #1 complaint: Transmission noise/roughness. #2 complaint: Eats tires like a mofo. & rear seats are for show or very small children. Best buy today, Jun 2023, is a brand new M3 or M4 BMW. Brand new will beat the GTR for $30K less, have state of the art electronics, 8 gear transmission that rivals most DCTs & PDKs, and a bullet proof engine good for 1000hp. And because of its 8 gear transmission, 0-60 will tear your skin off your face with a very low geared 1st gear. Just with bolt ons, they are capable of being in the mid 9s !!!! Nissan and used car dealers are taking GT-R enthusiast to the cleaners. I don't care if you have the money or are financing it... IT'S a BAD PURCHASE! with pre-owned and new GTRs $30k above normal market, you're better off with a German car (BMW). What you're giving up is LOOKS, SOUND, and the option to grow to 2k hp or more. Right now I'm transitioning from an M4CxD back to a GTR. And after tasting the market for the last 6months, I cannot look at myself in the mirror and say that a 10 year old GTR with 10K miles is worth $100K. Therefore, I'm building a Frozen White M3, fully loaded, for about the same price! Full disclosure: I owned a '14 BE FBO/e85 and miss is a lot. Had to sell it because I moved to COMMMIFORNIA and could not register it unless I paid big $$$ to bring it back to stock. I paid less than $100k for it and it was well worth it. Prices now start to rival the 911 Turbo (S).
I have driven my CBA since I bought it new in 2009 and still own it at 112,000 miles. You should know that in my case even though I had the launch control update and the TSB clip service update my transmission died ANYWAY right after my warranty expired. This even though it had NEVER been launched or track driven up to that point. I also lost my AV unit and my AC controls died. The AV unit happened under warranty and the AC after warranty. There is also the Bell Housing Rattle that was not mentioned in this video. There is a VERY high chance a CBA will suffer from this unless it was fixed under warranty or done by a good mechanic afterwards. If not, it is NOT really a cheap fix. I had that one done out of warranty. As a cautionary tale, don't think you are truly safe with just the clip TSB for the transmission being done. Trust me on this. Especially if you plan on going FBO on a used CBA. I took advantage of losing my transmission for the second time ( it failed before the clips were done and afterwards) by having it rebuilt by Shep Transmissions to handle more torque along with fixing its inherent flaws. Now I have been running FBO 600whp, 600lb-ft for years with no issue. It feels fantastic and has not had any UNKNOWN CBA issues. Everything I listed above is a well known CBA issue. In hindsight, it was still the best car purchase ever.... because it was 73k brand new for me in 2009. I can sell it for close to that even now. I won't, but it is nice being wanted.
I just want to point out the transmissions on the first generation GTR do suck because it has a lot of transmission chatter the only way to fix that is to get a updated transmission bell housing from another GTR a newer one
So the CBA has no DTR, red LCD screen in dash, grey instrument panel, and start button is below the shifter? DBA has DTR, blue LCD screen in dash, CF instrument panel, and start button above the shifter?
What would I need if I wanted to make my GTR R35 800hp/1000hp what’s the best transmission and would I need to get the engine redo or it can hold 1000hp ,1200hp without doing much to it and how much horsepower can the factory transmission hold
@EVERYTHING PLAYSTATION 🎮 to be honest you could, but i wouldn't recommend it. When you're running that much HP you're putting a lot of stress on the engine. I think anything over 700hp should get an engine upgrade

@@JDArcher thank you
@@wojti95any time
The GTR price will not come down. Owners rather keep the car longer rather than rush sell because they know the car will continue to appreciate year over year. Get the CBA and DBA while you can
The prices really won't go up till Nissan finally discontinues production of the R35
@@JDArcherhave you seen the recent sales number of GTR? It’s been declining. Rarity is not a problem.
@@jerrysaddiction7636 it is if you want the car to go up in value. Rarity + desirability = higher value
I always wanted a r34 after selling my r32 and missed having that car ever since
Now the r34 became out of my price and the cba r35 is looking like I shouldn’t miss an opportunity to buy one…
Thanks for the review, pretty much answered all my questions about the models and what to change on a 2008 to be matched with current model with performance
Awesome. Glad I could help. However, if your dream is the R34 I would recommend maybe waiting and trying for one. Otherwise you will always see the R35 as a consolation prize and not your dream
@@JDArcherthats true, i still even like the looks of a r32 over a r35 but I can’t justify that they’re the same price for a cba
Thanks for making my choice even tougher 😂
R34’s are the unicorn everyone wants though but feel the r35 has the modern refinements
probably the best thing for you to do is test drive a R35. They're newer and came to the states so I'm sure you can find one on a lot. That will probably help the most. I can tell you that they are good cars. My only real complaints are they are to big and the seats feel to high @@pantsdownbert
no hate but the music does get annoying after awhile, could be turned down a little
Copy that
What about the electrical issue’s that most talk about on CBA’s, is that a myth?
I'm not aware of many electrical issues. I know the A/V unit can go bad.
Thank you for the education. The GTR is a marvel of modern engineering. I hope I get my hands on one before it’s too late.
Glad you liked it. The prices may come down a little once the car shortage ends
Really well done!!! Helped me a lot actually. Thank you!!
Awesome, glad I could help
Im new in the jdm market and love the looks of the gtr r35, what I dont understand yet is why some model prices vary so much, are those nismo, premium, black edition body kits/rims/carbon fiber trims only or the actual engine is upgraded? Can someone explain?
Except for the nismo, which got some upgraded turbos, the engine and transmission are all the all the same. The packages are mainly esthetic
@@JDArcher thank you for the quick response🙏🏼 unbelievable price tag for visual/cosmetic differences that you can buy a base model and do the body kits later on I guess. I thought there was a difference like base meredes to amg but thanks for clarifying. There is a high spec gtr r35 nismo sv 21’ on carsales here in Australia for 699k, its mindblowing
@brainiac006 that's what I'm doing. I got a black edition due to a good deal, and am doing a Nismo clone
Very good information, well done sir.
Do you know by chance if change of front bumper from CBA to EBA, will hood from CBA fit the EBA bumper?
Excellent stuff! Literally answered almost every question I had, as I looking for a R35
Glad I could help
Funny that you like the looks of the DBA. In late 2011, I could buy a 2010, 2011, or 2012 model. I liked the looks of the CBA and 7 spoke wheels much better than the DBA, so I bought the CBA, and saved $15,000 as well. Early DBAs also were having paint problems. Spent $2000 on Stage 1+ Cobb and have 50 more hp than the newest GTR. I think the CBA suspension is the best for performance, with turn in quicker than the DBA because of alignment changes. Newer EBA models have less precise road feel and steering feedback.
I had a 15 and sold it... miss it and will be buying another one soon hahahaa
There ya go. They really are a good all around car. Family car, daily driver, Gran tourer, race car
I like the OG CBA. Personally I don't like the EBA as I feel they made it look too busy. I like the DBA lightning bolt headlights though.
Which years are DBA in Canada?? And Japan??
Same i think
Personal I love the cba and dba are my favs because I grew up on them, but personally I love dba the most because it has a widebody ish look to it naturally
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm looking to buy a GTR, and this was perfect!
Awesome. Glad I could help
I still think the DBA is the best, looks good and I'm sure is the best they ever done 2013 and 2014 models. Also I can't stand the steering wheel paddles on the EBA, makes it impossible to drive on Manual.
Im also more of a fan of the dba looks
Ok lol. There is a saying where I’m from. If you don’t have what you like, you like what you have ;)
Great video, very informative! Hopefully I can snag a 2014-2015 before the year is up
Nice, glad I could help and welcome. I was lucky to get mine pre-covid
Z cars have similar nuances, if you want a 350z, 06-08 have more power and better interior, and 370z, 14 - up
By updating the transmission software…does that erase any tunes that have been done prior?
This is fantastic content man. I’ve been watching reviews for the so called eba and your video popped up as a suggestion. Gonna sub and binge 💪
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it
Black Edition: CF wing, Recaro seats, & forged BE wheels.
Ya, but then you own a BMW. As a town truck driver which Brand of car they tow the most often
My favorite is the cba i just love how basic and pedestrian it looks. I would love a silver 2011. Its the one i fell in love with as a kid
Great post
Great information! 👏🏾
Thank you
I would take DBA any day
I agree...so I did
I thought when you are asked what R35 you want, you just say Nismo...
Wasn't there some difference in brake sizes over the years?
Yes, in 2012 the rotors got a little bigger
@@JDArcher ok, thanks! I have the R34 GT-R, but my dream is to also have the R35. Don’t know every detail about them yet, but I’m trying to learn.
@Datsem That's interesting, I'm debating about switching over to the 34 GTR, but not sure I should since the 35 is a better performing car
@@JDArcher yeah, it’s certainly not a car you get because of the numbers.
Start button didn't move till the 2017 (so called EBA)
I'm from Dec 2023. R35 is still here 😂
What would I need if I wanted to make my GTR R35 800hp/1000hp what’s the best transmission and would I need to get the engine redo or it can hold 1000hp ,1200hp without doing much to it and how much horsepower can the factory transmission hold
When you get that high you should start talking to Shep transmissions and probably a full engine build
@@JDArcher so I can get 800hp with out a build engine and around 1000hp and up is would I going to need the engine build
@EVERYTHING PLAYSTATION 🎮 to be honest you could, but i wouldn't recommend it. When you're running that much HP you're putting a lot of stress on the engine. I think anything over 700hp should get an engine upgrade
@@JDArcher thanks so much so I make sure to get a Engine build anything over 700hp and a the shep transmission which i should go with 3 or 4
@@everythingplaystation41 depends on what your total power goals are and how you plan to use the car. Shep would be better able to answer that question than I would
Great overview. Thanks
Looking to buy an r35. Massive thanks for this. Insane amount of info in a short video. Well presented. Thanks brother 🇬🇧
Glad I could help and welcome to the club
Thanks, exactly what I was looking for, except for the music
Awesome
Why the music ???

Very informative. Thank you. But what it’s where it my goal is to get a 16-17 Nismo edition.
Love the 2017 Nismo
I notice your interior door panel is all peeling near the window. Is that common? Never seen that before
Peeling? I don't see that?

When did the inner section of the engine cover change from black colour to red? Was that from CBA to DBA?
