They were 14 & 15 when they wrote & recorded this track...
And Daniel Johns turned out to be a musical genius...they evolved & grew with every subsequent album
True story about Daniel....totally underrated!!
🇦🇺❤️
Dan was 12 when he wrote this song and 12 and 13 while writing the rest of the album. Btw Australian version meant the video cos the video for the U S was different.
Already playing a song from their second album at 15, 15 and 16. .
ruclips.net/video/iTMcH1gbTYU/видео.html
Actually wrote the Frogstomp album when they were 12-13. Won a radio contest using Tomorrow when they were 15. Studio let them record the album, Sony picked them up and sent them on a quick world tour coming home only to attend High School (although they missed a lot) before hitting the road more.
Im 27 . and I can't imagine bein that intillegent and wise too even think of writing Lyrics like that when I was 15 😂😂😂😂😭
The amazing thing about Silverchair is they were so young. They were only just into their teens when they had their first hit!
I feel sorry for you
@@mreuphoria2You weird
The whole Frogstomp album was 🔥.
Just listened to it again (and I do it every few months) - it's so good. My younger cousin came back from Aus and introduced it to me when he was just a kid and I loved it.
This was only the very beginning. They grew so much from here. Understandable, Daniel wrote this at 13, and they recorded it at 14. If someone can do such a solid song at 13, just imagine where he ends up as an adult?
Thankfully, we got to see that evolution, and it was amazing. Everything.
they were 14 here. they were just babies! they were huge in the 90s!! another great silverchair song to react to is “freak” live at luna park 1997
They were so young!
Phenomenally talented!!!
That drummer beatin it up like it stole his wallet!🔥
Thanks to Molly Meldrum for making sure this band got a start in the industry, especially when they were so young.
These were my guys in the 90's. I was in my 20's and they in their teens. It's a BANGER!
This is a fantastic album. It’s mind blowing they were kids when this came out.
They won a band contest in Australia and got to record their song and video as the prize, the song exploded in Australia and went to number 1 for weeks (this is the version you watched), then it got picked up in the states and gained momentum so they re recorded it and the songs for frogstomp and filmed a ‘better’ international video for it as well. Their first album sold millions worldwide from there. Not bad for teenagers..
It's crazy how young these guys were when they released this. I was same age at the time and it helped me pick up a guitar. Thanks, Teez.
American kids in the 90s had Hanson we got this in Australia
Youthful exuberance + talent + alignment with alt-rock sound vibes = Silverchair. Never heard them before, but like them for their dedication to musical bonafides. Good choice 👍
Honestly, there’s just so much to explore! Daniel wrote this when he was 13. Just imagine what he could do as an adult, if he wrote this as a kid? Thankfully, we got to see that evolution. And it was everything anyone could ever expect. He grew up into a true musical genius. I recommend Israel’s Son off Frogstomp (1st album, that this song was from), Cemetery and Freak off Freak Show (2nd album) Emotion Sickness, and Ana’s Song (Open Fire), that he wrote at 18, off their third album, then After All these Tears and Across the Night off Diorama, then These Thieving Birds off Young Modern.
That will give you the picture of Daniel’s evolution. It’s sad that Silverchair is so unknown and underrated. The talent was off the charts. And especially Daniel Johns- he was the musical driving force and songwriter.
I forgot what babies they were when they did this! 💕
Yeah yeah this is slightly different to the album version and the American video release, but they're so damn tiny in this video I reckon it just showcases them at the beginning a little better. The prime difference between the two is a little extra production and aggression in the latter album recording. This is the version that won them a national radio competition and catapulted them to local stardom. The prize was having their song professionally mastered and filmed (this clip). A year later it was re-recorded for the american market for... reasons.
Wow... I bought this CD when it was new, and the song's held up surprisingly well after all these years... hmmm, I wonder if I still have that cd somewhere...
Undoubtedly one of the best bands Australia ever gave birth to. Songs like this at the age of 15/16 years old. Playing in pubs & clubs, with their parents as chaperones, was just phenomonal in those days. The Album that this came from, "Frogstomp", has been re released, recently, as a double CD with many extra recordings & live performances added. A must for any Silverchair fan. Do yourself a favour & give it a listen, Teez. You won't regret it.
👏 WOW ! 🔥 Have to say the Tunes have been a total blast here all of em !! Thanks Teez 💗😊 Great picks here !
Just an amazing band ❤❤❤
I remember sitting in a work truck driving to a site while my supervisor played triple J in the truck and hearing songs like this. I also remember the song Coming Around by Max Sharam and Everything Zen by Bush.
Thank you, man, I was singing this in the shower the other day and for the life of me I couldn’t remember the name of the song
I loved Silverchair! I had to buy the frogstomp cd 3 times cos ppl stole the first 2 lol
Silverchair is from Newcastle Australia
I was always blown away that they were all like 16 when they blew up. They are all legitimately kids when they made this.
They got their band name from “The Chronicles of Narnia” books. One of the books in the series is called “The Silver Chair”
Nah they didn't. Watch this video Daniel explains how they got their name. It's very cute :)
ruclips.net/video/7XW0FwZaOrk/видео.html
@@karinaleung1651 No, thats the story they made up for interviews. Theyve admitted to it. The original comment is right. Its from the book, it was actually on a list of new names that the record company asked them to choose from, and silverchair was inspired by the book.
Literally my most favourite band of all time and even tho Daniel left still love him
They were really something for being middle schoolers when their first album came out. The next couple were, uh, uneven to be polite about it, but their last two records before they went on indefinite hiatus (Diorama and Young Modern) were great and covered a remarkably wide range of styles.
As a massive nirvana fan all I can say is early Silverchair embodied what Kurt Cobain wanted to. But I have a bias as I am Australian. Mind you these guys are 16/17
I loved this album in middle school.
One of Silverchairs idols was Nirvana, hence the grunge sound and look. The Aussie video is better than the US video that has a pig faced man for no reason.
The Aussie video makes you get involved in what they are saying not just video effects.
I agree the aussie vid is better but the pig man is there to symbolise the greed of the 1% i think thats why hes spitting out coins
But the american version is weird definetly
The lead singer was 16 when he first sang this
Silver chair is Australia's nirvana
Australian Version. It's a little different from what was released here in America.
This is the version that shot them to local stardom. They initially sent it in as a demo to a radio competition. They won, the prize was to have the song professionally mastered and filmed (this version). It spent 6 weeks at #1 in AU. A year later it was re-recorded for the american market.
Australian Version is from there Tomorrow EP
Straight out of Newie.
Best 3piece going ...
These kids were on fire.....
Watch the live version the drummer kills it
These were just children…. Amazing stuff
It's a banger! Peace.
Solid stuff, kiddo.
Fuckin' Nirvana in pyjamas were the only band Courtney Love liked enough to endorse Daniel as being OK enough to not sue and actually said he could play Kurt if they had done a bio pic before Harvey Weinstein
We used to call them Nirvana in pyjamas back in the day
Check out Israel’s Son from the same album (Frogstomp). Killer song!
these guys were like 16 when they wrote this.
The difference is in the video clip
Check out their song Miss you Love
❤️💛🧡
Dude, you have to react to "Ana's Song" if your doing Silverchair, you wont regret
More Aussie and New Zealand music please!
They were barely 14 years old at the time of this recording.
I remember when this broke on triplej, high school girlfriend bought me the single
What’s Australian about it? They are Australian & they wrote all their own music. Check out Pure Massacre, Israel Son…actual, the whole album.
the speed is kinda fast though.
It was a little different 👍
I like the version released in the US more. The US version is more aggressive. More my taste. Still good though.
Damn, they were like 13 or 14 when they wrote this!
Didn't know they was Australian
School kids won then became silver chair
The song isn't an australian version... it's because Silverchair is an australian band.
What about Spawn again ??
Madmen also
Listen to your own
Think I like this version better. Less layered guitars
the album version only has 2 guitar tracks, just like any band with 1 guitarist will do 2 tracks so it sounds fuller.
Did you alter the singer's voice for copyright reasons?
The audio on this sounds like the demo recording, not what came out on Frogstomp. A great song and band no matter what, but this sound quality is not as good, IMHO.
agreed
This isn't the demo, this is the prize from sending in their demo to win a competition. What you're hearing isn't lack of audio quality, it's lack of the extra production that was added to make it suitable for the american market. This version spent six weeks at #1 in Australia.
@@kjdavis1 Fair enough. Thanks. Cool historical context. For the record, I’m not saying it sucks; I’m saying I like the studio product better in this case. :) But that has nothing to do with me being American or my broader audio palate. I love a lot of music cuts/styles of the more “raw” variety.
@@kellencriswell2500 To be fair, the prime reason to choose this video was how damn little they are in it. They looked considerably older a year later!
@@kjdavis1 Yeah, I was blown away seeing how you g they looked even as a long-time fan. I knew they were young teens when they started, but they look like babies in this particular video. It’s special for that aspect for sure.
No offense to the group but now I have a better idea of why they got some crap about jumping on the nirvana bandwagon. Tell me this video doesn't remind you of SLTS. The video not the song.
It’s probably because they won a radio competition, as part of the prize, Triple J recorded the song and ABC filmed this video. It was also likely the reason why they wanted to re-record a new video for American.
@@angiemc8593 I'm not a film critic but the similarities are blinding. I'm guessing it was some record company executive that thought it would be a good idea.
@@maine420grow8 yeah don’t think they would of had much control, especially being only 14. I would say they wanted a new video because of the reason you are saying too. They probably weren’t happy with the video either.
@@maine420grow8 There was an interview with DJ where he said they basically wanted it to be like that ( I cringe when I see the try hard eddie vedder looks). In saying that, they were young and didn't know any better. They quickly snapped out of it.
At the time they were copying the grunge style.
