Welcome to my (first ever) sew along/tutorial on Very Easy Vogue 9311! There are a TON of chapters and two parts to the video. If you want to go straight to sewing the dress, start with part 2. I included all kinds of tips throughout if this is your first time sewing or you are newer in your journey and I hope you find them helpful! If you sew this dress, I would LOVE to hear how it turns out! Happy happy sewing!
Great video! You’re a natural! You’ve given a lot of good tips for beginners. I’ve been sewing for a long time but I’m always willing to learn new techniques from novice to expert. Your videos are calm and enjoyable.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment! I could not agree more, always fun to keep learning and pick up tips from different people no matter the sewing experience! Happy happy sewing and creating! 🪡🧵😊
I love your dress! I made this same pattern a few months ago with a cotton printed bed sheet. I use it for throwing on after having a shower and just for in house use. My sleeves were too long as well. When I saw your sew along post, I pulled out my pattern to make something in cotton for Halloween. I was hoping you would show how to French seam the sleeves. I’m still on a steep learning curve for sewing. I’d send you my garment pic but utube does not allow for pics that I know of. Thanks for the video. I thoroughly enjoyed it and your fearless attitude to venture into the unknown - you’re very inspiring. I want to hunt for a similar velour to yours ❤
Sounds like a great wear around the house dress-great idea! To French seam armhole-I would refer to the part in the video where I attached the top of the dress to the bottom of the dress to French seam it and do the same with your sleeve arm hole opening. And for the stitch line up and down the sleeve arm, do it the same way that you do the skirt front and back! It can be tricky French seaming the armhole, but it can absolutely be done! Happy sewing!! 🪡🧵😊
Thank you for this video. I have this pattern. I loved your tips. Can't wait to see it. Loved both versions you did. I loved seeing you on the floor cutting out, just like most of us do! Keeping it real❣️
😅 thank you! And yes to keeping it real! Until we all get our state of the art sewing rooms, we have to make do with what we have! 😉Happy happy sewing and creating!🪡🧵
Thank you! I have done that before but now I just go for it hehe unless it’s very very special fabric! Love to hear everyone’s style when it comes to sewing!
Good evening, I just happened to find your channel. 🤗This is a very nice, easy to understand tutorial for beginner sewers. Over the years, I have become a more intermediate sewer. I have loved sewing ever since I was a kid. My grandmother taught me how to embroider and I have been hooked on sewing ever since I have been sewing quilts for many years and am trying to become more efficient at sewing clothes. The only sewing lessons, I have are from years ago in home economics so Utube and Pinterest tutorials/posts have really helped me to learn more. Since I have very little experience working with knit/stretchy fabric, do you usually sew with a stretch stitch on your machine or just a straight stitch and what about type of thread do you suggest? Please advise and am looking forward to your future sewing tutorials. 💕💕
Hi and welcome! 🌷Thank you so so much for being here! I love to hear that you have always had a passion and love for sewing, embroidering, and quilting. So many fun ways to be creative! I personally love the Sulky 850yd 40wt Rayon Thread that you can find at most Joann’s. A lot of times they have a buy three get three free sale and that’s when I try to pick it up, but it really sews up so beautifully. And typically for stretch fabrics, I do sew with a straight stitch (and sometimes a jersey ball point needle) but adjust my tension slightly so it’s not as tight. However-I would love to hear from others if they happen to come across this comment though because that is such an excellent question! Hope this helps and happy, happy sewing and creating beautiful clothing!🪡🧵
Super cute & super helpful instructions. Thank you. Do you think a person could leave the tie off and have it still hang correctly? I don’t love a back tie on me. Glad you are recovering well.
Glad you found it helpful! And absolutely, I think it’s possible to leave off the back tie. You may have to take the dress in at the waist sides an inch or two because without the tie to help cinch the dress in, it might be a smidge too big. So just something to keep in mind but yes, leave it off if you do not like the back tie! 😊🪡🧵
OMG love the material you used. Velvet?! Dress turned out great!! I'm new at sewing, but am a bigger women. No patterns for my busy. Lol. In real life is but 18\20 for tips but it's different in sewing. Any idea on how to ADD on patterns?! Where did I get material from n what's the colour called. Love love
Thank you! I believe it’s a stretchy crushed knit velvet/velour and it’s originally from Joann fabrics. It’s tricky in the beginning-figuring out what pattern size works on your body. Measure your body first, then measure the pattern pieces to see which pattern is the closest fit! And always always look at the finished garment measurements on the back of the pattern packet. I’ll keep in mind your question of how to add to a pattern to maybe show in a future video! Happy sewing!🪡🧵😊
Great tips and video. I noticed you did not pay attention to the grain line cutting out that first piece. You measure the grain line that is on your pattern pieces against your straight of grain on the fabric which is the selvage. Your dress will hang better.
Thank you! So much that could be discussed when it comes to grainline. 😃 If anyone else wants to learn more, I love this video and she has a whole series dedicated to sewing terminology: ruclips.net/video/xmkkfsYfYko/видео.htmlsi=JpvSZmPhToAHh1V_ happy sewing! 🧵🪡🌷
😅😅 good to know!! Sometimes I think I’m just being extra with my French seams and lack of serger-so it’s helpful to know that French seams even with a serger still come out on top!😃 happy sewing!

Beautiful make! I think you should leave the v neck as it is!
Thank you! I am leaning in that direction! Happy sewing and creating! 🪡🧵😊

Congrats on your first ever sew along video. I always sew test garment before I sew my real fabric. I do not like surprises.
Thank you! I have done that before but now I just go for it hehe unless it’s very very special fabric! Love to hear everyone’s style when it comes to sewing!
For shortening the skirt there should be a line on the pattern piece where you can slash it to shorten so you can preserve the hem curve.
⬆️This!! There is definitely one on this pattern!
Thank you!❤❤
You are so welcome! 🧵🪡🌷
Thank you for sharing! I keep looking for patterns to make from my stash. Think this may be a good option. You helped!😀
Oh, I love when things like that work out! It really is such a cute very easy to modify dress pattern! Happy creating and sewing!🪡🧵😊
That was fun! I might have to give that pattern a look😉❤️
Sew glad you enjoyed 😅 and yes!! I’d love to hear how it goes if you end up sewing it up! 🧵🪡😃

Girl even with a serger I still French seam a lot of my makes! It will always be superior in my opinion 🩷
