Literally this was the ONLY ONLY ONLY way I was every going to figure out which springs go to each valve. Bro, seriously. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
My tip is every time you find yourself going backwards. Go have a coffee. Give yourself time to think. Many times this has saved me from going backwards or having to go backwards twice. Also gives you a chance to check twice. My last valve body rebuild was an E4OD. A bearing exploded and the filter ripped bits of crap were everywhere. Took 4 assemblies to finally find all the bits of brass. Been forcibly retired from rebuilding since.
Solder Joe that's basically what I did. Just called it quits for the night. Watched the reassembily vs disassembly footage to try and find my mistake. Took about 3 runs through it all to figure it out.
This video was an incredible help while I was installing a sonnax valve sleeve overlap kit and the tcc damper valve sleeve kit/solenoid. Thank you for your obvious dedication in assisting others. I found it later into my rebuild process, now I wish I had gone deeper and stripped it more! but since I'm only at 95k miles it's probably not as big of deal.
I was having an issue with the 722.6 trans in my 2006 E320 CDI w/200k. Slight judder/oscillation under hard acceleration or climbing hills... RPMs had a slight fluctuation at cruising speeds...jerky 1-2 shifts when cold...with the occasional shudder slowing to a stop. Purchased a new TCC/PWM solenoid on ebay for less than $30 and had it installed at a local transmission shop and now my transmission almost shifts like new.
Hi, did replacing the TCC/PWM solenoid fix it permanently? I am having this exact same issue now and deciding whether to do the Sonnax Damper kit as well or just the solenoid. Thanks

I'm getting ready to replace a conductor plate on my NAG1(W5A580), because of a seized bolt in the adapter plug (which is weeping ATF). I believe this valve body (722.6) in the video is the same one found in the NAG1. Also, I plan to have on hand the Sonnax 3-piece overlap and TCC Damper kit + Transgo Shift Kit (SK722.6-A).

The Transgo kit includes a Pressure Regular Valve, Lube Regulator Valve Assembly, and an upgraded 2-3 spring, but I was unsure how much of an improvement it provides and whether it gets along well with the Sonnax kits. Two more questions: Is it possible to clean the valve body without removing ALL of the internals? Also, do you recommend changing the TCC solenoid ($35) while I'm already in there for good measure?

I'm having trouble inserting the TCC valve into the valve body of my '03 C240. Pushed as hard as I could by hand and it just wouldn't budge. Sized the o-rings as instructed. Is there a cut off date on the Sonnax upgrade, or should I take a hammer to it, ha?

Torque converter transmissions seem to be more complex than even the engine itself. After seeing some of these internals videos I'm not surprised why standard transmissions are more reliable -- they only have 1/10th of the part count!
The design of these valve bodies remind me of old, hand-drawn circuit board artwork. I guess the valve body actually IS a fairly complex circuit, just a hydraulic circuit, rather than an electric one. Which would make this MB valve body a two-layer PCB.
Hello, I have ML270 cdi w163113 year 2003. For a month I have a gearbox problem. I noticed that there is a mixture of transmission oil with water giving a coffee with milk color (brown not whitish). I changed the radiator including the coolant and I proceeded to drain the gearbox. Unfortunately, after normal diagnosis, the vehicle does not depace 90 km/h and the speed remains in 3rd. Cordially.
Any videos about the clutch packs and transmissions bands? We see lots of friction material in the pan when doing a service, but almost no videos on changing them out.
no bands in the 722.6, clutch packs are very robust and you will notice delayed engagement and slippage when they're worn out. i have a couple videos showing a 722.6 rebuild, a little sloppy because of the circumstances, but still shows what needs to be done. compressing the piston springs requires special tools, but you can make them yourself as i did.
I changed the electrinoque board. There was a lot of dirt under the electronic board. I cleaned the selenoids but I did not dismantle the hydraulic block (spring, balls etc). I have very rare transmission collisions and also between the 2nd and the 3rd the transmission takes time to make the change. Should I have cleaned the block by completely disassembling it like this video ?
I don't think a deep clean will help you with the rough shifting. It seems like you would benefit from installing the Sonnax Master Overlap Sleeve Kit (Part # 68942-05K) and Sonnax TCC Valve Damper Kit (Part # 68942-23K). There is also a Transgo Shift Kit (Part # SK722.6-A). All of these parts require no reaming/modification to the valve body, and many people report it completely changes the way the car feels when shifting (in a good way - no more rough TCC lockup or jerky/flaring shifts).
Great video!! I just had my transmission rebuilt on my 2008 C300 that only has 32,000 miles on the dash. My wife ran through a high body of water last week which was about 2 miles from our house where she was able to drive home. The next day the car wasn’t shifting normally. Had car tow to shop, they rebuilt the transmission but saying it is flaring. Still no codes are being read. What do you think can be the problem?

Old video but i thought i'd ask/put it out there. I got a 2006 Dodge Charger (NAG1) pretty sure it's the same thing besides maybe a few differences, anyways. 220k kms i got it at 175k (120k miles lets say) The fluid was nice pink last time i check it, which it's Mopar Atf +4 so maybe a little light but it seemed fine and smelled fine. Shifts fine all day long, for the most part. Autostick works awesome, never fails me the only ''issue'' i guess is that if im in 3rd gear, smash the gas (well smash the gas downshifts me into 3rd) and then it trys to get into 4th (WOT) it just will sit there, not going any faster at redline (6000 ish) and just wa wa wa wa then if i let off just a bit like to 70% throttle it shifts fine. Was wondering if anyone had anything they could see being the issue, i worked at a trans shop for a bit but it was just hauling them mostly and pan gasket/fluid changes. (other work too but that was part of it) I've never actually checked it (the level) so maybe over time it's just a little low? Doesn't seem to be any leaks in there, maybe a rear main/torque seal hard to tell but very minor leak coming out of the bellhousing. I'm getting one of those sticks with 10mm markings and i'll check it when it's hot and see what it reads, in know you're meant to use a scan tool...but yeah. Any help would be awesome thanks. Not a big issue just a slight concern.

started out ok removed upper from lower 722.6 valve body on my 2006 e320 cdi and notice one small round rubber with cross open in middle on my work bench. have no idea which hole it fell out of. might have been stuck on inner plate that is between upper/lower body. any help?

Great video! It's helping me finish my NAG1 VB upgrade. Quick question, did you have to chamfer the bore edge on your VB prior to installing the TCC damper valve?Sonnax instructions...NOTE: Prior to installing O-ringed sleeve into the bore, chamfer the bore edge with adeburring tool. This will prevent the O-rings from shearing during assembly.
@@350Zquicksilver I replaced all solenoid O-Rings, and I did not chamfer the overlap sleeve bores, I just hit them real quick with a knife to make sure there was no burrs and to knock down the sharp edge just a bit.

My t20's were awful tight, too. I used a t20 bit in my 1/4" nut driver to hold the bit very perpendicular to the plate edge and hold the bit securely in the head of the screw, and then used a 1/4" 6pt box end wrench on the t20 bit's hex shank to do the actual twisting. It worked slick.
@@freshwhipss33 WD40 or any brake cleaner will do the trick as long you don't have any plastic/rubber left on the body. You have only 2filters for 2 valves.
Very nice video! I'm going to change the TCC damper valve sleeve soon. For this purpose the valve body should be split into two pieces. Is is possible to split the valve body without removing all components? Is it worth to take all steel balls and clean everything or just to reinstall the dapper valve? Best Regards
If you've got to tear the valve body down Into it's 2 half's, you HAVE to remove all the little check balls and filters. There's no other way. So you're going to be doing exactly as I did.

My dad has the same om642 engine and is complaining about occasional exhaust smell in cabinet. He thinks it's coming from under hood and drifting in cabin when at stop lights etc. Any weak points that I can check for exhaust leaks. Its not noisy and the exhaust system under car is in good shape. thanks
Donald Holder Exhaust manifolds. Had the same issue on my E320 bluetec. The one of the exhaust manifolds had cracked open in one of the flexible sections leading into the turbo.
No need for the blue valves in a CDi. Even the standard E55 came with brown or gray valves. Only the SLR had blue valves stock and possibly the SL55 black series.
I have a slight pulse or bounce in my rpms between 1000-1200rpm but only under a light load. ATF level is fine. Any ideas? Also what is the best way To support you ?$$
So a bit of a surging in RPM's under light acceleration? Can you feel it in the car too, or is it only visible on the tach? It might be the transmission slipping, or it could be an engine issue. I'm not really sure without further information. As for support, no need for monetary support, just views! MBDieselFreak yes, under light acceleration only and I can feel it, but it’s not super noticeable. The “problem” goes away completely, once the car has been at OT for 30 mins. So basically it only happens when the car isn’t fully warmed up. my 2nd gear does make a slight winding sound when decelerating , probably unrelated but it might be related to my 2nd gear.

on the conductor plate? it is essentially a plug that prevents oil from getting into the upper gear box if the transmission is overfilled. it serves no electrical purpose, its essentially mechanical overfilling protection.
@@minnus222 virtually impossible without custom machined parts. There is not a manual transmission in the world that will bolt up the OM648. You'd have to have a custom bell housing made

im at 100k and I was glad to go all the way - the fluid was BLACK - and went through cans of chlorinated brake cleaner

Is there a particular reason you used chlorinated brake fluid? Is it bad if I use non-chlorinated?
I can't find where a little screen u talked about goes? I found it, when I removed, but cant find where it goes for reassembly..

Take it appart. No other option. CAUTION is not a easy job puting it back on.

Great video! It's helping me finish my NAG1 VB upgrade. Quick question, did you have to chamfer the bore edge on your VB prior to installing the TCC damper valve?Sonnax instructions...NOTE: Prior to installing O-ringed sleeve into the bore, chamfer the bore edge with adeburring tool. This will prevent the O-rings from shearing during assembly.
I used a snap blade razor and a file to chamfer the edge. Just needs a LITTLE chamfer, just enough to help the o-rings compress in.
@@MBDieselFreak Should have asked, the 3 sonnax overlap sleeves, chamfer those bore edges too? And you reused all the solenoid O-rings?
@@350Zquicksilver I replaced all solenoid O-Rings, and I did not chamfer the overlap sleeve bores, I just hit them real quick with a knife to make sure there was no burrs and to knock down the sharp edge just a bit.

I have a 2006 Mercedes C55 (400 HP/TQ) w/ 85,000 miles that I just got and am going to do a fluid change, but I am on the fence about going any further. Opinions?

So i went ahead remove my nag1 valve body and the side cover t20 torque was so hard to remove. Broke too..
My t20's were awful tight, too. I used a t20 bit in my 1/4" nut driver to hold the bit very perpendicular to the plate edge and hold the bit securely in the head of the screw, and then used a 1/4" 6pt box end wrench on the t20 bit's hex shank to do the actual twisting. It worked slick.
question im working on my 2002 cl55 mag doing the same job, is there 5 filters? for the solenoids??

also I can only find non chlorinated brake cleaner is that a problem if I use that?
@@freshwhipss33 WD40 or any brake cleaner will do the trick as long you don't have any plastic/rubber left on the body.
You have only 2filters for 2 valves.

I'm going to change the TCC damper valve sleeve soon. For this purpose the valve body should be split into two pieces. Is is possible to split the valve body without removing all components? Is it worth to take all steel balls and clean everything or just to reinstall the dapper valve?

If you've got to tear the valve body down Into it's 2 half's, you HAVE to remove all the little check balls and filters. There's no other way. So you're going to be doing exactly as I did.

Why is there a 3 to 4 second delay before entering gear, after changing the body valve, selenoils, filter, shifter, etc.?
Did you rebuild the valve body or swap it out?
My dad has the same om642 engine and is complaining about occasional exhaust smell in cabinet. He thinks it's coming from under hood and drifting in cabin when at stop lights etc. Any weak points that I can check for exhaust leaks. Its not noisy and the exhaust system under car is in good shape. thanks
Donald Holder Exhaust manifolds. Had the same issue on my E320 bluetec. The one of the exhaust manifolds had cracked open in one of the flexible sections leading into the turbo.

So no switch to the blue top solenoids? Is that just an E55 thing, and we're staying with the regular ones on the CDIs?
No need for the blue valves in a CDi. Even the standard E55 came with brown or gray valves. Only the SLR had blue valves stock and possibly the SL55 black series.
Moreover you need the correct transmission computer to make use of the blue valves correctly

Is using regular brake cleaner okay? I can't seem to find chlorinated versions in Europe.
I used unscented mineral spirits. Worked excellent.

I have a slight pulse or bounce in my rpms between 1000-1200rpm but only under a light load. ATF level is fine. Any ideas? Also what is the best way To support you ?$$

So a bit of a surging in RPM's under light acceleration? Can you feel it in the car too, or is it only visible on the tach?
It might be the transmission slipping, or it could be an engine issue. I'm not really sure without further information.

MBDieselFreak yes, under light acceleration only and I can feel it, but it’s not super noticeable. The “problem” goes away completely, once the car has been at OT for 30 mins. So basically it only happens when the car isn’t fully warmed up. my 2nd gear does make a slight winding sound when decelerating , probably unrelated but it might be related to my 2nd gear.
Man are there any specific signs of bad solenoids,bad sleeves bad/weak springs in these valve bodies ?!

Car Manager Zone Car Manager Zone I didn't clean the valves, so the residual oil was enough to keep it lubed for reinstall.

Will someone please tell me that what is the function of "OIL FLOATS" ?
on the conductor plate? it is essentially a plug that prevents oil from getting into the upper gear box if the transmission is overfilled. it serves no electrical purpose, its essentially mechanical overfilling protection.

@@minnus222 virtually impossible without custom machined parts. There is not a manual transmission in the world that will bolt up the OM648. You'd have to have a custom bell housing made
