  • After the Fire - Here is a short clip of us attending a moor fire up at The Lews Castle Grounds on the Island of Lewis, in July 2014. This was a 4 pump shout with a smaller support vehicle. Photos of the fire are taken from The Hebrides News website (as we were quite busy at the time!!) and the photos of us damping down are taken by Donald Hodgson our resident FF snapper, whose photos are included in most of my other videos.

Iain Noble Hi Iain, thanks for your comment. Great to hear from guys at other Stations, especially from areas outside the old HIFRS area. We are a 1 pump station with two other single pump stations on Harris. The Isle of Lewis, which we are connected to has a two pump station in Stornoway and another 5 single pump stations in the surrounding rural areas. So, for now, we have fairly decent fire cover for our islands. We are a pretty quiet Station with about 30 odd shouts a year but they are a bit like buses, nothing for ages then the pager goes daft!! We are in the process of getting a new training centre for our island at Stornoway airport, with facilities for FBT and BA courses, which will save us going to the mainland which is all good apart from we will miss our annual trips for a Big Mac and a visit to M&S, Next etc, LOL nice to speak to you, Cammy :)

Cammy Morrison hi cammy how are you guys doing? Was listening to your pager ,different to our one, same pager I think but ours has 2 tones for call?think the same as the Essex one? We have had a few calls that have been early morning one's 😀, pain in the bum 😀think we are up to about 55 shouts so far for year, seems a lot quiter than last year at this time? Tuesday nite is our drill nite which is a 3 hr shift, and we do all weekly checks out with that which is 4 hrs for each pump, guys do that on a rota system, between drill nights? What's your training night involve?

Hi Phil, the song is called "days like this" I was looking for the Van Morrison version when I came across this other cover version from a band called "The Belfast Cowboys" who did the song justice. I thought the song just summed up the day. Not the most rewarding shout but suppose, as you prob know, sometimes you just have to get it done.. Cheers man :)

what are the red square things hanging from the tunics at the back?

    • @CammyMorrison

Hi James, the red tags hanging out from behind the tunics tell us that the inner lining of the jacket has been removed. This makes it more comfortable to wear on hot days like this out at moor fires, providing it is safe to do so.
