- Apologies to the users who made comments on my previous version of this video, I noticed some small errors and I wanted to share a 4K definitive version with these errors fixed. I will leave the original as unlisted shortly.

Finally I got around to finishing a semi-long video that isn't an animation test! Who'd have thought it?
I had an idea pop into my head about what the last days of Longfellow would look like and tried to create a short story around this. Doom and Gloom come naturally to me so I went with the idea that after spending so long in radiated fog, he would slowly start succoming to ghoulism and reflect on his relationships.
The film includes motion capture, with Mixamo, Kinect and LEAP. As well as a mix of animated cameras and XBOX controller freecams.
I'm sure there are things that could be better and things I have missed but I hope you enjoy! My next video will be a space adventure that revolves around retrieving the G.E.C.K from Space to save, and reboot the world.

I foresaw this after finishing Far Harbor and brought him back to my brightly lit settlement of Sanctuary Hills so he could party with Nate and the gang. :D
He gets bored and I'm not sure if taking him back out into the wastes is a good idea, but at least the garden, gym, donut shop, pizza arcade, and Christmas themed houses should keep him entertained.
Imagine if fallout 4 had this darker tone
I think the Bethesda should make game in this tone instead of some shooting
I'd definitely trade the settlement building and the stupid legendary system for this.

The combination of lines from Whitman and Masefield is beautiful. This video made me remember my first time playing Far Harbour, better days, thanks for the nostalgia.

Whenever I find myself rewatching the old Pandamic FO4 machinimas I always have to stop by here. Longfellow is such a great companion to have with you while wandering the fog of Far Harbor. Sure Nick gets like 3 lines of dialogue with Dima, but Longfellow just feels so much more fleshed out as a companion in that region.

Damn, just finished Far Harbor today. And I saw this. This really made me teared up. This is just beautiful. Like beautiful sadness.
Seeing Longfellow's backstory made me realize that he's literally what could have happened to the Soul Survivor if he lets the tragedies of his life drag him/her down any lower. And both learn to heal each other their own ways.
Dude, that was amazing and congratulations. This is totally gonna become lore in the fall out book that I am writing based off of the events of fallout three and four I think that this is a good way to tie an and out Longfellow.
Nate's pleas are more sad when they're for Longfellow then they ever were for nora

You absolutely can and you will be! I only opened my first animation software roughly a year ago. I use 3dsmax mainly to control the camera and animate the human and objects, the in game items you see are sometimes manipulated in a program called nifskope and the creation kit which is Bethesda's own program used to make Fallout 4.
I will add a link to this comment in a bit that is a really good tutorial that shows exactly what I do and how it's done. It's made by an excellent fallout filmmaker.

@@krashface4870 Haha be prepared for a long but fun ride. If it's any consolation, my first animation was 14fps and just a slow walk from the game. You can use most animations from the game btw so you generally skip animating from scratch!

Longfellow didn’t have to kill himself even if he turned into a ghoul . He could have lived in goodNeighbor and meet Hancock and get a drink 🥃 at the thirdrail .

God dam this is beautiful, haunting and yet very fitting for old longfellow. When the sole survivor meets longfellow he is a broken man, nothing to live for outside of the contents of a bottle and old memories to haunt him.
Throughout his affinity questline we help him come to terms with his demons, mentally and possibly even physically if the devils of atom are destroyed. We help him put down the fog crawler that he had been hunting for years and lay to rest his last big accomplishment.
I can really see this being the canon ending for the gruff but kind old man, he is an old man living in very rough conditions after all. The part that hits the most is how he refers to the player as a son/daughter figure to pass on his story.
If it weren't for Fallout games having multiple choices, I wish we'd know more about what happened to companions after game events. All I know is that Ian in Fallout 1 got killed by a super mutant using a flamethrower and there was Marcus and Jacobstown in New Vegas.
Here is the thing. Fallout 4 Far Harbor is my favorite piece of fallout in all Fallout games including the RTS ones which I know extensively of due to Oxhorn. I like all the games lore for the most part outside of some small things in each game. (Not counting 76 here)
But Far harbor is one of my favorite stories in all media and I wish. With all my Heart that Far harbor had been made as a stand alone fallout game so as to expand the story the world a bit, and the length of the game.
I've written much in the world of Warcraft, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and a couple others less so. But Far Harbor is my favorite. And I have no doubt that while I may never be able to make machinima that people out there would enjoy my stories. Some people.
In the mean time though this kind of work here deserves praise, recognition, hell even money. This is awesome. So freaking good and I cant imagine how long it took to make it.

If you've never seen that movie, I would encourage you to do so. It's a great film, and I do not think you will be disappointed.

You know this brings up an interesting companion quest line concept.
Having a companion whos changing into a ghoul... Where your interactions with them, determines if they go: Faral, Kill Themselves, or accept their Ghoulification.
Really cool, and clever idea. I think you need to bust open the creation kit ;)

Thank you so much. Although the animation took a long time I am most proud of the audio work. I listened to all the dialogue while walking in my spare time to craft this story in my mind. The voice acting is great and emotional, so it came together nicely but boy was it time consuming. I'm glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for the kind words.

I've watched this a couple of times, and have to say it's a damned shame that it has so few views.
I agree though it's so difficult to get noticed in the day and age of algorithms and trash content. The other downside is how long and tiresome machinima can be. There has to be pure joy from creation alone which becomes a strain as time goes on. Thank you for the kind words!
