    Great idea but the Ketter Parcel Delivery box is good if you want something cheaper. The lid is lifted and the parcel slides down 2 angled shelves which drops the parcel into the bottom. The bottom door is padlocked which you open to retrieve your parcel. The box has a false bottom that you can load with bricks or ballast to stop anyone stealing the box.

    Just as another tip for drilling from the outside in, always drill at a slight angle so that water cannot wick through the hole and into the cavity, even if you seal it, the sealant will fail at some point and it's just an extra layer of protection against it.

Coupled with your Ring door bell should make it easier though because if they press the doorbell and you're not home, you can tell them to stick it in the box round the corner and press the button on the front or whatever.

      First delivery is automatically accepted as the box knows it's empty. For subsequent deliveries, you'll often get prior notification from the courier so you'll know a delivery is coming. Many people combine their iParcelBox with a cctv camera so that you can see exactly who is requesting the delivery, and decide whether to allow access or not.

    A few questions about how it works:
    1) If it's unlocked waiting for a parcel, what happens if the power fails (power cut, unplugged, cable cut)?
    2) If it has a parcel in it and is locked, what happens if the power fails?
    3) What does it do if it loses internet connection? Is there a manual key so you can get into it if the app isn't working?

    • @Iparcelbox
      @Iparcelbox Год назад

      It’s designed to fail safe. The battery version will still allow a delivery when empty. The owner can also use the app to connect directly to the IParcelBox to unlock it, even if your main WiFi fails.

    • @mrhumbug5353
      @mrhumbug5353 Год назад

    • @Iparcelbox

      @@mrhumbug5353 yes that’s correct. By default the IParcelBox is locked. If it’s empty it automatically opens when the button is pressed. That is, if I buy one of these boxes now, will it still work with the app in ten years? Presumably you will need to update the app owing to changes in phone software and servers don't run for free.

    If the lid should slip from the courier's hand before they actually get your parcel in the box, the box will auto-lock. We have a similar non-smart parcel box but we're out in the sticks however I sell online and most issues would be better solved with cameras. We get a lot of customers saying items havent been left by the courier or they have been left and then stolen. This solves some issues but a camera solves ALL issues. I would point a camera at the parcel box still.

    • @Iparcelbox
      @Iparcelbox Год назад

      I'd argue that a camera doesn't prevent a parcel being stolen, it just allows you to watch it being stolen! Research from Middle Tennessee State University in the US proved that having a camera does not act as any deterrent on parcel theft, and having a secure place for parcels to be left is the best solution.

    • @scott.whittaker
      @scott.whittaker Год назад

      @@Iparcelbox Its a massive deterrent though especially if its obvious. These boxes also do not prevent parcels being stolen nor do they prevent an unscrupulous courier opening the box and then shutting it and walking off with the parcel. They exist believe me! I'm not saying these arent good, I bought a similar one but I dont even lock it as that creates delays and other issues for couriers, for instance if I dont see the notification and he gets bored of waiting. We've seen parcels get delivered and then another courier comes along same day and takes the first parcel for instance! Again at least with a camera in tandem you KNOW what's gone on. Nothing will stop a thief that is determined and doesn't care about being caught and they also exist. Add to this that a lot of "I haven't got my parcel" reports made to sellers are in fact just the customer trying it on sadly.

    • @Iparcelbox
      @Iparcelbox Год назад

      @@scott.whittaker Understood. One of the unique features of iParcelBox is that it immediately and automatically unlocks if it's empty - so for the first delivery there is no waiting around for the courier. We've found that as soon as couriers work this out, they prefer delivering straight to the iParcelBox, rather than ringing the doorbell. I believe James has had a similar experience. It's then locked until you choose to unlock it, either to empty it when you get home or to allow a subsequent delivery. I agree that for multiple deliveries, having a camera so that you can see it's a real courier adds a further level of assurance.

    • @scott.whittaker
      @scott.whittaker Год назад +1

      @@Iparcelbox Yes that's a nice feature 👍 I couldn't be a courier myself as we find most people don't accommodate their deliveries and just expect them to keep trying until they catch them at home then actually complain when it's left on their doorstep 🤣 I think most houses need parcel boxes these days instead of letter boxes, our postie already uses our parcel box.

    Yup don't think that's going to work, the problem is they press the button and then wait hmm I don't think so, not will they read anything.
    Great idea but a waste of money in my view

      Our customers get well over 50,000 deliveries a year to their iParcelBoxes, so we can say with absolute confidence that it works very well, and couriers love it!

      @deanmiles8421 Год назад

      @iParcelBox come now you and I know that is a very small number, I'm not disputing that it's not a great product because it is, the problem is many couriers don't even bother to ring the doorbell let alone wait for someone to maybe pick up their phone and unlock the box.
      Slam lock would be a better option however that only works for the first delivery.

    oh hey it's just £300-ish, the steel box would cost more nowadays.

      It is ridiculously overpriced. It’s a box with a remote switch to unlock. That’s got about £250 of profit for the supplier.

      Yep, there’s about 18kg of steel in the standard sized model. If you can get a sheet steel fabricator to make up boxes and powder coat them for less than £10 each (before electronics, branding, accessories, packaging, postage and VAT), I’d LOVE their details!!!

    • @dimitar4y
      @dimitar4y Год назад

      @@Iparcelbox that rather beefy gauge steel, fabricated and nicely powder coated... I think most shops would do it as a favor no less than £100, no? I think just one side of that cube is £20 in raw sheet stock material alone... not to mention the cost of welding, powder coating... If someone can make these no powdercoating for £10 each I'm placing an order now for a good 30-40 of them...

    • @Iparcelbox
      @Iparcelbox Год назад +1

      @@dimitar4y exactly! The cost of the “raw” metal box is by far our biggest cost. It’s 1.6mm galv/zintec, so thicker than most of the competitors. We would LOVE to make £200 profit on each unit, but with raw material costs as they are, the retail cost is simply a reflection of the big production costs of a product of this quality.
