Fun fact: if a wall is making you "snap" back, it does so in the opposite of the direction you're facing (i.e. always backwards) so if you get stuck try to find something that does that and then turn around in time for the pushback. This is the backbone of a common glitch-speedrunning tactic called "zipping"

When you enter a specific part of Ice Cap with snowboarding Sonic, the game freaks out and tries to unload the player, making it freak out more and unloading everything including code, causing a crash.

I'd imagine that the IceCap crashes are due to the level wrapping feature - maybe you're overflowing or overwriting the wrapping stuff or something. You'd probably get similar results in Sandopolis and Metropolis ^^
I think it has to do with the cutscene when he crashes into a wall and lands in snow because of the sound that plays
Sonic was snowboarding and hit the wall pretty hard, the screen goes black, making him die.
The screen then shows Tails and Knuckles crying beside Sonic's body, then it say's game over. You try looking up Sonic The Hedgehog but it says "No Results". It appears Sonic was never a thing. You try to play something else to get it off your mind, but it doesnt work, your life is never the same again.

In corrupted levels, debug mode is your friend when doing things like this. Also, the death plane is there so that Sonic doesn't take Knuckles' path because he isn't supposed to be there at all, so the game kills him as if he fell into a bottomless pit or got crushed.

The reason why that you die on knuckles path is because sonic is never meant to go there. So to continue though the game as blue knuckles is to use debug mode

dude, the blue knux is sick. one of my favorite game playthroughs is someone doing a full playthrough of a corrupted sonic 3&K file and they play as blue knuckles. they use debug mode to get past the parts that are impossible to get by. they narrated like the whole thing and explained like a lot of the corruptions and it's cool. they deleted their channel i think, but there's a reupload of it in an archive channel. it was by sonic8000. pretty sure they did it on an actual genesis too
