Since you unhinged freaks are getting your assholes in a twist over this vid, lemme say a few things:
I fucking love the Richard Williams version, so much so I travelled all the way to London to watch a screening of it back in 2018 under a year before his death. I adore this film, I adore the work, the love and the thought that went into it. I hate the fact that it was butchered by American producers. I will never condone or defend what happened to the film. That does not mean that I cannot poke fun at or enjoy some of the content within the butchered versions of this film. If there is anything positive we can take away from these things it's the meme-worthy moments they gave us.
I actually think Steve Lively is the saving grace for the Aussie version. Sure, it's not perfect and he deserved better material but he does bring a boyish warmth to the character that's vastly more pleasant to listen to than Matthew Broderick.
This video was just a compilation of Lively's performance. I made it partly out of appreciation for his voice acting work, the character and because he does have some somewhat funny lines and animation when he speaks.
It's a shitpost, it's not that fucking deep. Have a laugh, relax, enjoy the funni cobbler going brr.

This^ I agree with you 110%! I adore Richard Williams' original workprint, but I also enjoy "The Princess and the Cobbler" as a guilty pleasure. I don't love it over Williams' original work, but I do favor it a lot more than Miramax, for obvious reasons.
Personally, I appreciate how "The Princess and the Cobbler" paid little odes to Williams' vision by keeping the thief silent, not adding nonsensical monologue for everything happening on screen, no pop culture references (especially to Aladdin), and yes, Tack talks here, but at least it's limited. Plus, I also love Steve Lively's voice! It is so soothing! He has a lot more emotion and care into his role than Matthew Broderick who plays Tack in monotone (he is just reading his lines, but who could blame him with the long monologue script they gave him?).
I also appreciate "The Princess and the Cobbler" for having the voice actors of Tack and Yum Yum be both the speakers AND singers for a smoother transition to the musical numbers. Nothing against voice doubles! I just like it when there is a smooth transition with singers who sound similar to the voice actors, or vice versa. Steve Lively's singing coming out after Matthew Broderick is an odd transition.
      Thank you for this compilation!

"Why can't I ever talk when it matters?" That sounds like a complaint the writers or the actor were throwing in at Hollywood for giving Tack a voice when he didn't really need one. The studios just don't like mute characters as heroes and they wasted Tack's breath on lines we didn't need to hear. We understand Tack well enough without his shy dialogue or narration and his last scene with Yum Yum was the only time where it felt like a nice way for him to break his silence.

Hot take: After hearing about the whole story, I saw the original version on here and then checked out this version (it's actually pretty enjoyable, feels more complete and not overly Disney-ish) and I actually CAN see Tack being selectively mute, only talking when important or comfortable with someone (Princess Yum-Yum for example!) This voice fits him better IMO.
If ONLY if there was a way to seamlessly combine both versions in a way that respects Richard Williams's original vision and has something that everyone likes!
My personal take: I'd cut out some of the narration and extra dialouge, the brigands' music number, add some of the original scenes that weren't included in the film and I think we've got something!

@@gachawife5769 As much as I like the original version of him (like Richard Williams intended him to be), honestly, I can't hate and LOVE Steve Lively's Tack here, I know it goes against him talking and everything, but CMON, he's really cute this way too, not to mention Steve fits the character SO MUCH BETTER, I think, than the original odd unexpected deep voice version of him in the original and the "Arabian Knight" version, like, I think people would hate these versions LESS, if someone fan edits both versions of the film to be like the original, BUT only have either Steve or Matthew's voice as Tack for the wedding scene, depending on whichever they like. :) (Also yeah, Yum Yum's original voice too, I'm not a fan of how her actress in this version delivered the "I love you..." line at the end compared to her original voice, it sounds off and weird sounding, swap that with the original as well, other than that though, I like her voice in this version. :) )

Having watched parts of the recobbled cut, out of curiosity and liking it, I’m personally kinda conflicted but still somewhat against the idea of having Tack speak when it was made pretty clear he was modeled by silent actors like Charlie Chaplin. Giving him a voice where it should be his body language like the tacks in his mouth to convey his personality makes him feel less unique in the film.
However, Steve Lively does sound fitting for Tack, so maybe I can let it slide. It would’ve been better if you didn’t see Tack speak like in the chase scene.

Why does Tack go from literally black and white to actual skin tone? And why is the woman in the basket so much more fluid than the scenes of skin-tone Tack?

    • @tiablue9106
      @tiablue9106 3 года назад +49

Tack’s skin darkening was intentional to show his character progression. He’s supposed to look “clown-like” at the start with his powder-white skin and cartoony proportions, and as the movie goes along he tans and is more realistically porportioned, like in his limbs and face shape. Also this movie is like the epitome of development hell some scenes will be animated way differently from others

It’s understandable why many people hate this version of Tack as it goes against Richard’s original but…
    I love both versions! :)
Obviously there’s no beating Richard’s original, but I just can’t hate Steve’s version of Tack either, his voice is so sweet for the character (honestly way better than Mathew), and when he sings as him ESPECIALLY (. as cheesy as the songs are)… 💖💖💖 AAH! My heart! (There has to be a way to get in touch with him and Bobbi page for them to remake and actually sing the full versions of “It’s So Amazing”, and “Am I Feeling Love” from the soundtrack version where those two other people sang them, that would be cool, and it’s probably possible, although probably not as Steve hasn’t done any work for the past 26 years, but I know that Bobbi still sings and stuff so hmmm… I’m not sure…
Also whatever you do don’t look up Steve on the internet to ruin the illusion of Tack, I believe that newest image of him isn’t even him, looks way too old for a voice like his coming out of Tack, there was another image a while ago, but I’m not sure if it was even him either but looked a bit younger than the newest image…
