The officer who exited his vehicle on the right deserves a medal. Not only did he not run away, he confronted the subject head on and engaged him in the fight. That officer had zero cover, so instead of getting shot in the back and not see it coming, he pretty much made the decision to go to the upper room if necessary. Badass to say the very least💪💪💯😳😱💙

The suspect came out the passenger door so quickly. Took off running with another firearm. And robbed a lady with a Mercedes Benz. He actually had a nine millimeter handgun with a drum kit. That fired 60 rounds in two seconds.

Don’t give these criminals the upper hand by handicapping those who follow the law. Second is to further maximize the penalties on criminals and not always set them free back on the streets to commit more crime.

They just had a sheriff's deputy killed in the Houston area last week. I thought this was the same guy.
Also had an officer kill an innocent mother when she lost control of her vehicle in a chase. Her wreck less driving deprived a child of her mother. Don’t see her getting charged for her actions. If a regular citizen did the same thing they would be in jail facing manslaughter charges.

Believe it or not the number of line-of-duty deaths has declined dramatically over the last five decades. Policing is a much safer profession now than it was 50 years ago. Check out the study published by Criminology & Public Policy. The 80s were way worse than today for officers and the 70s were even worse than the 80s.

@@cxa340 The purpose of rehabilitation is to PREVENT people from committing more crimes in the first place and lower the overall prison recidivism rate. Sitting in prison as punishment, being treated like an animal, being cooped up with others and their problems, and then getting spit back into society with a background check that is essentially a life sentence of poverty IS NOT rehabilitation. At this point, he's a product of a broken system. If we don't want more of this in the future, we need to change things today.

Except that your entire premise of rehabilitation denies victims their rights and compensation. There must be a punitive nature to criminal justice and it must be the overriding theme of criminal justice - crimes have victims and criminals who comitt these acts must pay for their actions, otherwise we continue to loose sight of why criminal justice exists and it is to stop, prevent, or punish those who commit these acts. This individual was never going to be rehabilitated - his antisocial behaviour is a guarantee of that. Accordingly we also need to understand how serious felonies are, and how someone who commits such an act will never be able to find full redemption or rehabilitation. Felonies, unlike misdemeanors, are outside of what a civil society can allow and must carry a stigma and punishment with them for the rest of the criminal’s life. We fail in that we do not treat felonies as serious as they are, and we allow a criminal to rack up multiple felony convictions when more than 3 should carry a life sentence and remove the individual from society.
This individual demonstrated by the history of his actions that he was never going to live in a civil society - he refused to contemplate the consequences of his actions or the suffering of the individuals he victimized - he is not a victim he is a product of anti-social behaviour and a rejection of social duty and responsibility.
There are countless companies that agree to hire individuals with a criminal record, and many that will even hire felons violent as they are with one felony conviction. However deciding not to re-enter society and abide by its laws does not place the blame on society.

Regarding your opinion, I do agree to a certain extent. Our criminal justice system does need to have a punitive aspect to it. At the same time, I don't believe anyone has ever doubted the punitive nature of our criminal justice system at any point in history. American prisons have a such a bad reputation that even citizens in the global south fear being extradited to. I'd suggest you juxtapose that with the rehabilitative measures our CJS takes, but...ya got nothin'. To add to this, the system takes offenders that would otherwise be ideal candidates for rehabilitation and changes the material conditions of there life in such a way as to make them MORE likely to offend. Rehabilitative measures can be punitive in and of themselves if we cared enough to push for change. The person that had committed felonies in his past (I don't use "felon" to dehumanize them. Personal choice) was not born with "criminal genes". It's the old "nature vs nurture" debate that will continue until the end of time. I'm not necessarily saying he isn't responsible for his recent crimes. Rather, the way in which we chose to have our society operate and where we invest our time and resources create the ideal conditions for raising criminals. We need to restructure our society in fundamental ways, reassess our goals, and prioritize them. Personally, I doubt punitive measures would supersede ALL else ALL of the time if society was given a choice. Just take my opinions out of the equation and weigh our criminal justice system stats against others. Our criminal justice system is only first in the number of people imprisoned. We shouldn't account for 4.25% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prisoners. You can't lock up millions of people over the course of decades and throw away the keys without reaping the consequences. Not to mention that it seems like such a simple minded way of dealing with things that Neanderthals came up with. Put simply, we can and should do better.

The knife, alone, doesn’t get blamed, but when there’s a culture forming around knives that’s directly related to their misuse, they do get discussed in that manner. Are you not aware that many types of knives are illegal in many states? In some states, if you go to a convention where you can buy swords, you have to keep them in boxes or take them directly to your car, even if they’re not sharp, but you can carry a concealed firearm.
