India is the country with Variety of Religions, Cultures , Languages , Dance forms , Music, Dress code , Dishes , festivals etc It will take you a long time to explore indian culture for eg. There are many festivels celebrated across country if we consider only Hindu religion it has many like Diwali, Raksha Bandhan,Durga Pooja, Dahi Handi festival, Ram Navami , and these days Ganesh chaturthi is being celebrated.
Yes this is time for festivals rakhi, teej, janmashtami, ganesh chaturthi, funfair with religious belief for more then 15 days with different name different locations, ganesh viserjan, navratri, diwali 🎇 and to be continued...
The first clips you saw is Navratri festival not poonam..This festival is from Gujurat..and it's nine days dance festival people playing garba in circul..This dance called Garba for worship Goddess Maa Amba. You should check out more clips..Navratri is coming next month..This clip is from vadodara city.
The two drum stuff is Halagi... It's played with bent stick in one hand and straight stick with bit bloated head in another... That instrument is Halagi....
The first clip (with lots of people) is from my city it’s during the festival of Navratri. It happens every year for nine days continuously. The crowd grows every year.we do garba in circles around the stage (in center)with idol of maa Amba . And we Gujarati are crazy about Navratri. It’s starts 15 October this year.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
There was dhol tasha and jhanjh pathak 2 days ago in front of my house. Everyone goes bonkers here since Nashik is the OG place where it all began and grew. Nashik dhol had fire on the dhols and lights and everything you'd never imagine. It was THE BEST❤
Ganesh festival celebrates all over India but in Maharashtra special mumbai and Puna , it' s massive like and especially youngsters make groups and it' s called "mandal " for 10 days they collect money from each member and buy a ganpati bappa's statue ( murti) that 10 days was happiest day for whole India. It feels like magic.
Ganpati bappa moraya!!! U guys lord ganesh is the god i feel most close too he is known as to problem solver and the one who is worshiped first when doing anything new, he brings positivity ,knowledge and wealth. May u guys be blessed with it and everyone who reads this ❤
Holding stick straight only work in steady position....but if you hang drum its surface will be incline so we have grip sticks inclined downward position.....main purpose is we can walk with this position
It is ganpati festival in maharashtra. This is pune. At the famous Dagdushet Ganpati Mandal. And that is marathi actor Siddharth Jadhav In ganpati festival the whole state of Maharashtra is in the sound of drums
You should watch Panchari melam, Pandi melam, and Thayambaka . Three classical art forms using chenda (from Kerala). Illanjithara melam: The Pandi Melam during Thrissur Pooram (one of the largest festivals in Asia with more than 1 million visitors.) is very famous as it is considered one of the best platforms for traditional Kerala music and the largest assembly of percussion artistes in any other Poorams(festivals). 100 Chendas , 75 Elathalams, 21 Kombu and 21 Kurunkuzhal is the number of instruments in each category.
That lady on the drums is celebrating the immersion procession of Lord Ganesh at the end of the 10 day celebration period. This is indeed a rarity as normally this percussionist role is played by men and if you notice there would be large number of people in the procession dancing to that beat. Just so you know. Lord Ganesh is the one who is worshipped at the beginning of absolutely any auspicious function. In fact he has been revered as a "troubles remover" for thousands of years. The strangest part is that even a country like Indonesia, a formerly Hindu but now an avowed Islamic state, sports image of Lord Ganesh on its currency notes.
Be ready for Anant Chaturthi night i.e. Ganesha Visarjan.... There is no single city, town and village of Maharashtra is without DHOL, TASHA, ZANJ or DOLBY, HIGH PITCH MUSIC and obviously DANCE. 🎉🎉
Never thought I would watch Dhol Tasha on your channel... But music is after all what we all love. Playing Dhol tasha is an emotion in Maharashtra, an Indian state. The group where Siddharth Jadhav was playing is actually a group formed by all actors. There are many actors who come together practise and play in that group. Dhol tasha is always a must during celebrations like Gudi Padwa(Marathi New Year), Ganesh Chaturthi and Visarjan (the Ganpati festival) and every happy moment that involves a procession i guess. Its symbolic of music, fun and discipline actually for every person who plays a Dhol or a Tasha. The sticks as you mentioned are held differently than drums is because they are flexible, longer and the tasha is not like an average drum.
You should react to Bihu festival from Assam, it has multiple Guinness world records in its name, most prominent one is Bihu performance by 11,000 dancers in one place.
We're Maharashtrian people and I was also in the pathak (band)......we do this (dhol-tasha practice) on certain festivals like Shiv jayanti (birthday of great king Shivaji) and Ganpati utsav( during 10 days of lord Ganesha come to bless us) .....and Yes a lot of Marathi actors (originally from Maharashtra) do participate coz they've done it probably since their childhood as we all do.
This happens in Pune and many other places in Maharashtra State in India during a festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha which generally falls in Aug-Sep. The dates are fixed in Indian Lunar Calendar. The Dhol is the big two-sided drum, The tasha was the smaller single sided drum the girl and Greg Ellis were playing. The dhols are played in sync together (as many as 3 - 4 - 40 -100 or more) and tasha is more flexible. Tashas play variations on the base of the rhythm the dhols provide. Many martial dance types are performed on these percussions. Young and old practise playing together for months before the festival. I used to lead the first all-girls troupe for dhol tasha in my city, 20 years back - I am still a part of the dhol-tasha culture.
That first one is garba dance...gujrati dance form mainly ...we dance because we believe that for those nine days..(according to astronomy! We are the most accurate in that!) the goddess durga come and be with us..so we all welcome mata rani with her new idol..and after nine days..it's the visarjan in the seas or rivers...jay ma ambe..jay ma durge 🕉️🙏🏻
As an Indian who's grown up learning classical vocals, classical dance and some instruments (amateur levels), time signatures make no sense to me. I follow rhythm and patterns intuitively. And you can say double the speed or halve the speed or give me a demo and I'll get it. But if you say stuff like 4/4 or 2/4 of 7/8, I just don't get it. I get the theory of it but I don't get in real time while actually trying to play music.
The starting Arial view of ground and people dancing it is from united way garba ground- Vadodara city of Gujarat state during Navaratri festival..Nava means nine and ratri means night..this festival going on for nine nights particular in Gujarat called Garba is registered in unsco heritage folk dance..I am belong to this city

(off course ur fingers are gone 😅😂) I play dhol the bigger one ......These Pathak is equivalent to joining a club or some activity ..... all those people who play ...they do it. As a hobby,!
So the thing about those snare and drums, maybe you got confused or just mixed the two while saying it, snares are called Tasha and the drums, Dhol, About the snares, well this my observation and assumption, they have noticable lip, so you use those flexible sticks and hit them on the lip of Tasha and not on the membrane directly, I guess most of the time you see them play from the front so you didn't noticed it and wondering about how the stick is held. And Greg Ellis was using the wood sticks and was playing it like snare not as tasha. Just putting my observation in words, not that I hate it or don't like him.
Girl you are watching playing tasha , but in dhol tasha not only 2 instrument but also 1) dhol 2) tasha 3)zanja 4)tol and guy who was playing in mid of dhol tasha is playing sambal is instrument which play in front of goddess in Maharashtra .
