  • Crosshair wakes up in his cell on what looks like Coruscant, as Rampart gives him a new mission. To go to Desix and free the governor being held captive. Rampart removes Crosshair of his commander title, and says he’s not fit to lead any squad. But rather he has a new commander, who of course is Commander Cody. Now Commander Cody was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s right hand man in the clone wars as far as clones on the battlefield go. He was leader of the 212th battallion and led the onslaught against general grievous on Utapau. He was the first one to execute order 66 on obi-wan kenobi, betraying him.
I find it really interesting that he’s gone awol at the end of this episode, but more on that later.
Crosshair goes to meet his new squad, as he is reunited with Commander Cody, who was the one that requested him. They talk about the bad batch going rogue during order 66, and Cody says it’s weird that more and more clones have been questioning the order, as crosshair makes a jedi remark saying then they’re all traitors just like the jedi. As the music drops and Cody looks down and over, making me think he regrets ever trying to kill Obi-Wan, or at least having some doubt. This is beautiful, our boy is returning back to us. Maybe he’ll join rex.
Ames talks to Governor Grotton and tells him that Dooku was right. He always said the republic was corrupt, and that one day it’ll fall and turn into something much worse, a galactic empire. Dooku has the shortest end of the stick with palpatine. He was such a pawn and he didn’t even know it. He felt that palpatine, him, and Anakin would work together as Sith and lead a new sith army one day together. He had no idea that Palpatine would have him killed on the invisible hand ship when he was ordered to just test Anakin during their duel.
As they divide into 2 teams, we get a cool horror scene type of thing where Droidekas are heard, and we see how terrifying it is for the clones. They use some tactical moves to eliminate them, my favourite was when they threw a electric detonator at a B1 Battle Droid, short circuiting him as he dropped into the force field of the droideka, and exploding, making the infamous noise we all know from Battlefront.
Ames walks out with Grotton, and informs Cody that Desix has separated from the repulic years ago, that the empire has no jurisdiction here. Cody mentions that their droid army attacked them, and she tells him they were defending themselves. Cody expresses that the empire is merely trying to bring peace to the galaxy, when she informs him that this is not the case. She tried to put forth a treaty with seps and republicans alike, when Palpatine rejected the treaty for peace. This moment seems to really shift Cody, as he takes his helmet off and lays his blaster down. Telling Ames that they’ve both lived through one war, let’s not start another. That this can be resolved without bloodshed. She listens and releases the Governor, who then orders Cody to fire upon her. He refuses and tells him he promised her a peaceful solution to this, as he stalls and thinks how he’s going to refuse, She drops dead as Crosshair gets the job done. The music is epic, dark, gritty, and Cody is standing there, in shock. This is his switch I think, when he changes.
As the Empire takes the city, we see even more of the stormtroopers in their hybrid outfits, patroling as citizens carry goods.
As they head back to their HQ, crosshair and cody speak, as Cody inquires his purpose, he asks if they’re making the galaxy better. Crosshair says they’re soldiers, we do what needs to be done.
You know what makes us different from battle droids, we make our own decisions, our own choices, and, we have to live with them too. I think Cody leaves the Empire, and he’s feeling guilty of his choice to fire upon Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau in Revenge of the Sith.
I think Cody is going to go find Cut the farmer clone, and he may know some info on the bad batch. Cody might also seek out Rex, and end up working with him and Ahsoka.
Rampart says Cody has gone Awol, meaning he has left the Empire, and it almost seems like Crosshair is giving Cody’s words some thought as well. As he walks in the hall of many grunts all looking the same, he sticks out, he’s different, and I think he’s going to also turn against the Empire, maybe join his brothers, and die in the process.

Yeah, he even showed concern for Cody, saving him when Nova got hit and dropped all his grenades. Then later asking Cody for help when one of the battle droids had him by the neck. Crosshair chose his path because he loves what he does and the Empire allows him to keep doing it, which is Being a soldier and fighting. But he's starting to see the price of that choice, His ending can go either way, either redemption or total unrepentant evil but I think his story will end VERY TRAGICALLY!

Is also worth mentioning that Crosshair didn't recognize Cody at first due to the standard paint on Cody's armor (plain white and grey) a very symbolic reference that clones that fought to become free thinkers and develop personalities are back to just being numbers. The fact that the higher ups don't refer to Cody by name but just by their clone numbers is just hurtful.
Also the governor of Desix referencing Mina Bonteri and the time in Clone Wars when they proposed peace negotiations with the Republic was a very nice touch.

Probably one of the best Bad Batch episodes outside of the S1 premier
    1) the visuals of Desix were CRISP, I absolutely loved it
    2) Cody and Crosshair have a surprisingly good dynamic, Cody is probably the only other person outside his original squad that he has been relatively civil and comrade-like with

Crosshairs won't repent until the very end of the series, and it will be at the moment of his death, mimicking Vader's. Cody's turn is going to be a lightening rod amongst the Clones asking amongst themselves "WTF are we doing for this new Empire; Order 66 was a mistake; and maybe 5's was telling the truth." IMHO its going to lead to a showdown between the Clones and the Stormtrooper recruits. While the Clones are better soldiers and more experiences, as the narrator here said the sheer volume of Stormtroopers will overwhelm them. And like the Jedi, they will be wiped away.

It's interesting. Per kaminoans, they were supposed to obey every order without question. It seems like the Jedi really rubbed off on their programming, and sorta overrode it. They follow orders, but when the orders were generally given by generals (Jedi) who did the morally right thing all the time, order 66 starts to not sit right with them it seems. And it's interesting that we see Rex hold out against the order the longest at first, because he was so close to both Anakin and Ahsoka. And now Cody is among the first defectors: again really close to Kenobi. The greatest Jedi rubbed off the hardest on their clone commanders.

I was there when clones like Rex speculated his existence and what the end of the war would mean for his brothers. I was there when clones like Fives discovered the truth and tried to inform the Jedi of the conspiracy. The clones were never meant to be anything more than tools that would slaughter the Jedi, but they were treated as invaluable friends and comrades and came to view the Jedi as their family. Only to have the chip implanted into their brains at birth snatch all of that away from them. Now, clones like Cody are left living with the regret of decisions that he believe were his own…some are brave enough to leave behind everything they’ve ever known because it no longer resembles anything that they knew. While others, like Crosshair, are too afraid to change. It’s all just one big tragedy in the end.

Now that another one of his friends left the empire, he probably realises that he’s alone and might reconsider his position.

I actually missed the droids. The dumb funny battle droids, the highly intimidating and athletic BX commando droids, the epic sounds of the droideka's and their shields that require tactics to circumvent and the tactical droid leading them, making the droids actually a difficult force to encounter.
This shows that without jedi, the clones have to fight pretty hard and smart to win against them and still have to suffer quite some losses, even considering that this group of clones has already been severely battle hardened and experienced by the war.

Cody and Obi-Wan clicked together for 3 years, if Cody was at all a bad person, Obi-Wan would have sensed it. Cody was always a good guy, if a little stoic, but here he clearly did the right thing and Obi-Wan would be proud, they even animated him during his speech with the same body language Obi-Wan used when trying to convince others to do the right thing.

I think what Cody said to Crosshair in the end showed he knew what the Empire was doing was wrong. The mention of the Jedi made him pause and he probably remembered Obi-Wan Kenobi and all the battles he was with him. The way he handled the hostage situation and how, despite him being successful, it turned violent and the governor was executed regardless of his methods. He said that clones live with their choices, and he saw, in the end, his choices were ultimately wrong. I'm glad he's left the Empire and I hope he meets with Rex soon.
Crosshair being all alone is a perfect representation of him. Despite him being a "good soldier", to the clones, he represents the worst aspects of being one. Following orders with no hesitation or questions. Treating his squad as disposable. Never willing to find other methods or be open to them when a chance arises. Even in his days when serving the Republic, he exhibited some of these traits. He's alone for the fact that he's basically no better than a Battle Droid itself; mindless, obeys orders without question, and doesn't feel anything for anyone.

I have a few theorys (or at least I seen similar somewhere). The clones are being treated as expandable, so they are sent on missions unprepared and slowly die out, getting replaced by regular stormtroopers. If you look closely, the clones still use their old gear, while the stormtroopers are getting all the new stuff.
The other theory is that the inhibitor chip of the clones was never meant to last long. After triggering Order 66, it is slowly deteriorating and it's influence on the clones lessens. I had the sense last season when some of the clones "rebeled", that we are heading in the direction of a huge clone uprising. Since the clones are individuals some will stay loyal to the empire, but most will rebel. Or that is what I think.

probably because the officer is so entitled and sees them as faceless mindless droids rather than actual living beings, he sees them as beneath him and so instead of calling them their names he calls them by their numbers, its a small detail that goes far in showing us who they are as people

Palpatine calls Cody by name because he knows him as a close friend of Obi Wan. Cody and Anakin went on missions together that Palpatine would have been keeping his eye on.
The officer guy doesn’t have a work history with Cody and only sees him for what would show up in his mission report. I don’t think he is the type of guy to care about or respect the individuality of others. Especially clones.

Humble opinion: Troopers in phase 2 armor are clones. Those in Hybrid armor are new recruits. Hence the diminishing number of clones in their barracks. Anyone notice that? Also, seems like the clones are being sent out in dangerous missions while Storm Troopers are being used for occupancy. Idk just my two little things.

I think Rampart suspects Crosshair knows the rest of the Bad Batch didn’t die on Kamino. Crosshair was the last person to see them alive at that time and likely said they died in his official report after being rescued. I suspect Rampart will keep quiet about it until he receives actual evidence of the Bad Batch’s survival... then he will have a “chat” with Crosshair about it.

Incredible episode. Loved seeing Cody struggling with the decisions he's made. It would be interesting to see Cody later leading a failed clone rebellion since he's gone AWOL. Perhaps with the help of the Bad Batch and Rex. Maybe something similar to the Kaminoan rebellion in the original BF2.
I'm imagining a season/series finale of rebel and loyal clones fighting each other, resulting in their mutual annihilation reminiscent of Umbara. Cody leading the rebel clones, and Crosshair leading the loyal clones.
Cody dies in the fighting. Rex, Gregor, (maybe Wolfe?), and the Bad Batch escape. Crosshair may have a ROJ Vader moment in the end, realizing the Empire does not care for him and sacrificing himself to let the rebels get away. The clone rebellion is suppressed and the few remaining loyal clones are decommissioned and replaced with the new Stormtroopers.

Oh the irony the Nova was the one to die in an explosion haha. RIP Nova. This was perhaps one of my favorite episodes of the Bad Batch, it was beautifully made. Sending
Crosshairs against droids throughout the episode once again post Order 66 and then Cody asking him "do you know what makes us different from Battle Droids?", So as to really drive the internal conflict in him that much further was fantastic. I was not expecting to see Cody nor see him go AWOL so it was a welcome surprise to see both, after not seeing Cody as part of the group with Rex in rebels I assumed he continued his life with the empire until he died or was killed, I'm glad I was wrong.

For some reason I want to see some clones cry missing their Jedi and regret and recognize what they did was wrong and wasn't their fault. It would be really wholesome to see.
