The improved version of Ford's fourth generation Focus ST is now smarter - and more sophisticated inside. In hatch or estate guise, with manual or paddleshift automatic transmission, it's a car that's easy to get the most from. And a machine you can enjoy to the full on your favourite road without afterwards having to pay for it with the kind of over-firm ride you simply don't want in everyday traffic. Ultimately, so many quick cars can feel.... well, rather irrelevant. Here's one that's anything but....
'ST' is a badge that, when it comes to Ford, stands for 'quick but not concussive', a performance level that sits just above the company's fast-but-family-friendly 'ST-Line' models. A badge applied to the kind of car a red-blooded racer could afford, enjoy and use every day. A car like this - the improved version of the fourth generation Focus ST.
The Focus ST is the kind of car that's always democratised performance, giving you something of the speed of a supercar within the body - and the budget - of something much more ordinary. Other brands promise this kind of thing but in reality, often do little more than bolt a set of spoilers and a turbo onto something more mundane.
Ford though, has a different approach, the Blue Oval brand boasting a long history of developing proper performance versions of its mainstream models, designed by enthusiasts to be driven by enthusiasts. That's certainly seems to be what's been delivered with this improved MK4 Focus ST.

Bought a brand new one in 2019 (69plate) £28,000 it was, 4 years later there £37,000….definitely not worth that massive jump

I took delivery of this latest version ST in November. I nearly went for mean green, but chose fantastic red. Still a gorgeous colour, but less of a draw for the local boy racers 😉. I did tick most of the option packs, less panoramic roof as i prefer to have a full metal roof. Great to drive and love the 2 pops from the exhaust in performance mode. My previous car was the Fiesta ST which had the Recaros, so i was a little disappointed having a downgrade to Ford performance seats. They are stll fine been full electric, heated and a sliding bolster for leg length. The B&O sound is excellent, plus you get wireless carplay & android auto. Lights are brilliant, been for matrix LED.

Get yourself the Mountune M330 or the M365 with the hardware.
What's it like on fuel ? About 24 m.p.g. around town ?

I think green is the best colour for this, although thats just my preference. Not really a Ford fan these days but seems a very good car for its designed purpose.
Bearing in mind, you can now tune this at home with the 330 Mountune ECU upgrade for 700 quid - that puts it firmly in Type R territory for considerably less.
Get the track pack, and you have a hot hatch that can do absolutely everything.

How much are they automatic box version?
Hi Gary, Here in the UK the price difference between the ST Manual and Automatic is currently around £1,450, but this normally depending on the specific model year, dealership, and location. The auto is quicker from 0-60 also.
I went onto the Ford site to build a 2024 to lease and a pop up said thank you for your interest in the Ford Focus ST but we will no longer be building this vehicle (paraphrasing); I called a dealer who said no that is wrong they only build them during certain times of the year; less than 5 minutes later he called back to say he was wrong that in fact the Focus ST has been discontinued! Is that accurate?

@@OsvUkVehicleSupply I am in the States and there will not be a 2024 for us. In the interim we are enjoying a 2022 BRZ Limited; a lease with automatic transmission; it is loaded & Subaru’s top model for BRZ.
😂 they haven't sold the Ford focus in the United States since the 2018 models.

I picked up an ST Line estate and found the screen a pain when you want to put heaters on etc…

Just a pain on screen compared to how heating buttons usually are

For me the interior of the ST is much superior than the i30N! ...at least it has premium materials and not cheap plastic interior door handles

The language used in this sounded very Ford sales pitch-y rather than an unbiased review, like a sponsored ad.

Ford Australia hasn't marketed the Focus for over a decade. Still wish they did. If only to prove that the Hyundai i30 N is better.
Is that really the case? The i30N is a really good contender!
All of these wonderful touchscreens simply limit the lifespan of the car as in the future they will not be replaceable. They need to be replaced with an interface to a mobile phone with the rest as normal controls.
I think the numbers don’t add up on the torque and kw they always sell you a good number and them and then you place it on the dyno different storie glorified KUGA
Purchased the early MK4 ST in 2019, very unreliable with electrical issues. My advice, don't get one!

Seats and bodywork looks cheaper than the older st.
Fancy tablet aside, it's worse imo.
Theyre hard to find as well. Hardly any for sale, other than horrible green.
Focus RS 2018 is much better for the money.

I’m an a ST fan but I’m worried about this model.
It’s lost the ford spirit it’s a Mercedes styled but hopefully better quality as per all reports everywhere consistently showing mercy are rubbish,..
I have a focus st it’s a great car with a monster hidden beneath a quiet normal family car.I am completely disappointed by this stupid no spirit slug excrement fog eyed dumb vomit from the company I grew to love…make one that isn’t loud ok….but not ugly so a Biden activist with purple hair is more appealing…..Ff sake it’s easy to destroy the hot hatch market with almost no money..ford what is this new rubbish…
