Renee Powell is an American professional golfer who played on the US-based LPGA Tour and is currently head professional at her family's Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio. She was the second African-American woman ever to play on the LPGA Tour and would go on to win on the LPGA.
In 2015, Renee was invited to become one of the first women members of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
Renee runs a rehabilitation program, Clearview HOPE, for female war veterans. Clearview HOPE is a golf program that is recreational, therapeutic, and free for veterans in Northern Ohio. Renee's philosophy is one of perseverance, empathy and contributing to a better tomorrow. We find it hard to watch this episode without a tear in the eye.
Iona and the team fly to see Renee in Ohio in the hope of telling her story.

What a fabulous lady, has the absolute right to be bitter and angry because of everything that happened to her and her family BUT not even a glimmer, just positive about life, her experiences and loving every minute of history and just being alive with drive and motivation. I've heard the history of both Renee Powell and her father before but it never fails to impress me how her father build that golf course from nothing and Renee's achievements there after. Simply inspirational stuff all round.

Wow she and her father, what a remarkable story, the positive spirit she has despite the cruel treatment she got. My mother always said if you can be anything, be kind. I think Renee epitomises that kindness and her legacy is assured in history.

This is an incredible story, golfs Rosa Parks. I like the fact her father was well received in the UK. Inspiring, Clearview Golf Club is now on my bucket list, in fact top of my bucket list, my 20 year old daughter has just said, “Dad I will come with you and dig out my clubs again” so yes Renee has inspired my daughter. What a touching story. Renee Powell is such an iconic person in golf (as was her dad, Bill). And such a leader. Her footprints are so large. And she is selfless-a little over a decade ago Sandra Post turned 60 and the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame had a little shindig. Powell and a couple other friends showed up at SP’s house the night before as a surprise (Post and Powell roomed together on tour). The biggest names in golf have earned their recognition but I swear it tires me sometimes. If I’m puttin’ together a dream foursome, Renee Powell is in there. Golf and Good people does sum it up so nicely. Really, really well-done Iona!! So pumped right now I want to go hit some balls . . . but . . . middle of the night in Canada.
