They had books, the RUclips series forward onto dawn, the fucking anthology series. They had all of these to draw inspiration from And that ignore it all
Or as I like to think about it, the literal mission-oriented story of the original trilogy, that millions enjoyed. Wasn't perfect at all, it was exactly enough to be fun and enjoyable. After seeing that leaked scrapped script of the Halo CE movie... Wish it was enough in their eyes to then use said beloved story structure. Would've made an amazing anime series, or a Halo 3 ODST esq gritty noir. Just feels awkward using live action for something like Halo when it's so otherworldly and grand by design
You know what would make for a great show? Something like Dirt from Halo Legends. It follows a farm boy from Harvest who wanted off the planet and to pursue something other than farming. He became an ODST after joining a militia with his friends. As each planet fell he watched everyone around him die, really driving home how terrifying the Covenant were with it describing a single Elite cutting down more than 1 dozen ODSTs nearly killing him before he picked up a rocket launcher and popped off a lucky near point blank shot with a rocket launcher. Or losing a friend to Brutes. We even get a Spartan II cameo. The Spartan goes unnamed but it's perfect because it states how the Spartan was equal to an Elite and then faces a Brute head on. Imagine how cool that would be from an Marines perspective??? The martial arts between the Elite and Spartan and then the Brutes going insane and beating the Spartan up just for the Spartans training to win the fight. It'd be so cool
It’s a lot like the Netflix resident evil show. Director stated that stuff from the games did happen in the show that set up this storyline but when you watch it, it doesn’t tell you what they kept until the very end almost.
Acolyte has a chance if they can just get some good writers that like and understand Star Wars. Halo had its chance and it got ruined before it could really ever start.
Much like we've seen such as the likes of "Velma", I bet the makers of Halo pitched a series that wasn't tied into any IP, and the top brass insisted it be in the Halo universe. That sort of thing is becoming an epidemic.
Still depends on how the showrunner make it tho. Netflix's Ultraman Rising was supposed to be original IP, but higher ups want it be Ultraman. Although still flawed in some sector, the movie is not bad. If "Halo" showrunners made their shows as original IP, it would still be bad and boring. But at least it's original
@TomoEriGoto I actually support this theory. Nothing about this screams Halo. You could argue it takes inspiration from the novels that go into deeper themes into the lore than the games. I do like to think season 2 took from that and had better writing because it. But throughout the two seasons, the odd focus on characters like Kwan, Soren, and Makee don't feel like they belong in this universe. Makee would genuinely make more sense if she was written in a world like Mass Effect and was Liara. The idea of Makee and Master Chief both having knowledge of the secret rings to potentially save the galaxy from the covenant. Sounds a lot like Liara and Shepard sharing knowledge of the protheans to save the galaxy from the Reapers. The same goes for Soren as Garrus and Kwan as Tali. 😂
@TomoEriGoto I definitely support this theory. The show screamed more Mass Effect than halo when I first watched season 1, like touching artifacts and getting visions and I mean hell they had a Commander Shepard cameo in the first episode, why was that there in a halo show!? They just need to restart the show and get actual people who care and get a script that's Halo. I mean they literally wrote 265 drafts for the first season, like how do you suck that poorly at your job
IM 90% sure pablo, the actor for master chief encouraged the direction of having master chiefs helmet off so he can get his face out there more. I dont remember where I saw this but I think you can find this through his instagram comments when peopel were shitting on the show.
Seriously I want game movies to be canon to the games. That’s why I’m not the biggest fan of the sonic movies and the fnaf movie (I still enjoyed them)
Also Paramount: let’s make faithful yet original movies/tv show for Sonic and Fallout and give our own story with little extra Easter eggs sprinkled in for the fans
That's not a problem as long as the direction, production, and worldbuilding are all done with and by the writers so there's a world the characters live and struggle in. Taking an existing IP and doing your own thing means you can just take all the work already done and change the parts that would make plotholes in the story you want to tell. They hired writers who had no prior knowledge of Halo and then told them that's fine because they weren't using anything from Halo... and then didn't give them any material to work with, or time to build out the characters. So you just have flat unlikable people who don't fit into their world because there's no world for them to exist in. Compare old Irish comedy Father Ted. The creator/writer was convinced people would hate the characters in the sense of loving it when bad things happen to them. The characters were written as caricatures. But everyone knew someone like one or another character, so test audiences loved rooting for the characters and the creator ended up having to rewrite them.
NGL, this is sad for me. Not because of the show's quality or my enjoyment of it, but that shitty show was how I got my now deceased wife into Halo. After we finished Season 2 earlier this year, we started playing the games between her trips to the hospital. She died a month ago and we only made it halfway through Halo 2, but I was looking forward to watching future seasons in her memory. Legitimately heartbroken over this usually happy news. Edit: thank you guys for the support. Even if it's just strangers on the Internet, knowing that people care enough to say something matters a lot. Love the people in your life while you have them.
I still firmly believe a 1:1 short-series adaptation of ODST would slap. Just keep the cutscenes the same, bring in as many of the OG actors as possible (esp Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Adam Baldwin) and then use what would be the gameplay sequences to add in additional dialogue and further flesh out characters - providing they aren't changed, I don't want some showrunner overstepping and writing an implicit romance between Dutch and Mickey
So most studios will film 1 1/2 seasons and keep creating the second while the first is coming out so what most likely happened is that they already dumped too much money into season 2 to cancel it outright
It was probably in the contract that the show got at least two seasons and after the second season finished Paramount was cutting what they can and no brainer this show got the boot.

There are countless ips that would just go so far with either of those two directors, and halo is one of the ips that would benefit the most. Just insane how thry turned them down
I remember being SO HYPED (because this was happening circa 2006-2008 when Halo was AT ITS PEAK) by this news and subsequently having NO CLUE EXACTLY WHY the production that was supposed to have Peter Jackson and all this other talent involved never got off the ground.
Whoever buys it, could make it profitable, just gotta reboot it. Proper writers who understand the games, new cast so the audience understands its in no way related to the other show and then another streaming service to release it on for the same reason as above...
If you’d told my kid self back in 2014, probably the peak of my Halo obsession, that the best Halo news a decade later would be that a well funded, well acted, well produced live action Halo series was being cancelled, that probably would’ve broken me. It’d be literally impossible to guess back then just how wrong things could’ve gone. Obviously at this point, I can’t really bring myself to feel anything but relief that it’s over and the tiniest bit of sadness knowing almost 100% that the only lesson whatever management will take from this is that people don’t want live action Halo, when in reality all they had to do was not try to give us what they think we don’t know we want and they would’ve been rolling in it.
Band of Brothers with an ODST paint job. That show would’ve been a banger. Could’ve told entirely new stories, thrown in some cheeks, whatever they wanted!
Even better is the rumor that Christopher Nolan is looking for the rights to it so he can make a show. Apparently he is a big fan of halo and played it a lot during the production of The Dark Knight
Nolan would fucking suck if he got the right to make the show, the guy wants realism in shit that shouldn't need it as shown with his Batman trilogy. We don't need him involved, just someone who understands Halo.

The halo TV show is just what Halo has been for a while. A beloved franchise created by a group of guys that love the IP given to people who don't understand and/or hate it.
Yes that is pretty much it. The ones in charge don't understand what made Halo succeed. They don't even know what makes Halo Halo. Yet they try to listen to the community, which is basically all over the place considering there's a variety of fans who prefer 4 & 5 over Bungie's. They basically dug the franchise's grave and nobody at Microsoft knows or want to get it out of there. Legit just get O'Donnell and his men of choice on it and t(he)y might be able to retcon or fix the mess that was made.

Apparently, Christopher Nolan is trying to get HBO max to get the rights to Halo and start a new show. I know he talked about being a huge Halo fan while making the Dark Knight movies. So, fingers crossed 🤞 I just want an ODST show that lives up to the Halo 3 trailer from back in the day.
I can’t take ownership of this idea but someone brought up a good idea of the halo tv show being bascially like a band of brothers type of series. I can relate to that idea.
I’ve been a Halo fan since the beginning. I understand that you can’t just take the games/books and just make it into a show. What gets me is how the show runners took pride in destroying the history of the franchise. It aggravates me how they corrupted the lore and characters to, in my opinion, sh!t on the fans.
I've never understood how they can just think that "people clearly don't want a show about this game" when they don't follow the source material. Hollywood thought the same thing back when they made the original mario movie and the doom movie back in the day, The og mario movie was about plumbers mario and luigi trying to save popular reporter peach from mob boss King Koopa and his army of Goombas who all are giant lizard men with small heads. The doom movie felt more like it was trying to be an aliens movie but with subtle references to doom, but still had nothing to do with doom. The reason why all of these failed isn't because we didn't want the games to be adapted into this type of media, I mean just look at the fallout show, it was super successful. The reason why they all did bad was because they completely disregarded the story of the games in favor of doing their own thing.
Man if only this could happen to the Acolyte and all the other doo doo shows where the writers disrespect the source material (mostly by not playing the games or watching the movies ect)
Replayed a few missions of odst and all of halo 3 even though i was in the middle of elden rings dlc, felt like something good was happening while playing.
I've learned from decades of watching beloved franchises and IPs given to Hollywood hacks who have never seen or even played the material they're supposed to adapt to keep my expectations as low as possible. The Halo show didn't change my perspective. Not even a little bit.
There is about 48 millions kangaroos 🦘 in Australia 🇦🇺and about 5.5 million people in Norway 🇳🇴. This means each person must fight 8-9 kangaroos. This is more interesting than the entire halo show.
Im just sayin that with the experience of how NOT to make a Halo show, they now can reflect and maybe structure a new one. I'd be down for an accurate retelling of The Fall of Reach with more actors like Ackerson in the pilot seat.
I’m hoping that a subscription service buys it and then completely scrapes seasons 1 and 2 and restarts the story with a new cast crew and plot that actually respects what the franchise is.
Season 1 of the Witcher is the compromise between wanting creative freedom and sticking to the lore. Although not perfect it’s still damn good. Situations happened a bit differently with the same outcomes. Season 2 on was a complete turn which caused Henry cavil to leave and the show dies. Halo never even started that way. The being out of armor was the least of the problems with the show since in the lore of even the first halo game he’s out of armor at a time. But it was still a big problem how they went about it.
My problem with the halo series as a halo fan, is not only the halo series a bad halo show; it’s just a bad show. It doesn’t really appeal to anybody in particular
The worst part is Paramount took the lesson that nobody wants a Halo show, instead of nobody likes shows that don’t rely on source material.

There's actually a great fanfic with the same story. It's called "from Harvest to the Ark".

Much like we've seen such as the likes of "Velma", I bet the makers of Halo pitched a series that wasn't tied into any IP, and the top brass insisted it be in the Halo universe. That sort of thing is becoming an epidemic.
They just want the label to reach as many consumers as possible because the IP is popular.
The running theory is that they used a scrapped Mass Effect script and filed it down enough to slap Halo on it.
@TomoEriGoto
I actually support this theory.

They do, I've seen them on here on RUclips.
The dumbest part is that they hired people that had no idea what halo was
Lol.... Right?
That's been happening since post-Reach.
Bro, the Acolyte writers were CHOSEN because they didn't know Star Wars. Leslye said it herself. What is wrong with Hollywood???

I still firmly believe a 1:1 short-series adaptation of ODST would slap. Just keep the cutscenes the same, bring in as many of the OG actors as possible (esp Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Adam Baldwin) and then use what would be the gameplay sequences to add in additional dialogue and further flesh out characters - providing they aren't changed, I don't want some showrunner overstepping and writing an implicit romance between Dutch and Mickey

I've never understood how they can just think that "people clearly don't want a show about this game" when they don't follow the source material.
Hollywood thought the same thing back when they made the original mario movie and the doom movie back in the day,
The og mario movie was about plumbers mario and luigi trying to save popular reporter peach from mob boss King Koopa and his army of Goombas who all are giant lizard men with small heads.
