- So we did a full install of the front and rear MRR Dobinsons 3-way adjustable suspension system this winter. I wanted to dive a little more into the suspension itself and explain how I have it setup and what adjustment levels I use. Plus, its been about 6 months so I 'll give an update on what I think about them. Check it out!

Been a minute since we’ve seen the 80 Series. Can wait to see the build. 🤙🏻
Yeah I’m trying to sort out a couple other small details but a video on it will go up in August!
Just ordered my full set of dobinsons IMS cant wait to get it.
For everyday drive IMS will be at least 70-80% comfort compare to MRA, not bad for half the price.
Can you go through more on the dial settings matey. I brought some MRAs, but the shop set it up uneven. All over the place.
Great video man!
Thanks Grant!
Very cool video. Those shocks look so good, how have they held up against the road salt? The adjustable dampening is awesome, I wish I had that on my shocks.
Nerding out 👌🏻
Absolutely love my 3 way MRR's. Installed the fronts a bit before I had a chance to install the rears, so I was able to see how the vehicle responded to each change separately and that was neat. Coming from the TRD Pro Bilstein setup (with front sway bar removed after a while), I could not be happier with this setup. I also have the same mileage on my vehicle, and I keep similar settings to you. I'm still running no front sway bar, but I've kept the rear on when I'm on the road. I've had my setup on now for over a year on the front, and almost a year on the back. After lots of tweaking, I've got it dialed for when I load it up even with different weights. If anyone is on the fence about if this suspension is worth it, I highly recommend it. Where I live, there are a ton of back roads that get beat up by construction trucks hauling loads heavier than the road can handle, and it's typically me and the Raptor drivers that are the only ones who can comfortably go the speed limit, even through the very rough curves. Feels similar to the Baja 1000 out here. So much so that my wife will take a longer route when going to work in her car - but on occasion she'll take mine and come back with a huge smile about how well the vehicle handles everything.
what settings you at? im still fighting mine years later as it feels way harsh for my 4runner, tried different spring rates also
@@YotaSurfs which settings are you running?
Keeping in mind I’ve got no front sway bar and a winch bumper/winch in the front - I’ve got the rear set almost as stiff as it gets - high speed is dropped down 4-5 clicks. I like this because the rear doesn’t dip on bumps nearly as bad as it used to
On the front - damping I went full stiff, minus 1/2 turn (put a line on the adjuster at full stiff, then make that line face the engine). On high and low speed, they are each one click away from softest setting
What is your vehicle doing that you don’t like?
4 runner ... soooooo cool. I love the Tacoma and 4 Runners , but we will never have them down under in Australia .... enjoy. I too am getting the same dobinsons for my GU ( Y61 ) Nissan Patrol :-) GVM upgrade.
What model number are your springs front + rear and how do you like em?
These seem like they are in the same bracket as kings or fox shocks. But do they ride as nice? And are they as durable?
I have the same setup. I’ve had to replace 2 shocks that leaked within several months. Dobinsons Warrantied both but still a headache to reinstall them.
Yeah I believe that. Was it pretty evident they were leaking?
@@OverlandEngineer first one leaked when I went to adjust the res. The second one the HSC knob unscrewed all the way and leaked all the oil. Other than that major inconvenience I love the way they ride.
can you do a review on road comfort and off road performance? specially desert use, also can you compare them to King Shocks?
If you will send me a set of king shocks and cover my trip to the desert I will :)
@@OverlandEngineer 😂😂 I can’t even afford to buy one of those now, this is why I am considering Dobinsons, please can you tell me your honest honest feeling on road driving? I have a suspension called Rogue, it is a new brand being advertised here in Dubai. But it is very hard on road, I heard that Dobinsons are almost close to stock shocks when it comes to daily driving
@@AIB944 Yeah I recently talked with someone about this and dobinsons is sooo comfortable. Because they use rubber bushings they hardly squeak and shouldn't long term. They are quite soft so on road I drive with them set almost as stiff as possible. Offroad they are pretty awesome. If you want to do desert running, I'd just make sure to get the remote reservoirs. The front does not have a ton of travel so you may want to consider long travel if thats important to you. Because of the rubber bushings, you cannot get a front dobinsons long travel shock so I'd recommend actually running a Fox front long travel shock and dobinsons rear. You could also do locked offroad up front. I feel King is overrated...though I presume its still a good product.
resevoirs main purpose isnt for more oil due to heat. they are to move the bump stops away from the main shock body so theres more travel and to get the nitrogen away from oil in the main shock body. its a better ride if the nitrogen and oil arent mixed in, makes for inconsistant dampening. yes it helps a little bit with cooling, but it is not the main purpose, a huge misconception in this market.
Oh interesting!
how often do they need to be serviced?
It’s not determined. They wear different for every driver
In my shop we checked a lot of Dobinsons MRA and IMS nitro pressure after 1 year. They loose around 10-20 psi on average from the intial 160 psi.
23 minute long video... Actual 6 month review starts at 17:30 minutes 🙄 atleast put markers for those in a rush
Worst explanation of rebound adjustment ever. Educate yourself.
