When my wife and I got married we had this song play in our wedding.
This song is definitely one of the best Final Fantasy songs ever made.

I started playing saxophone when I was in 6th grade like any normal band kid growing up in Texas. I wasn't very good. Then in 10th grade I began playing the bassoon, which I continued to play for 10 years until 2004. I started playing the theremin less than two years ago. Not sure if this information makes it any less intriguing. I will say that bassoon is also one of the most difficult instruments to play in the world. not very many people would believe it though.

idk why people wouldn't believe it nor why i'm commenting a 13 yo comment, but i have to say that you made good use of your knowledge from what i see

Beautiful, this is my favorite theme from all the FF games, i would go to sleep humming this and the song of spira when i was playing it, absolutely amazing.

  • @randygeorge
    @randygeorge  17 лет назад +4

    Thx!
I played two other instruments before theremin, and it seemed like practicing was never this much fun. Experimentation has got to be the key. I invented my own way of playing. Theremin playing is one gigantic logic puzzle and if I can solve it completely I'll be able to really shake souls with my music.

This must be one of the most touching instruments for the player himself on this planet, I mean - the motion of your hand becomes sound. At least its different as hell

I'll just say: Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Like people have mentioned below, the theremin DOES give it a warming, cozy tune to this song, and I believe this is he sort of music a theremin would fit perfectly into.

All i can say is before tonight i had never heard of a theremin but i have been researching and find them facinating. And to have that much skill must have taken an insane amount of time. I am a musician myself.

I've never been into Final Fantasy, I was just looking up videos on the Theremin since I am interested in learning to play it, then I found you, and I have to say... the way you played this and the melody itself is just breathtaking, it made me want to weep... so incredibly beautiful!!! You are a true artist, you have made me FEEL through your music, and that is what defines true music to me, when it makes you FEEL something! BRAVO!!!

years later this is still probably one of my favorite versions of To Zanarkand. Not only is it so cool to see the theramin actually *used* but it just ends up so pretty with this song!! I always share this whenever I come back to re-listen to it which is at least once a year

  • @randygeorge

Theremin is a monophonic synthesizer with no keys, played completely by ear and muscle memory. Learn about it on wikipedia when you have a chance. it's amazing.

Thanks so much! I'll keep the two songs in mind. I've got a very large list of songs I'd like to do, but the hard part is finding or building good sounding accompaniment.
    Cheers!! and goodluck!

There are two antennas, one vertical and one horizontal. The pitch is determined by your hand's proximity to the vertical antenna. The closer your hand, the higher the pitch. The volume is determined by your other hand's proximity to the horizontal antenna. It's extremely hard to play it as well as he does in this vid, but it looks and sounds absolutely magical!

The Black Mages is Nobuo Uematsu's band. He composed the music for most of the final fantasy games and he adapts some of the more popular songs for his rock band hence the introduction of "heavy riffs". Nobuo is usually the older fellow on the synth/keyboards.

Only the constant sound is generated by the theremin. There's a keyboard track, but on a theremin the left antenna controls volume and the right (vertical) one controls the pitch. Great instrument and really simple to build from scratch at home.
