  • I built a pergola to hold my solar panels instead of installing them on my roof. Check out the build and final reveal.

In the promo for this, you mentioned it was going to be like a “back in the day” video and it was! I enjoyed it very much! The back yard looks so different than when you moved in. Great work! The dogs love the room to roam.

Gosh this was like watching old times as you were always doing improvements. I love the swing as always enjoyed that. Can't wait to see how you hook up the solar. To me this is very interesting. Nice looking flower beds also and hope the dogs don't get into them. There like sand boxes to kids. But love the dogs anyway. Thanks and hugs to Chase and Pearl.

    04:45 - so that’s where your partner went to 🪦. 😂
Good video ! Looks Nice. I guess they are 200watts a piece. So u got 1600 watts. That’s not too bad. Nice little solar set up.
You can do a lot with 1600 watts in a power outage.
I think I missed the battery storage & inverter videos. I’ll have to go looking.

That is nice! Even looks rugged and gives me some ideas. Is that a concrete slab for the floor too? One thing I noticed is the the grounding connection looks like a flat washer. The aluminum frame is an anodized aluminum so you will need to use a star washer to dig into the top layer to make electrical contact with the panel frame. You can use an ohm meter to verify your panel frame has electrical contact with the grounding wire.

Great video! I would like to build a solar pergola as well. I need one that does not have spaces between the panels so that I can grow veggies, herbs, and flowers underneath them. I want to add raised beds, so that as the plants respirate, they cool the underside of the panels and make them more efficient in the Houston heat. Have you seen any plans for a pergola where the panels create a solid roof-like structure? Did you consult with someone at the solar panel manufacturer for advice on how to build yours?

  • @eldredgered

Good call. Lots of bad press on "roof panels" ripping the roof off. Plus you don't want the thermal insulation that reduces efficiency.

Fun! ! Do you have a hail plan. We often get high winds and large hail here (DFW) in the spring storms. I assume the panels have a rating system for hail damage? Tell us about that please.

@@PippiPeterson do you think that that 1600 watts is going to be enough th keep the electric company away. i know texas has their own grid and the rest of the country shares the other two grids. i have 13 pnls on my house and i get what they call a reverant bill which is supposed to be paid at the end of each year. right now i owe my reverant bill 72 dollars but SCE owes me 87 dollars be soon winter will be here and things will change so i may owe them 20 or so bucks. just wondering what you think your pnl will do for you or are you planning to add more panels.
