@Alpha Defence, Thank you for this video. My bet has always been on you as I feel that you have a much deeper and better understanding of whats happening in defence tech related developments. I totally agree with you that India should have acquired Tapas in some numbers and to help in further product development and industry establishment. It was also a new learning for me that the advertisement numbers provided by foreign companies are not practicable.
As much as I respect Alpha this time around Defence Matrix's argument is much more stronger. We cannot compromise army's capability for merely promoting indigenous weaponry if it is significantly underperforming than its competitors. Shortcomings also have to be addressed and finding excuses for it by providing the indigenous argument is not enough. We can only do better if we are strict in our approach and identify our flaws and fix them. Saying that these are advertised no.s etc is irrelevant. Even if advertised, the real figures wont be very astray. Moreover, Tapas's numbers are also advertised basis calculations, actual flight performance has only been tested for about 10hrs or so.
Why don't the army just fly all these drones and gather data, then share their real performance and capabilities with the government. This will clarify fact from fiction.
I completely agree with your suggestion that we shoud find a way to support the Industrial ecosystmen... That will pave the way and encourage them to enhance the parformance of their products and components make them copetetive...
I think that their work is actually analysis of defence equipment and bringing it to us people. And I believe that they are in the right to debate it out and provide us With the information. Nothing wrong to have debates on deeper analysis.

As a person from defen😮ce been part of many procurement of weapon and ammunition..and experience of 32yrs.....AD you are absolutely Correct.. We know exactly what is the GSQR what is the advertise data.and what is the Actual performance....all gullible. We need self reliance top defence eqpt manufacturing nation and not a top import nation..💣
So overall summery is our defence forces not showing interest in developing Indian drone industry. I think we should keep developing TAPAS and sell it to friendly countries, so that at least our drone industry will boost. We trusted ISRO and now it’s one of the top space agency. We should develop drones by keeping general requirements of defence forces in mind.
And also we can use them for some other specific purposes which requires less endurance and less altitude flying. This will support the industry and make drones of this segment better in future with industrial ecosystem that is going to be mature then.

To prepare a eco- system of drones, don't put requirement of wotld's best at first. If it is so, compare holistically and on same parameter- One on paper and one on ground- no compare. I have a genuine question. Why can not we make a sturdy drone and drop from 30k altitude from a airplane. It will only have to power for the steering and endurance. It doesnot have to take a lot of fuel to rach that altitude. And it can land with a parachute. Why not?

We are trying to be indigenous and independent in our defence equipments needs. So, this is transition phase and we have to bear with it for some time. Calling all drone manufacturers and adopting process like MRCA will take another 10 yrs and we will never achieve what our forces require ..we actually don’t know what we need and when no drone manufacture has any products for 30,000 ft then why we are wasting time on it ..even our forces are equally responsible for all delays
Excellent podcast. We need to continue with the development of Tapas and use the existing models for appropriate uses and move ahead. We need not bother about which drone in the world is better or the best but just focus on what we want and how to get it there.

Sir this is the thing i am saying from beginning that if you see other countries they over advertise their products, even when real operation specifications are much low. Even look at korean boramae 5th gen fighter in my opinion that fighter has not any feature of 5th gen and even not stealthy also koreans made in it just 8 years , even America a high tech country took 15 yrs in designing of 5th gen fighters , other countries over market their products to sell their products, but in our country i have seen we declare practical datas after real testing. And not to forget that our armed forces have a habit of import lobbying foreign items and they are to be directly blammed for destroying indigenisation of defense products.
I believe some numbers of TAPAS should be taken to support our homegrown industry. Because during wartime you never know when exporting country will stop your supply. In this case, i dont think Israel will backstab us but i would still believe as it is under US influence and what US wants it will do it as research and development money of Israel majorly come from US. Subodh a surveillance drone need not have such huge endurance and such high altitude. Also historically more drones are lost in sky than aircrafts. There have been 250 Predator crashes till now. It is our armed forces that are unrealistic extracting 200 flights from 4 prototypes is criminal it is susceptible to wear and tear. Budget for 15 prototypes and then do 500 flights. All the test data will be available. In case of Nishant too same was the case.
There is well known case of lobby that supports imports as that is path to large profits quickly. Modiji can shout Atmanirbhar from rooftop but the system does not change unless from Defense minister downwards there is belief in that process required for Atmanirbhar.
Army should go for limited numbers of Tapas to support the R& D that's gone into it. Army can upgrade these drones later when it's more developed further. Army should work in collaboration with other organizations to build an ecosystem. They need to get out of perfectionist mindset and import mindset and work in ecosystem building mindset.
Today while walking in my apartment complex in South Bangalore about a couple of hours ago, I saw a small aircraft flying. On a more detailed look and guessing from the faint sound of it I am pretty sure I saw a Tapas like Drone flying. The wing shape and the Fuselage were unmistakably indicative of a Drone.
Sir...Tapas being a 1.5 ton class drone, would it have been better if some turboprop or atleast a more powerful light weight piston engine had been used...also the drone design seemed a bit too 'traditional aircraft like', we should modify the design in line with contemporary drone designs PS - Can we INDIANS try some sort of crowd-funding for drone research in India / DRDO

Indian army got intelligent engineering and officers brother. They know their requirements and also which can be met or not. Otherwise F22 Raptor is also available above the Tejas Fighter series

Army should go for limited numbers of Tapas to support the R& D that's gone into it. Army can upgrade these drones later when it's more developed further. Army should work in collaboration with other organizations to build an ecosystem. They need to get out of perfectionist mindset and import mindset and work in ecosystem building mindset.
Today while walking in my apartment complex in South Bangalore about a couple of hours ago, I saw a small aircraft flying. On a more detailed look and guessing from the faint sound of it I am pretty sure I saw a Tapas like Drone flying. The wing shape and the Fuselage were unmistakably indicative of a Drone.

Sir...Tapas being a 1.5 ton class drone, would it have been better if some turboprop or atleast a more powerful light weight piston engine had been used...also the drone design seemed a bit too 'traditional aircraft like', we should modify the design in line with contemporary drone designs
