Also, the melody is what makes it unique- there are many vanias, but only one Megalovania.
Listen to Megalo Strike Back. Totally different (equally good) Vania but the Megalo is still highlighted over everything like in Megalovania, and it uses the same sampled lead instruments from Earthbound. Your Vania/Megalo idea holds up
