Omg, I'm a total beginner and my head is aching trying to follow this...! I managed to make 36 thingies then divide them between the two needles, then knit purl one half and now I don't have the slightest idea how to deal with the ones in the circle.... I don't know if you'll understand where I'm at, but if you do please help me! I want to carry on this project. Thank you!!
This is called “Magic Loop” knitting and it’s a very common technique people use when knitting smaller items in the round. It basically takes the place of using double pointed needles. I know exactly where you’re having trouble but would highly advise looking up videos that teach this technique versus me trying to explain it here. The videos I think would do a much better job since they can visually show you what to do. I know this comment is like, almost a year old but maybe it’ll help anyone else having trouble. Good luck!
@@izuzuchan agreed! Practice your magic loop a smidge (I make funky leg warmers lol) and come back. Or follow the tutorial until you get the required ribbing done and then you’ll be at the same point the video is at
Thank you for this! I know how to do scarves and hats but wanted to make a whole set so this was very helpful! I somehow managed to start knitting the thumb inside out but I was able to backtrack and figure it out 😂 thanks again!
I had to check another video because you did not show what to do after you knit the first side of the circular needle....ie push needle through and turn knitting around. That would have been helpful. Others wise I like your video. Dialogue would be nice too.
Thank you for the video!! This was the easiest thing to make yet because of you. Question: if I need to make it smaller are the stitches for the beginning of the thumb and closing stitches the same amount or should I decrease those as well?
Great tutorial. I needed to see how you pick up the thumb. I am using Hiya Hiya 9" circs for these mittens and dpns for the thumbs. I love the music at 8:40. What is it? Thank you for teaching!!!!!❤
Thank you for your tutorial. I have a question, my hands are small how can i calculate the right amount of stitches needed? Do i cast by multiplies of which number? Than you!!
Great tutorial! Do you use two strands of yarn while knitting? I'm going to make two pairs of pink mittens for my granddaughters for Valentines Day. Thank you.....
why are there 2 strands of yarn worked together, and wouldn't this be mentioned somewhere? I'm a beginner but i don't think knitting with 2 strands is standard.
@@Ngjnw Hi, will it matter if you have 4ply yarn and use only one strand of yarn? If I have 4 ply should I definitely use two strands of yarn? I am trying to make large mittens for my dad. Thanks :)
@@Ngjnw ok awesome I will increase the stitches. I am using 4 ply yarn so will it matter if I only use one strand or should I use 2 strands when working with 4ply for this pattern. Thanks
@@Ngjnw thank you so much! And sorry last question: When making mittens for a man with large hands how many stitches should I increase to? For both the hand and thumb parts? Thank you for answering!
So you hade 5 stitches in the thumb, after you decreased then “knit all” how come that you hade three stitches one one side ands 6 on the other one? What did you do after that?
I am so lost with the circular needles and separating 18 stitches on each side. It's so tight you cannot knit well enough and I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing! Hard to see what you are doing as far as that.
So frustrated! I followed to the end until you came to decrease the thumb the couldn’t get it cause the video been cut there where I must decrease the last five in each needle, very weird caus the video never been cut where I didn’t need to see you knit in between , stitch for stitch 😢😡
Thank you so much!!! My mom asked me to knit her mittens for Christmas, and all the other tutorials confused me so much! This has been a life saver!!!
I am hoping I can do thiswithone paralysed hand I have the wool and the circular needles wish me luck
Good luck you can do it. 👍
My girlfriend wants me to knit her mittens this winter and I think I can do it now, thank you
Thanks for such a clear tutorial. I've never used circular needles so this will help a lot.
Thank you! I was reading a written pattern on how to make a thumb gusset, but seeing it is soo much better.
Thank
you very very much. First time in my life I understand it.
Really liked this tutorial, good music and I liked no voice. All very easy to follow. Thank U !
Yes. Very good tutorial.

You could try to watch the video on a slower speed, so you can see better what is happening on the needles :)

After you get up to twelve stitches in the thumb gusset do you still repeat rounds two and three where you knit all the way around?

I've never seen knitting with 2 strands of yarn together before. What is the reason for it? Does it make the mittens thicker and warmer?
Those yarn are thin thats why I am knitting with 2 strands of yarn, you can knit with single strand of yarn.
do you onlu increase the thumb gusset on one side?
Yes.
why are there 2 strands of yarn worked together, and wouldn't this be mentioned somewhere? I'm a beginner but i don't think knitting with 2 strands is standard.
Thanks for confirming that. Being a beginner I thought I might be missing something.

I'm new to this, it is not clear how to join the two sides on the first row. Thank you for your attention.
It is a round knitting, first you have to learn how to knit in round with circular needle, then only you will be able to understand. 🙂
turn the music off!!!!
Just mute it
Kind of difficult to follow,….
Idk how they’re connecting the round when they first start they don’t show it
I only have 5.5mm needles. Will that work?
Like the tutorial. By the way, what type of yarn did you use?

I'm a little late to the party, but which finger do you use to measure the length of the mitten, before decreasing??
Index finger
