The first thing I think of with overfishing is nets. A lot of times, those giant nets take so long to sort through that any fish that wasn't intended to be caught dies anyway. Entire schools of fish can be wiped out with one net.
However, I do also have a problem with regular people not following fishing laws and also just keeping excessive amounts of fish. Like I get there's no limit on the white bass but you really don't need to keep 100 of them...see people do that all the time.
I'm a freshwater biologist and when I take fish I only take enough to last for a couple meals at most, and it frustrates me when I see excessive catches. And people wonder why they catch less and less fish every year.

A quick word on pufferfish: dolphins have actually figured out how to use their venom as an intoxicating drug, and they will frequently pass pufferfish around and chew on them to release the poison and get "high". I don't know how much this is practiced among dolphins, but if you are used as a literal drug by another species, I think that's a good sign that you've failed.

Seahorses are incredibly successful for their niche of ambush predators with a 90% catch rate.
Not many predators can attest to such success, the closest you could compare them to is perhaps the great white shark with an 80-85% success rate.
So by survivability alone I’d give them about at least a c+ or a b-.
But in terms of everything else but maybe weirdness& cuteness I’d say they’re below average at best.
They’re weird, they’re dumb, they’re possibly maladapted, but I love it.

Just found this channel and I’m loving it! When I was little I wanted to be a marine biologist, and now still I find marine ecosystems fascinating!
I’d love to see a video on fish intelligence, as I’ve recently found myself interested in it, especially in just how much it seems to vary from fish to fish. For example, my pet rasboras seem like basically mindless drones, while my betta seems incredibly intelligent in the “dedicated couch potato” way. And hearing about groupers learning to eat invasive lionfish is cool! I’d love to learn more about the broad spectrum of fish intelligence!
