I love how you made the aliens drawn in marker and feel friendly and childlike. They felt artistically like they were sepetate from the world and it worked so well
I love how the title can refer to “mothership” as in being a mom - but also as “mothership” like an alien mothership/spacecraft. Great detail and amazing effort was put into this masterpiece of a project.
Adding to this, i think it also adds the fact that mothership is actually not much seen in the animation except for of course the kid's mom, but i think it has another sense too about the protagonist and her mother probably, or family in general, and how this one was raised to feel like she is different from others and want to escape this world
I like the fact that there’s scenes where there’s almost nothing going on, like the gas station. It gives space for the audience to ponder and appreciate the art style and sound design.
The scenes also serve a deeper purpose. They establish the general mood and feel of the protagonist's life. Which is important as a contrast to her time at the daycare and with the ship.
2:13 this particular scene isn't that empty. When she looked at the stars it showed us she thinks about her family, so that part is quite sad or melancholic to think about it. But yeah, the art style is nice.
3:47 - I actually did this before. I drew this drawing of these girls drinking out of a river in a dessert. And my Nan had a dream of that exact drawing, it was so strange. EDIT: I have like so many notifications for this comment lolz, I’ve never had so many.
so so beautiful and a lovely way of storytelling! i really love your character designs and touching upon on not belonging on earth is such an interesting concept! amazing work
I relate so much to this film. I've never wanted children of my own, yet I'm good at connecting with kids, maybe I'm a little bit like a kid still inside lol. I treat every encounter with a kid in a way that I'm present and listen and talk with them, not to them. I find that enough to fullfill my need to interact with kids. I also feel that many of those who do have children, forget to be present for them on the daily basis, because they're so busy and tired and look at the world only from the "adult" perspective. I think that's a real tragedy.
@@izabellearmin5778 yeah, I think many people also make miscalculations (or don't even consider the whole subject when having children) to how much money, time and mental energy even just one kid needs to grow up to be a healthy adult. You know, it's a taboo to talk about the hardships of parenthood - especially if you're a woman - and on the contrast, media is filled with "happy parenting moments". That may skews young people's perception of the reality of parenthood. There's also sayings such as "your child will teach you how to be a parent", which will mislead you to think no (mental) preparation is needed. So people go having kids thinking that every problem will just magically solve themselves and they're just the passive passengers of "parenthood train". And, that after all love is the greatest power and no hardship will ever have effect on their parent-child bond. Only to end up finding out they've overestimated their resources and burn out and can't be the parent they wanted to be. There was a real need for some realism when it comes to discourse about having children. That's the only way we ensure that people would have children rather when they're practically and mentally ready to have them, and also ensure they have good enough safety net around themselves before having them. I mean, people have these things figured out when having puppies, but somehow the same discourse is not encouraged when you're planning such a huge life changing decision as having children.
I’ll unfortunately admit that I had at first assumed this was a Pokémon fan animation about Brock’s childhood. I’m extremely glad I was surprised by this stunning animation, storyline, and overall project. The colors tell such a large story, each interaction is extremely heart-warming, and natural. Amazing job.
Because English isn’t my mother tongue, and because I am super sleepy, my brain first read the title as “mother-ship”, like being a mother, and/or combination of “mother” and “friendship”. It wan’t until the ending card, where I realized it (also) referred to an alien mothership. That is so clever!
This made me cry due to the fact I’ve always felt like an alien when everyone around me is so different, and always made me feel different. Everything I do looks foreign to everyone, and it feels like I don’t belong anywhere. Really stunning animation and amazing storyline. 👍
This gives me Bee and Puppycat vibes. The way the characters talk to each other like it's just a regular conversation and not a series of scripted dialog feels so authentic. The art style isn't very similar to Bee and Puppycat but I think that's a good thing. This type of 'genre' can be expressed in a lot of different styles and settings! What I'm trying to say is I like what you made and wish you luck on your art/animation.

This video makes me incredibly happy for no reason. I love the charming touches in the art style and the fact that her alien mothership is a sail boat. Very adorable and comforting video 💜
wow. maybe it is just the way this reminds me of how i felt watching shin chan or doraemon for the first time as a child in class 2 or 3, but this ~4.5 minute long cartoon made me feel so calm, at ease with what i am today. the everyday life shown here is so minimalistic yet so relatable down to the shopkeeper clicking away at the counter, down to the way the protag slowly closes her eye in a wink only to open it back when the mom arrives but still speaking for a second or two more... and the artstyle is so adorable. so, so, so well-done! would love to see more of this!
I definitely can relate to the woman in this animation. Not feeling like you belong, feeling alien. But for me it's not necessarily about the world around me, but my generation. I really love the message here!
I used to think I didn't belong in this planet too, doing the exact same thing, looking at the stars for long periods of time when in need. No one ever came, but that doesn't stop me from looking at them every so often. I come back to this animation constantly too. Thank you.
This is a such an unexpected treat from my recommendations. This is a neat and endearing animation about how vivid imagination isn’t only for children.
Reminds me of adventure time, it was always about playing around, but there were moments where characters got really deep and emotional, while being so easy to relate to at the same time.
I really connected to this, it is beautiful. The smile at the end made me cry. I've been in therapy for years, and its amazing how this animation says so much without having to show what the character has gone through. After trauma its hard to open up and be vulnerable, but she shared her experience with this kid and he listened and made her a picture... I wasnt expecting have all these emotions when I clicked this video, lol! This reminds me why I love animation so much. I hope I can make art like this someday.
This was a wonderful animated short! I love the dialogue between the characters, it feels natural and the general message of the story is so great! The animation is also adorable! I love this.
Ah man you can't do that, you can't have me start crying at the very end of the short cause of the small, basic kindness that makes every day worth going through, that small kindness that you'll always remember. That ending was just so beautiful I teared up on instinct. Absolutely amazing short. I sincerely hope you get to do what you love in life and get to live life your way, cause a short like this touched a lot of people and gave them a small moment of kindness that so many need.

I definitely can relate to the woman in this animation. Not feeling like you belong, feeling alien. But for me it's not necessarily about the world around me, but my generation. I really love the message here!
The drawings look like barely any development was put into it, and that’s just the cute charm of this heartwarming Pokemon fan animation :)
Pokemon?
This right here is a perfect example as to why true art doesn't need more content.
I used to think I didn't belong in this planet too, doing the exact same thing, looking at the stars for long periods of time when in need. No one ever came, but that doesn't stop me from looking at them every so often. I come back to this animation constantly too. Thank you.
Needs so much more love, this is so amazing!! 😭
Such a great animator
I like all the other styles like the cartoon style for example it's just a fun little animation, keep up the work
This is a such an unexpected treat from my recommendations. This is a neat and endearing animation about how vivid imagination isn’t only for children.
you're style and animation is so great, and this video is also poggers
These are the type of animations that get 10 Million views in the future.
wait-
I'm actually gonna cry-
what an adorable story, also both the animation and the voice acting are STUNNING. thanks for this wonderful video!!
I love this animation, it’s just animated so well and it has this vibe idk
Definitely an underrated short film here, enjoyed ever second of those 4 minutes! Amazing job and I can’t wait to see what other animations you make!
Reminds me of adventure time, it was always about playing around, but there were moments where characters got really deep and emotional, while being so easy to relate to at the same time.
i love how in the dream sequence, it looks like it was drawn by a child, yet it actually was
THIS IS SO GOOD AND THE ART IS SO WONDERFUL AND COZY AND I LOVE THIS SM
This is a wholesome animation, also nice storyline. Also the title being “mothership” is genius.
This makes me feel both sad and fuzzy inside, amazing work! I hope to become someone who can make cool things like this :)
