@@kenqb5450 i found a live 157 Riverside Avenue that runs 10 minutes, including a bass solo from Bruce Hall. Sheer beauty. Of course, what's fun about 157 Riverside Avenue is that you get to compare all three singers. There's video of Terry Luttrell (vocals, 1st album) and of Mike Murphy (vocals, albums 3-5) out there, as well as Cronin (2nd album, then albums 6 and on, after the record company insisted the band re-hire him). So you get a nice mix.
This was a very iconic song for hubby's and my relationship. We had been acquaintances for many years, both had been married and divorced, I actually babysat his kids for a little while!! Fast forward to mid-summer of 1997... we reconnected after no contact for two whole years!! THAT started a great friendship, we saw each other almost daily starting at the end August. Long story short... he took a big risk on November 5, 1997!! As I was leaving from our evening of watching E.R. or whatever was on that night, he literally grabbed my hand, pulled me back in his apartment, pushed me (GENTLY) against the door and proceeded to kiss me!! It was what we both had wanted to do but we were each thinking the other only wanted to be friends. We just celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary at the end of August. 💜💜💜 It was this song playing on the radio just before we met that evening that prompted him... then he felt that I was hesitant to leave like I wanted to say something. That kiss was the most pleasant surprise ever!! We both knew we should be together, but prior heartaches almost stopped us... so glad he faced his fear!! GREAT reaction, by the way!!!
We are now grandparents in our mid/late 50's, our kids don't use the word 'step' in front of brother or sister because they really grew up together. My youngest was only 6, and his oldest was not quite 14, when we got married! Brad... Robert and I are 'the rest of the story', LOL ...happily ever after!!
You got this one wrong, the guy has not been friend-zoned. He is the one keeping her at a distance while he does his thing until he suddenly realizes that he has feeling for her. "It's time to bring this ship into the shore". He is done running around. "And throw away the oars forever" He wants to settle down with this woman.
You guys need to go down the JOURNEY rabbit hole. "Who's crying now" live 1981 Houston Concert is a good one to start with. Always do their live versions if available. "Mother Father" from same concert is a must do also.
The way you guys just shamelessly enjoy everything always puts me in a good mood. All the songs I love and I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time when I watch your vids. This is why I love reaction channels, never gets old watching someone get into something you've loved for years. 😄
Lex truly enjoys them, I seriously doubt Brad even likes music, he never feels any of it, he has even said that hes NEVER really heard any music that moves him... hes just there for the $$$...
I know Lex doesn't always catch the lyrics, it is usually music 1st. When discussing a possible part 2 of the song, she asks "Did he beat her with his oar?" Too funny!
[Opening Notes] - Lex: "Awww" Yes, that is the correct reaction. I hear this and I'm back at a school dance in eighth grade, pining for the little Red-Haired Girl in homeroom (and yes, I am pretty much Charlie Brown). 😉🙃
No it's not, god don't tell them that. It's a completely different style. This is their soft rock era, that's their harder rock era, they will assume the style is the same when it's vastly different.
Yes, the 80s were definitely the time to lyrically express your feelings. There was a lot of that back then, especially when it came to expressing your feelings to a girl? You had tons of songs to pick the perfect words. 😊❤️🤘🤘
This is one of my favorite songs. I dated the replacement keyboard player for a couple years. I’ve see them play hundreds of times but it never got old!
REO Speedwagon was my first concert in Fall 1981 (Ticket price was $9.00 plus a .25 cent service fee; same for Van Halen!). All of their songs are basically the soundtrack of my high school days.
100% we belly-rubbed to this song all through high school. This was THE high school dance slow song. All I can smell is Aqua Net hairspray and Sweet Honesty perfume when I hear this song.
REO Speedwagon was the first rock band I went to watch back in 1982. I was 18 yrs old, and my first love was 17 yrs old. I remember they played this song, which I dedicated to my sweetheart. Awesome band

REO Speedwagon and Air Supply were 2 of my favorites in the 70's. People have become so cynical now that we're losing what true romance is. My dad was a romantic. On their first date my dad (stepdad) took my mom, us 2 girls and our babysitter/family friend out to have a fun day then took mom out for dinner alone on their 2nd date. To her and us that was romantic as well as respectful because it was his idea and showed he was serious about mom. To the day he died he sent her roses and some kind of present on the anniversary of that first date, the day they got engaged, their wedding anniversary, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and her birthday. The women in her office were so jealous of that and always told her how lucky she was. He died 4 months after their 41st wedding anniversary.
I left the channel for a bit, and I came back yesterday. I still can’t put my finger on, if I’m jealous of Brad or sympathetic to his analytical aspect. I feel music/art before I analyze anything. Is that bad or good? Other factors are in play, at the moment, too.
This song was after they sold out and went all commercial radio pop. REO used to rock in their early days. Try the live version of Ridin' The Storm Out, Golden Country, 157 Riverside Ave. or Keep Pushin" (from the live album "You Get What You Play For")

Hardest job in the world…lol… I’ve despised you a few times myself…but I know I couldn’t do it any better so it’s all good! Keep up the good work, best reaction channel out there!
When I was in high school, we(marching band) played this at halftime of one our homecoming games as the homecoming court was introduced. Cheesy, I know.
Always the REO ballads. They rock too! Golden Country, Don’t Let Him Go, Riding the Storm Out, 157 Riverside Avenue, I PROMISE you will love these songs.
I am amused that you started with one of their ballads... It is definitely about a guy who has been afraid of commitment finally realizing that he truly loves the girl and wants to be with her forever... thus the lines about bringing his ship into shore (rather then sailing away) and throwing away the oars that take him away.... the candle in the window was the old means for sailors to find their home... Now you need to listen to their most famous rockers, "Riding the Storm Out", "157 Riverside Avenue", and "Roll with the Changes" and maybe even some of their later more "pop rock" type songs like "Don't Let Him Go" and "Take It on the Run"
True story this band came to my little Caribbean island of Trinidad and me and my wife slow danced to this song. We love all their songs and yes this song has been memed many times. You have to try Keep on loving you, Take it on the run and In my dreams 🎵🎶🎵

LOL I loved how the Vulcan (Brad) found it illogical and whetever and it made Lex all giddy inside.
Since the mid 70's, my favorite band.
True story this band came to my little Caribbean island of Trinidad and me and my wife slow danced to this song. We love all their songs and yes this song has been memed many times. You have to try Keep on loving you, Take it on the run and In my dreams 🎵🎶🎵
Watched them live and it was ABSOLUTELY, AMAZINGLY, UNDOUBTEDLY, PURE AWESOME!!!
Love how the music always moves Lex. The giddy laughter is awesome.
