    • @philpennington826
      @philpennington826 2 года назад +8

      The name of the album was "Hi Infidelity". It was a play on "Hi Fidelity", "or Hi-Fi". And "infidelity" is one word. No, I'm not trying to be a Grammar Nazi. The difference is important here. The way you wrote it, "High in fidelity", would mean someone is high in their faithfulness. "Infidelity" means "unfaithfulness", or, cheating on your other half.

    Hey, y'all! Just stumbled onto your channel earlier today; can't stop watching, now! As a 60 year old man who listens to everything from Hank Williams to Robert Johnson to Alice in Chains to Lil Troy and Tupac, I feel like if we could ever just listen to one another's music, maybe we could understand one another a little better; learn to love one another a little more and hate a little less. Love what you're doing. That having been said, I have a suggestion. Not sure if you've done it yet, but I think you'd like Disturbed Sound of Silence. It's a Simon and Gatfunkel cover.

    The lead singer said this song is a response about finding out that his wife had been cheating on him before they were married. Instead of leaving her, he decided he would keep on loving her. He said that a lot of people over the years have told him they use that song as their wedding song, but that's a bad idea. In the very first verse of the song: You played dead, but you never bled, Instead you laid still in the grass, all coiled up and hissin'. She was a snake in the grass. Then he goes on: And though I know all about those men, still I don't remember...

    Seen REO in Toledo Ohio back in the 80’s. The line up was Danny Joe Brown, Foghat and REO at an outdoor concert at Toledo speedway. Someone in the audience threw a milk jug of beer (no glass allowed) on stage while REO was playing. The whole band had to stop in the middle of a song to clean up the mess so they wouldn’t get electrocuted. Then the lead singer told the crowd that if they see someone else do that to “punch them in the mouth” for him. All in all it was a great concert.

    REO Speedwagon. This song, on their 9th album Hi Infidelity (1980) was released in late 1980, and was their first top 10 hit, reaching number 1. REO has been around, however, since 1971, when their 1st album was released. Been listening to them since the early 1970's. Great REO songs that pre-date Keep On Loving You are: Keep Pushin', 157 Riverside Avenue, Ridin' The Storm Out, Golden Country, Little Queenie, Like You Do, Roll With The Changes, Time For Me To Fly, Only The Strong Survive, & On The Road Again. For 157 you'll want to get the live version. It's just NUTS, but a lot of fun. Guarantee you've never heard anything quite like it in your lives! Three GREAT SONGS! Back in the day REO was considered one of the best arena rock bands you could see live. They just put out everything they had into every song. You won't see anything like that today. Kevin Cronin actually wrote this song about his wife who he was in the middle of separating from at the time. The beginning of the video is just some bum director's lousy idea that means nothing and they probably regretted doing it immediately afterwards.
    I have strange feelings about this song for an unusual reason. When it came out, everybody who knew us thought it was me and my music partner and that we hadn't told anyone back home who used to come see us that we'd been signed to a record deal and released a single and that it was supposed to be a surprise. Lol! My partner sounded like the lead singer and I used to sing really high like in the chorus. I heard about this for years afterward whenever I'd hear from people from back home. Lol! But actually, like so many others, it just never happened for me.

    You have to remember that A LOT of ‘80’s music videos were often directed by ‘commercial’ directors trying to make a name, and the video’s frequently are an artistic indulgence for the director. They seemingly have no context relating to the song. The song is the song… the video is the video. If you had never seen this video, and listened to the song, it would literally just be a sweet love song, slightly in the ‘power ballad’ category. Often overlooked with REO, is the harmonizing. Kevin. Cronin’s natural soprano, (that’s not falsetto) needs to be harmonized with a few voices in lower registers, they did that as well as anyone.

    This is their best song, and actually the very first power ballad to use strong electric guitar power chords. It started a revolution! This was early 1981, and it FINALLY put them on the map. It hit #1, and so many rock bands followed in their footsteps. You just listened to the beginning of the 80's power ballad era with this song!!! 💯

      @@maryellenazack4466 I see where you're coming from Mary Ellen. They had been around since the sixties and didn't score their first big breakout album until 1981 which made them a determined hardworking band and I can appreciate that work ethic. They were pretty damn good for what was going on in the eighties. A lot of one hit wonders and remember the bands that had videos with some clown playing the infamous keyboard guitars and the mullet hair with the long hair way past their shoulder's. I have nothing against long hair, I always had long hair (I'm 63 now and my hair is over ears) I've been enjoying Beatles 1965-66 look over the last year but when I saw these jerk offs I would have taken great pleasure in taking that piano guitar and smashing it over their heads and I've never once committed a violent act I'm my life, I'm all about peace and love but these guys always pissed me off. Speaking of hardworking bands The Beatles are the all time kings. They are the only band in history that never missed a performance and that's everything from concerts during the insanity of Beatlemania, 63-66. Never missed a tv appearance, interview, never missed any engagement and I don't know how they did it. Add to that the music they were putting out between 65-66 is amazing. Two albums in 65, "Help" and "Rubber Soul" and this was during a world tour and all of the craziness surrounding them. "Revolver" in 66 plus several #1 singles during this period. "Revolver" is regarded by many as the greatest album in history, not their Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band lp. There is always debate about this and I kinda lean towards "Revolver" I remember when I was a kid and The Beatles exploded after The Ed Sullivan show that they were an overnight success, BS ! John was 17 and Paul 15 when they met and hooked up. They brought Paul's school friend George Harrison 14 yrs old 5 months later and this was in 1957. Ringo didn't complete the lineup until 62. Music historians estimate that John, Paul and George had put in around 10,000 hrs together before they recorded their first album "Please Please Me" in February, 1963. That's the definition of hardworking ! Nothing pisses me off more then when I see these young people on U Tube say "Yeah, The Beatles were the first boy band. Are you F_ _king Kidding Me? The Beatles were already professional musicians when they first stepped into the EMI recording studios. I would suggest that these idiots look up the definition of a boy band which is when some slickster producer or agent holds auditions for young boys that can sing and dance. They usually put together 5 boys that don't know each other from Adam and Eve and put them on the road. Examples that come too mind are NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys which actually sounds not half bad compared too this garbage today. There are a number of boy bands now and they suck. Name me one really great band today, you can't, they don't exist anymore. Today is nothing more than a bunch of braggadocios rappers and a bunch of lame white solo male singers whose songs suck due to no catchy riffs or bridges in their songs. What is this, 1960 again with the liked of Fabian and Frankie Avalon? Please! Cardi B can take her mumble rap and shove it, she sucks, and these young people raking in multi millions of dollars for putting out garbage. Arianna Grande has amassed over 100 million dollars in seven years. Are you kidding me. I always thought she was ok until a couple of years ago when she decided that she had too drop F Bombs in a lot of her songs too express herself and brag about her incredible sex life. Come on man, I wonder if her mother ever says, "Ariana, what are you thinking about"? Does she realize that there are a whole lot of very young girls that look up too her and listen too this trash. If I was a parent of a young girl I would be appalled and it's almost impossible to police this stuff with the internet today. Come on Ariana, you can do better then this. The Beatles never once felt the need too cuss in a song and they're they're the biggest act in entertainment history to this day 51 years after they officially split up. Let It Be is recognized as their last LP released in 1970 but "Abbey Road" released in September, 1969 id their last record together. "Let It Be" was recorded in February 1969 but not released until 70.The Beatles once tried too slip a word in on their 1965 hit "Day Tripper" the line "She's a big teaser" was written and presented too their producer as"She's a prick teaser" George Martin said you know you can't say that. Today no one would think twice about it but in 65 that was huge no no.

    The "Avant guarde" is a French term that names those who were especially ahead of their time and pushing the envelope. It's used in most of the Arts, but in Music it was particularly used in the late 1800s and early 1900s to label composers who were "out there" way beyond the normal practices of their time.

His folk lyrics pairs so well with the faster pace of rock guitar. Love me some REO Speedwagon try “Take It On The Run”. It's funny you should mention about people playing the song at their wedding. You might find this funny, I do.
    I heard an interview with Kevin Cronin who said that when people say to him they played the song at their wedding he always thinks did you listen to the rest of the song? Or did you just hear the chorus?
    It kind of speaks to infidelity and that is not really conducive to a happy marriage but, you know, to each their own. LOL!!🤣🤣🤣
