I purchased a 73 back in 78. White with white vinyl roof and red interior. Had electric sunroof which is hard to find. Sweet ride but really a cruiser not very fast like the 72. New England winters were not kind to the metal so it rotted out. Fix it but came back a year later. Also ran studded snows but did not help too much as all the weight is in the front. Sold it in 81 and lost track but will always wonder if it has a good home.
The "H"(?)bodies(Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, Cutlass & Regal)were awesome...looking, but not built very well & the workmanship was...questionable. Very typical of vehicles from this era, even the Foreign ones. I purchased a 1977 Monte Carlo(just months old)in latec1977, &...still have it. However, within 3 years(never driven in winter and kept in a climate controlled garage)the paint faded and the quarters rusted a little. Had it repainted in the late 1980s(better than G M with it)and fixed the slight rust areas. Here's the thing...NO ISSUES...SINCE. What...does *that* tell you?
I'm wondering about the hesitation on it do you guys put premium in these vehicles you know they're old do you need to run on premium they would probably not have that hesitation problem?
They run best if they are with the original points ignition one regular leaded gas, though they do pretty well on just plain unleaded ! Usually these cars have been upgraded to electronic ignition making it work perfectly on unleaded gas, no need for premium. But you might get a slightly better performance on premium.
These had factory air shocks. My 1974 had them. You could add air from behind the license plate. It was considered cool to jack the rear up and smoke the tires. My 74 was an SJ with the 455 motor. Could smoke those tires easy.
Actually the 400 Pontiac Grand Prix 400 4bbl dual exhaust, was rated 250hp at 4400 ! In 1973 it was the standard V8 for the Grand Prix ! It's one of the nicest ever made ! :) There was also the sunroof options for the Grand Prix that year. One was manual, the other one operated by an electric motor !
Canadian dealership rated the Pontiac dual exhaust 400ci 4bbl at 250hp, US spec shows 230hp, on way or another one of the powerful engine in 73 the compression ratio at 8 to 1 make it wonderful to work with regular gas ! The 4bbl when using it with the 2 small one make it a good gas mileage car ! I had a 73 Monte with a 350 4bbl when I was using the 2 primary this car was economical on gas ! I know it can be a surprising fact, but even today when I think about it I miss that car ! Besides the kick down at 80 miles per hour was nice, and reaching 115 was quick ! :) it was the the kind of orange one, with the swivel seats. Buy the way my Monte was rated at 175hp and I think it was a very conservative number.
These cars had strong torque too. My Dad had a 73 like the one shown but sat lower and had the side molding as well. All in all it was a nicer version but I would take this one in heartbeat.
The Grand Prix became..."blah" when they offered it as a 4-door model. "Pontiac's" became "blah" when they started adding all the cheesy looking plastic to them(especially...the "GrandAms"!)
not real leather seats! no G..M HAD LEATHER EXCEPT CADILLAC AND CORVETTE UNTIL 74 WHEN LEATHER WAS MADE AN OPTION ON BIG BUICK, OLDS AND RIVIERA AND TORONADO AND CERTAIN MID SIZE PERSONAL LUXURY CARS LIKE GRAN PRIX., REGAL, AND CUTLAS BROUGHAM. NO CHEVY COULD BE ORDERED WITH LEATHER OUTSIDE OF CORVETTE.

Was it a 400 or 455?
@ Was a 400 which was rated as 230 hp. Could not burn rubber on a good day.

In 73’ the wood grains were real. Forget what seats are. It’s above vinyl but not quite leather.
