Definitely proud of Cadillac for going back upmarket, as Cadillac being a cheap alternative to European saloons did not work out, since ever. I've been on the fence about the Celestiq since the reveal but I made up my mind: I think this car is cool! If they can back it up with the interior/driving tech and engineering...it could be arguably a triumphant return of American ultra luxury. A Rolls Royce (or least Maybach and Bentley) rivaling car that harkens back to cars such as the 60s Lincoln Continental.
The Celestiq definitely looks like it's worth six figures compared to the disproportionate blob that is the EQS. I know the Celestiq is going the Rolls Royce and Bentley route, but I wanted to emphasize the fact that EVs don't need to look like eggs on wheels. In fact, if all EVs were to have this shape, everything would look the same. With Cadillac and Rolls Royce going in this direction, I've come to be a little more accepting of EVs. I still prefer ICE vehicles of course.
I mean, EVs are superior in ultra-luxury vehicles where a smooth ride is favorable. ICEs start to become the favored choice in performance vehicles, where we want lightness and a good driving experience. This Cadillac and the Rolls-Royce Spectre are those ultra-luxury vehicles, and that’s where the EV powertrain really gets to shine. The smooth, quiet torque of the motors providing a seamless driving experience, and the lack of vibrations means u don’t have to smooth anything out. And because the electric motors produce little to no noise, the only sound u have to quiet is the road noise. So for a car like this Caddy, an EV powertrain is an absolute no brainier. My only surprise is that luxury brands like Cadillac and Rolls-Royce didn’t make the jump sooner
The EQS will forever be the more functional of the two since it’s bubble-blob shape gives it a crazy low drag coefficient which in turn provides amazing range. It’s really a matter of form vs. function 🤷🏾♂️
I really wish I could see this car and afford it. I like how Cadillac is also coming out with an ultimate luxury car and bring America back into that market
Yeah agreed. With top of the line Corvettes and GMC SUVs selling for well over 100k USD it was only a matter of time before GM gave Cadillac the green light to start making amazing eye wateringly expensive halo cars again.
I actually really like this, even in the rear. It gives you something to look at. I even like the blue. I wonder if MB would go in a different design direction for their EQ Maybach models because their EQ lineup leaves a lot to be desired.
Yeah me too, the rear end is just a function of needing to get the best aero performance for highway range, a lot of larger BEV sedans look like they are going with some type of shooting brake or fastback hatch design.
Yes, this is far more unique to me. As nice as they are, Maybach always just looks like an overstyled aftermarket S-Class or GLS suv. A dedicated, differentiated design language, such as you get with Bentley and Rolls Royce will always look classier than a Maybach to my eyes. This will especially be a problem if Maybach begins taking the EQ models, as they already are lacking in the proportions and design stature of most previous high-end Mercedes models. They are far too awkward and Jelly-bean shaped.
It’s not to my personal taste, but I can still admit that this vehicle has a very cool and distinctive style! I would like to see Cadillac add some styling feature as a retro homage to the big fins of the past.
Well, you have the tail lights, which are pretty wild. Federal regulations mean they can't really do fins anymore, but the interior door handle relates to what they were using in the 1960s. And don't forget the return of the Goddess.
Now that you mention that, it wouldn't surprise me if the strange rear lights on their electric models are an homage to the to the famous tail fins. Not sure it really reads that way successfully, but they could become a distinctive Cadillac element regardless
I originally thought that the rear hatch was all glass because of how the blue blends in. I was extremely excited. The styling is still rather clean and I can see easily they were going for opulence mixed with the styling of the late 70s Italians
If you consider the Celestiq as a spiritual successor to the Jensen Interceptor, the hokey stick taillights begin to make sense. Both are gorgeous grand tourers.
The car is incredible and will look like nothing else on the road...as is appropriate. When spending that kind of money, you should stand out in the most prominent way possible. I totally disagree that Cadillac has a "ways to go" before regaining its title as America's premier luxury car brand. Cadillac has made enormous strides in revamping its cars and SUVs. They are competitive with the class. They've built some of the most impressive sports sedans in the world with their V-Series cars, plus their foray into the racing segment has been notable. As for the design, let's not forget that Cadillac's origin is French and the Citreon influences in this design, along with classic Cadillac cues, make for a stellar overall design. I love it. The Celestiq IS a defining moment for Cadillac. In my opinion, there's no longer a ways to go. They've arrived. Congratulations to the design team and GM for having the audacity to build such a car. Truly ICONIC.
The "hockey stick" feels like it is there to ease non-dovetail fans into the shape. The light almost feels like it is trying to trick the eye into seeing the car as a sedan.
This is the Anti-Rolls-Royce, in that instead of being restrained and understated it is flamboyant and extravagant. It's for the very elite who want the attention. This should have been the one that debuted in gold, not the Spectre which would have also looked better in emerald, bronze, or midnight blue.
I think perhaps you’ve missed the idea of the ‘hockey stick’ rear lights - yes, it sits in contrast to the domed rear hatch, but that’s the whole point, it allows the eye to see the rear as a traditional angled rear glass with a long low trunk lid, but gives the rear aero performance & flow and interior luggage space of a hatch. I personally think this is exceptionally effective and helps to successfully camouflage the rear end design changes that I hate in EVs, I miss the classic sedan shape. I just wish Bentley or Rolls had thought of it/produced it first!
That's the point lol. There trying to get back to that. I think this is the perfect time though because the rolls is missing the v12 making it less unique
I really wish they had made this a notchback following the LED swoosh. Literally the only change I would make. Sure, it would impact range, but it would have that throwback style in spades.

Love the interior, the front and side but I have an issue with upper taillights. They could've gone with something like the 67' Eldorado, maybe more upright. I've grown to like the Lexus grille and thought I wouldn't. Maybe this will grow on me too. No matter, I don't have the cash for it.
with self driving on the horizon (maybe forever on the horizon lol) rich people are going to want super comfy cars that drive themselves. Caddy please fill that gap!
Btw, the Rolls-Royce Spectre is not groundbreaking. In fact, it looks like Rolls went back to the early sketches of the Wraith, and pulled one out, and made it.
The car looks great. I was a bit on the fence with regards to the rear however, given how Cadillacs from the 60s also had massive rear trunks I have to say its a nice nod to those Caddys and screams American land yacht.
That’s exactly what I was thinking of all people I would’ve thought he would’ve been the first to have thoughts about this. I think he he’s biased toward Cadillac. It’s like he feels Cadillac doesn’t belong in the segment. Kinda snobbish
I could articulate why I didn't like the design, but once you called it out, it's the 'hockey stick' in the rear panels that gives me pause. Something a future tweak can address.
Cadillacs had electric windows, automatic headlights (Twilight Sentinel), power door locks, cruise control and automatic climate control when RR had none of those things. Most didn't even have basic air conditioning.
Funny, Rolls Royce for the first time builds the first car I like (the Spectre), and Cadillac builds their first super luxury car (in recent times) I don't. There's just too much discontinuity going on with the rear-end. When the lines don't flow, it messes with my OCD.
This is a very bold move for Cadillac and GM. I really wonder if the brand can support a $300k+ car though. $200-250k would have probably been a more realistic target. The VW Phaeton is an example of a great car which failed to sell in significant numbers due to its high price.
6:20 I was waiting for you to get to the rear quarters. Thats where this car looses it for me in the design. I too find it odd and the upper light clashes with the overall silhouette.
I remember you making some similar remarks concerning the rear about its brothey the Lyriq, and I still completely disagree with you on that. That solution for the shape/position/angle/thickness of the main rear lights (as well as for the reflectors on the bottom, in the rear bumper) couldn't be better. Not only it creates drama, but it helps filling the immense volume that is the rear pillar in both models. Supressing that element or inverting it as you suggest would make the profile and rear views very unbalanced and look disproportionate. I have to say I'm usually not a big fan of american car design (because it repeatedly lacks design and fills that void with styling... and overstyling), but I think that this design language that Cadillac brought to these new huge luxury models is absolutely brilliant (and brilliantly executed too).
it looks epic in details - but overall it looks like an expensive Citroen. I think the Elmiraj was probably the most beautiful shape possible, and the most representative design for Cadillac. My 2 cents.
I think the hockey stick brake lights were meant to give the impression of a sedan. But, they would look alot better on a sedan style body tather than the wagon/kamback shape they went with. Still, I like it
I do actually think the blue does bring it out and the matching interior them does harken back to the older Cadillacs and it good to see Cadillac do back to actually nAming their vehicles vs short lettering them adds to the elegance. It’s almost like the movie the green book the Cadillac in the movie those grand Cadillacs came in bright colors pink , blue , yellow etc.. so I think a Cadillac of this proportions does need a unique color to add to it
Maybe it’s just me but the rear end looks longer on the production model, the concept looks better to me because it looks more muscular I guess. Just my opinion. Love the interior though. I didn’t think Cadillac had the guts to design something this bold. Great job Cadillac, although I myself will probably never afford to pay 300k for a car.
I really like everything about the design except like you said about the taillight treatment. It just bugs me that it awkwardly breaks up such a clean look
so this is Cadillac Lyric in sedan form but worth 5 times the price lol Think they could've respected the exclusivity of this design with slightly different front end than the Lyriq but it's exactly the same lol Still great looking but that hockey stick is an eyesore. Didnt work on the Lyriq and stinks here too
@@jeffwill4923 a 300k car is far from general my friend. You want to feel special buying that. Nothing is wrong with following design language but *something* should have been different about that front end to make it stand out from a 60k crossover coming down the road at night
Cadillac release date of Celestiq EV has been announced for many months. Someone must be jealous to make their announcement the same day...looking you Rolls Royce!
About the hockey stick taillight. I wasn’t sure about that either. But during the reveal video all the lights in the theatre went out, but all the lights on the car stayed on. The hockey stick taillights in the ear helped give the car the impression of an old fashioned 3-box silhouette. When I saw that a big grin went across my face. It was then that I believe I figured out the “purpose” of the hockey stick twilight: to cast a false silhouette of a 3-box sedan inside a 2-box hatchback. So, I came to like that. As for the garish blue: I agree. That’s not a good color for the car. I suppose Cadillac did this to signal to prospective buyers that “yes, you can have this car anyway you want it even in this garish blue color.” Maybe. I am not sure. As far as comparison to the Spectre. I don’t think, beyond the spec sheet, that these cars actually compare to each other because the designs are light years apart. If you are interested in the Celestiq, your not likely to care about the Spectre and vice versa because the Spectre and the Celestiq look a century apart. They go in complete different. The Spectre is very classic rolls Royce aesthetic, and the Celestiq is very high tech contemporary aesthetic. Very different buyers for these cars.
Question. Why is every car manufacturer trying to emulate cars from CyberPunk or can you only go one way as a car designer. There just seems to be no originality what so ever with car brands!?
I'd like to hear you compare it to the Rolls Royce Spectre and Hyundai Grandeur. Interesting they all three reveal this week and share some similar lines and proportions.
I heard this car got active Arrow there's a spoiler that rises up at high speeds from the rare truck deck area from what I heard, and their's speaker 🔊 three of them out of the 42 speakers that outside the car too Amplified the electric motor noise. Probably going to sound similar to the Buick Wildcat concept car , if you watch Supercar Blondie one of her videos she's driving the Buick Wildcat concept and it makes noise when she was driving it ,its very dark a futuristic UFO sound wish I really like, if that sound is on this Cadillac when you drive it ,that's insane
It looks great, agreed with the ‘hockey stick’ after the c pillar, looks out of place, but the true question is: this thing marks the return of the Station Wagons? Because proportions and stance, it looks like one.
The rear end kills this car off top. Not just the taillights but it's the roof line that doesn't match the sharp lines that are present in most of the design, it's should've been sharply slanted instead of curved. That hockey stick taillight could've been like a flying buttress (similar to the murciealgos fins) instead of just stuck on the d pillar with no thought to it. Cadillac as always does a good job of having cool elements but never really putting it all together to make a great design.
People talking about it want sale don't know money cause people with it want the new and exclusive products if the quality is there and customer service is on point it'll do what it was designed for bring the brand up and return it to the standard of the world you want see one on every block but if you do see one you want forget it love or hate it you can't not look at it
They could had make something way more elegant, timeless and Aston Martin/maybach worth (Ex: Escala, Elmiraj, Sixteen) instead of this. The Lyriq/Celestiq design language look like it will age horribly. The Wayne Cherry and Bob Boniface design periods are the best Cadillac could have on the recent decades.
I think this investment by Cadillac was a costly mistake, since it costs at least $340K and is electric. Here in America, hardly anyone wants an EV, not even the cheapest ones, so I think it would’ve been better if it matched the Fleetwood, which was traditionally American. In order to be traditionally American, three changes are needed, those being a V8, RWD and a true sedan body.
This is the result when you push designer that has no idea where they will end up to the limit! Nice yeah kind in one point but the overall design isn’t quite like wow I will cancel my Rolls Royce order to buy this that is new but I still don’t get de line of it sedan or hatchback 🤔
I think I'm starting to like it, but seeing it in the real-world will certainly clear things up. it looks epic in details - but overall it looks like an expensive Citroen.
Still, I like it
Cyberpunk 2077 hell yeah. CADILLAC AT IT
I do actually think the blue does bring it out and the matching interior them does harken back to the older Cadillacs and it good to see Cadillac do back to actually nAming their vehicles vs short lettering them adds to the elegance. It’s almost like the movie the green book the Cadillac in the movie those grand Cadillacs came in bright colors pink , blue , yellow etc.. so I think a Cadillac of this proportions does need a unique color to add to it
My first impression of the car is I do not like the rear roof line at all.
It just bugs me that it awkwardly breaks up such a clean look
so this is Cadillac Lyric in sedan form but worth 5 times the price lol
Think they could've respected the exclusivity of this design with slightly different front end than the Lyriq but it's exactly the same lol
Still great looking but that hockey stick is an eyesore. Didnt work on the Lyriq and stinks here too
Yes, why would it not be? Lyric is their first major ev. They general follow a design of recent model released in front.
@@jeffwill4923 a 300k car is far from general my friend. You want to feel special buying that.
Nothing is wrong with following design language but *something* should have been different about that front end to make it stand out from a 60k crossover coming down the road at night
@@gnerd07 Thats your opinion. We just disagree. The rear design points back to their early yrs. Did any of those vehicles cost 300k??
@@jeffwill4923 nothing about that rear end points back to any Cadillac in history. Name it cause I could be wrong.
@@jstun2318 The rear was mentioned in video I watched. Where they pointed to a designer in 30's.
Cadillac release date of Celestiq EV has been announced for many months. Someone must be jealous to make their announcement the same day...looking you Rolls Royce!
Is this what a station wagon with a sloped back would look like?
No
Looks like the car got a swift kick in the butt and it still it hasn't recovered !
The Celestiq is long, obnoxious, and screams excess. Which means Cadillac is back.
Exactly what the name Cadillac always used to stand for.
looks like a squished and stretched Lyriq.
Question. Why is every car manufacturer trying to emulate cars from CyberPunk or can you only go one way as a car designer. There just seems to be no originality what so ever with car brands!?
Ugly golf cart that's going to depreciate like a rock.
I'd like to hear you compare it to the Rolls Royce Spectre and Hyundai Grandeur. Interesting they all three reveal this week and share some similar lines and proportions.
The front looks Nice, the back... Man those tail lights forms dont have a purpose
The rear half is like a Jenson Interceptor
I think the flagship should have had a traditional backend verses a wagon
I heard this car got active Arrow there's a spoiler that rises up at high speeds from the rare truck deck area from what I heard, and their's speaker 🔊 three of them out of the 42 speakers that outside the car too Amplified the electric motor noise. Probably going to sound similar to the Buick Wildcat concept car , if you watch Supercar Blondie one of her videos she's driving the Buick Wildcat concept and it makes noise when she was driving it ,its very dark a futuristic UFO sound wish I really like, if that sound is on this Cadillac when you drive it ,that's insane
What are they naming the Chevy version?
Does this have the rear clamshell window?
Are you nuts? There's no "Chevy version" of a hand built custom commissioned Cadillac..
The hind quarters look odd to me, huge rear overhang. I would never buy this. Appreciate the video.
The rear design is an aberration, bmwesque, you could say.
You should look at the 1949 Cadillac Sedanette. 1949 was the last year Cadillac did a fastback.
It looks great, agreed with the ‘hockey stick’ after the c pillar, looks out of place, but the true question is: this thing marks the return of the Station Wagons? Because proportions and stance, it looks like one.
It absolutely does not look like a station wagon…no more than an Audi A7 does. It’s a fast back meant for better air flow and mileage per charge
It's a fastback that looks nothing at all like a station wagon.
I hate the new Cadillac electric vehicles. Especially from the back
the hatchback design looks vary odd....it would look much better as a three-box notchback.
Brilliant!!!
People talking about it want sale don't know money cause people with it want the new and exclusive products if the quality is there and customer service is on point it'll do what it was designed for bring the brand up and return it to the standard of the world you want see one on every block but if you do see one you want forget it love or hate it you can't not look at it
On the concept the rims look nice, but for the production model it looks a bit obscure 😅
I wonder about that spoiler that rises up from the trunk deck area if that's true this car wow
Theres a reason why most cars dont come with proper stance... stone chips
There would be SO much damage to our own cars and others on the road
I hope they put this as a concept and a few years later they make it terrible 😆
I don't like the rear end. And the whole thing looks too similar to the Lyriq. I'd just get a Lyriq and save myself $220k.
It has the same design theme.
There will be probably most of these in DC...🤷♂️
This is the result when you push designer that has no idea where they will end up to the limit! Nice yeah kind in one point but the overall design isn’t quite like wow I will cancel my Rolls Royce order to buy this that is new but I still don’t get de line of it sedan or hatchback 🤔
I'm sorry but let's not pretend the design would he any different if it was a ice car. The lights on the roof still look awkward
