      I also don't understand why they were separated at the time limit, the submission was locked on and it was clearly stated in the Rule #3 of their match's special set of rules (flashed on after their bio/stats were shown on the telecast) that the "time will not end if the submission is close."
      I know that its debatable if Royler would have submitted (he probably would not truth be told and would have let his leg be damaged), but whats not debatable is that submission was locked on, and Royler was having difficulties to escape.

      During the Ryron x Galvao match in the previous Metamoris they were all about "Ryron's keeping it so playfull!" while Galvao dominated.
      And now that Eddie and his true, original "Keep it playfull." attitude and technique that brought so many innovations to BJJ was used to literally neutralize Roylers game and hang him out to dry in front of the world, they're falling back on "We're proponents of the what's effective in a street fight." mentality.

      You should read how Royce went ape shit after Robin Gracie lost a fight to Damien Riccio back in 2003. Royce's email had info. like, the blood that was on Robin's shirt was the other guy and not Robin's. Implying Robin did not lose, and wrote down, that Damien was talking shit about the Gracie family and Brazilians. No real evidence of this before Royce made this statement on his email.
      Fast forward to 2014. Royler Gracie vs Eddie Bravo rematch. Royler may not have been submitted, but clearly lost the fight in the other aspects and all he did was survive the match and did not come close to submitting Eddie even once. The official outcome was a draw, due to the Metamoris rules. After the match Eddie threw up, Royce says, the reason Eddie was throwing up, was because Royler dominated him in the match. Royce gets in Eddie's face and says Eddie has been talking shit about him and the Gracie family. Again with no real evidence.
      It seems Royce uses the same pretext on rationalizing his own juvenile behavior. It is disappointing, as he was one I looked up to in the sport when I was growing up and wanted him to win over Matt Hughes. When Royce tested positive for steroids with both of his samples and denied it, showed his dishonest character some more.

    it's amazing being a fan of both teams but how biased the Gracie breakdown is. After watching the Joe Rogan podcast, i must agree that eddie got the best of this guy. You guys in your commentary make it seem that Royler dominated the whole match and was never in trouble. Eddie seemed a lot more realistic about the breakdown of his fight. This family pushed a modern revolution in martial arts. Sure, they're fiercely competitive and are intensely loyal, but that's what got us here in the first place. In my mind, the Gracie's are free to do what they want and so are you to make up your own opinion. I just think it's a little small-minded to call out an entire family in a field you know nothing about, which created the field of battle in the first place.
      How about the fact that Renzo trains GSP, Frankie Edgar, Chris Wiedman, Matt Serra and the list goes on. The Gracies are CHAMPIONS and we are not. Who are we to judge.

    Obviously very biased, I've lost a lot of respect for both of you. You spent 6.5 minutes actually "breaking down" the 20 minute Gracie vs Bravo match. During which Ryron is wincing when Rener is just holding him in the vaporizor position without any pressure.
    Then you spend the next 20 minutes trying to convince us that Bravo's dominate performance wasn't based on sound principles. That Bravo Jui Jitsu isn't actually superior to Gracie Jui Jitsu, even though on Saturday night, it did seem to be the case. You are trying to put a positive spin on an exposed weakness in Royler's technique.
    It seem petty and small coming from respectable men.

    They really glossed over how effective and dominant Eddie was. He jumped half guard, battled for a bit but eventually swept, got side control, got a neck crank, almost got the back, lost position and instantly went back to playing his half guard game, swept again, Royler pushed him back and Eddie just pulls half guard again, with 5:51 left that's the 3rd sweep, Royler pushes him back off into that deep half guard and this time Eddie gets Roylers leg over to the other side and turns the other way and sweeps him again (5:32 left on timestamp, 4th sweep) and is already trying to dive for the foot. They reset and Eddie rolls for the 'vaporiser', and usually if it doesn't work Eddie would take his right foot and stomp on his own left foot to dig his shin further under Royler's knee, but as you can see by the whole final sequence, Royler was grabbing Eddie's gi pants stopping him from doing that. I mean it's very difficult to deny that pretty much all the offense came from Eddie, and Eddie imposed his jiu jitsu game 100%.

    • @Alchemistic88
      @Alchemistic88 10 лет назад +1

      Sweeping him back meaning pushing him and allowing Eddie to get right back into the lockdown to do it again? And when its sport jiu jitsu we talk sport jiu jitsu. You dont talk shot about Mayweathers boxing by saying it wouldnt work against a wrestler in a real fight. Talk in terms of the rules. Eddie pulled half guard as soon as Royler was got him over. Eddie works off his back, everyone knows that.

      @Alchemistic88 10 лет назад

      Kinosis79 How can you call what Royler did 'sweeping'? First one Eddie fell off when trying to take the back, and the others was Eddie losing position and deciding himself to go back to lockdown half guard and electric chair sweeping. The whole Royler- Eddie back and forth was part of Royler's effort to stop Eddie's electric chairs, and ultimately failure every time. The best position Royler got was quarter guard and even then he couldn't pass to side control once. What are you talking about ?!

    I feel we owe the Gracie's everything when in comes to the MMA we now enjoy. All respect to the Gracie family and the founding father, the great Helio Gracie and the legendary Royce. We are forever in your debt. For this particular event, for the rules put in place (Eddie not being able to grab Royler's shorts but Royler being able to grab Eddie's pants and the automatic draw at the end of the time limit) and the way Royce confronted Eddie afterwards, this was an embarrassing moment for the Gracie family. The fight between Royler and Eddie was the fight of the century and Royler is a warrior and deserves full respect; however, if there were real rules, Eddie would be the clear winner and I feel more respect should be given to Eddie.

    What a shame...you guys chose to downplay Eddie's clearly dominant performance into a garbage analysis that discredits his skill. And what was with the going off on a tangent about street or competition applicable techniques? The match was in competition and most if not all of the breakdowns are of competitions in sanctioned events. It was a Jiu Jitsu match, not an mma match...why bring up punches? WTF completely biased and not objective at all.

Rener is cool with eddie so I doubt he meant any harm, and it wasn't that bad but just a bit..to much talking about street situations when usually we hear these kind of comments from armatures who talk shit about grappling/jj.

    Translation: "a Gracie was dominated, but we have our own style making us the real victors". Blah blah blah. Just admit Eddie dominated him with his style and appreciate it. Stop talking circles around it. Eddie's style is used in MMA too. They hate to give him credit though, as well as giving the Japanese credit. This is not a "breakdown". This is being proud of being dominated by claiming the Gracie style was still in tact. That's ignoring the fact that Eddie's style dominated the Gracie style and how it did so.

Other fights he had was a mismatch of rules,some put catch type fights with jacket or no jacket,some open palm strikes only with grapple some just throws and win,vale tudo he didn't do.
      3) It was literally removed when Kano decided to send out the 7 PILLARs of the Kudokan (aka all the newaza specialist) in the bio the author stated that he hit two bird with one stone 1) He knew the guys where hard to beat so good ambassadors for judo to the world 2) he got the main newaza guys out so he could do his adjustment.

      @JudoMateo 10 лет назад +4

      Kalika Putra 1. Judo IS the most practiced Martial Art in the world it's been converting people who practice Judo for as long as it has existed(longer than BJJ). 2. Ne Waza is still practiced by many many Judoka(I've beaten a BJJ guy on the ground a time or two.), in many Dojos the level of ground fighting is very high and Arm Bars and chokes end matches at all levels of competition watch some matches. Many people still think Eagle Crane is best(not me)!

    • @kalikaputra
      @kalikaputra 10 лет назад

      JudoMateo 1) Most practiced in the world means nothing,just means your art got watered down for spectator viewing and sponsor ship compare pre 1960 mainstream judo to today judo to see that. So the argument that it is the most practice doesn't mean anything> I can drive from the centre of sydney to the suburbs a distance of 30 km one one main artery and see heaps of kung fu bjj,kapkido and boxing schools, not one judo.
      2)Yes lots of people in judo still do newaza,never said they dont,but if you sport is whored out to the olympics and adjusted for viewing pleasure then people will be drilling the stuff you need to win those comps more. I teach and fight under one of the most successful mauy thai,bjj,mma and boxing teams here and have thus sparred with numerous high level,means Olympic level judo guys,that means black belts,hell one recently qualified to represent australia in the next commonwealth and olympic games and he also has black belt in bjj and I have brown 4 stripes. I never had trouble with them.My students dont have trouble with them.not because I am better because their focus is different.
      3) this judo this bjj this talk is all bullshit,its all jujitsu and I never studied bjj at a gracie owned or affiliated school but still I have respect for them for sharing there art,why would anyone bag them out? Take this video eddie bravo learnt from jj machado whose mother was a gracie,who trained with gracies. Why all the hate for? Where else we can get good newwaza other than going to learn kosen in japan which is very expensive and filled with bigotry. Not thanks I will give thanks where it s due,my judo is through the roof because they maintained newaza,wy on earth anyone would bag them is beyond comprehension. have you family done anything for your sport? have your uncles? your grand dad? They can say that,respect that,if not you are not worth your go you put on your back.

He clearly understood the rules of the tournament and figured out the best way of controlling and potentially submitting his opponent with his creative techniques. Eddie Bravo was a step ahead of Royler at every turn.

    hate to break this to you guys but Royler got dominated.. like.. it isn't even open for debate had it not been a submission only tourney he was losing the decision bad. He had a solid 5 or 6 submissions attempted against him during the whole time and if my memory's good he didn't threaten Bravo with a single one. Time to show sportsmanship and admit the loss.
    The Gracie family took JJ and perfected it to an unprecedented level. The whole family was denied no praises for that and will always be a defining name in martial arts. But you guys also seem to have a real hard time accepting that maybe someone else is taking the discipline to new levels. Instead of opposing that, you should applaud that and thank people like Eddie Bravo who contribute to the sport your family has contributed also. Opposing that is futile and is just bad for the Gracie name.
    Because don't fool yourself. You can keep trying to avoid it and deny it, but everyone saw it for themselves and you'll have a real hard time finding anyone who isn't either a Gracie or a real diehard fan of the Gracie family that thinks Royler didn't lose that bout.

Viewing this match the way most jiu-jitsu competitions are scored when there isn't a submission makes sense. If you're going to bring up striking we may as well compare who had the better haircut. Also, even if we only look at this match as submission only, who was the one applying the most submissions during this match and was closest to finishing the fight? Eddie.

    Why are the Gracie brothers always preaching about respect and being humble but when Royler gets visibly dominated by a unique style of jiujitsu our very own Rener and Ryron refuse to pay Eddie Bravo the respect he deserves. Eddie Bravo got in there and dominated Royler Gracie and Royler as good as he is barely made it out of that match walking on two legs. I love Royler and Eddie but give respect where respect is due. I would like to see the Gracie Brothers be more objective when they analyze different styles of jiujitsu. There are strengths to every style. That being said.. I think Royler is incredible. ***** What I took away from their explanation of the "filter" was that the berimbolo and the lockdown, etc are all nice techniques. It's just that newbies need to be aware that you could spend years perfecting certain flashy styles but if you don't have the proper attributes that allow them to work, you won't be effective and you will waste time. Or you could get smashed by a larger opponent in a street fight.
      Over the years I've seen the BJJ community have that shiny ball mentality and the newbies just keep puttering along aimlessly because they think a new move that worked for this one champion will be their answer to getting better. They get frustrated and you never see them again. Ryron and Rener are trying to appeal to those people. They're not trying to appeal to the crowd that toughs it out and stays in BJJ competition.

    The lockdown and eletric chair was recently used and displayed on Inside MMA and a fighter tapped another fighter out with it instead of using it as a sweep. It can work and the double underhooks with the lockdown make it so effective. Eddie created his system for mma and is more effective than your normal bjj techniques for taking less punishment.
