The runes are Tiwaz (the "up arrow"), Berkana (the angular B), and Gebu (the "X") so TBG in Latin alphabet. Nice touch. Ekaterina is a Valkyrie! Beautiful voice, enchanting eyes, hypnotic arm movements. According to Peter, her name is pronounced "EE-kat-uh-REE-nah." She's Russian-born, grew up in Canada (thus her lack of a Russian accent), performs opera in Canada and Italy, where she was on Italia's Got Talent and went viral for her soprano and throat singing skills. She's the lead singer of the French new age group Era.
For me, this is their most haunting and beautiful song. Ekaterina's voice is so ethereal as a counterpoint to their lows. And visually, I love the shadow dance movements by her. I think Peter's arrangement is spectacular!
This was Peter's baby and there is no reason to have to guess why...That was extraordinary! They are Vikings and she is kind of like a Valkyrie. Her singing is epic and the boys are singing on a whole new level. WOW!!! The "tattoo" is in the language from the show and yes, it stands for The Bass Gang.
The whistle notes in the one part you questioned was Ekaterina. According to Peter, who arranged this, there was a total of 200+ total vocal tracks in the whole song. There are a wild amount of layered vocals.
I love this. I appreciate your comment on the digeridoo (sp?) When I first heard it that was what I thought. I had a good friend who was learning to play that instrument when she passed. I appreciate your comments on it. The depth and complexity of this song is amazing.
Marwan is using a technique like Tuvan Throat Singing, and it involves overtones over a bass drone. I believe Peter said Marwan's been experimenting with it for a while. :)
Another wildly different song from the Bass Gang! This was brilliant. Thank you so much for this reaction DJ, always a joy to see you enjoying a song like this! Something so different is always great to have on the channel! #HerdLove
Peter Barber, the one who arranged this, said that F1 bass note all 4 of them drop, is actually played through the whole song, just tweaked so it seems to "cut out" occasionally
A stunning piece of work by TBG and Ekatarina. Peter did an amzaing production job and Marwan a fantastic video edit. I believe Ekatarina is an opera singer? She does have her own YT channel and has been interviewed by Peter on his. I've not watched the interview but I have watched his reaction to the video, where he talks about producing this. Worth a watch! He said about 150 vocal layers were used in all!
Yeah both Peter and Marwan had TBG in Norse runes painted on and, if you look very closely, Tomi has the runes shaved into the hair on his right side. The Digeridoo sounds were Marwan singing overtones.
Actually Marwan is overtone singing in that one digeridoo part - which is even crazier. Means he's singing two notes at the same time. Plus all the layers in this is NUTS. The whistletone is Ekaterina, yes.
I didn't recognise the song title and thought it must be in an episode I haven't got to yet. It's the opening theme. I've heard it in *every* episode and still didn't twig until it started.
Yes, the rune you pointed out stands for "The Bass Gang" (or so I'm told, I don't read runes myself, so if my source is right, that does stand for "The Bass Gang"). Ekaterina is an opera singer (a coloratura soprano--the highest soprano voice, think Kate Lott in Voctave). Don't know if you've heard (since you didn't mention it), but Austin Brown has announced he is leaving Home Free to pursue a solo career.
some of the things she's doing with her voice reminds me of Maria Franz from Heilung (Also please check out Anoana, or norupo of theirs) lol the epic rap battles of history reference yep... maybe a little bit. I know what you are getting at there DJ
They layered her voice in the part you mentioned. She is actually an Opera Singer and a friend of Peter's. The runes do spell TBG which is a really nice touch. Here is a link to one of her covers that I really like ruclips.net/video/tegev08KyHY/видео.html

Tomi is able to do whistle notes as well though, to be clear.
Listen to that E1 from all 4 of them. That should get your attention.
This may prove that you can never have too much bass. Peter's reaction to this is very informative, too.
That is all four of them doing a bass note at the same time. AND IT GOES ON ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE END, TOO.
Also known as a drone, like a bagpipe
I really enjoy your enthusiasm. And of course, the Bass Gang and Ekaterina provide a lot to be enthusiastic about! Thanks for sharing! 😊

Peter made so many exceptional choices in this arrangement and Marwan made an incredible video.

Check out Ekaterina's version of 'Savage Daughter'.
These boys bet better and better with every songs and Ekaterina has the voice of an angel.
This is a Peter Hollens level layering masterpiece, and Ekaterina is amazing.

I love when you react to The Bass Gang!! They just keep getting better and better.
She is a coloraturo soprano, so a soprano, soprano, soprano. Studied opera at a conservatory in Italy.
Peter Barber, the one who arranged this, said that F1 bass note all 4 of them drop, is actually played through the whole song, just tweaked so it seems to "cut out" occasionally
Awaiting DJ's reaction.
Bass Gang really impressed me.
Marwan's overtone singing was impressive and lent a very otherworldly flavor.

❤ DJ you are awesome!! And yes let them attack you with amazingness. Grrrrrrrawr this is beautiful 🥰

Voiceplay just released their new video.... Sleeping In The Cold.
It is literally out of this world fantastic.

New voiceplay and geoff videos out!!!
I don't know at the moment I'm typing this if you noticed this, yet, but Tomi has the TBG runes shaved into the side of his head. :)
❤

Just watched a video Austin Brown is leaving HomeFree to start a family.
The "X" rune is "gebo" and it indeed represents the sound of a hard "G."

Wow you got the first name not too badly at all and butchered her last name, most people oddly are the other way around. Valiant attempt though!
She grew up in Canada
