Just a suggestion if you decided you want to live stream the wedding. Get someone else to do it for you. You need to be able to enjoy the moment and not have to look at it through a tiny monitor or scurry around behind the scenes. Enjoy the special moment!
Hiring a drywaller was a good call. You can obviously DIY a lot really well, but trades like that take years to perfect technique. The speed and efficiency they move at - totally a cost effective move. Nice work guys. I admire your work ethic.
Oh my goodness, it was relief to ME that you hired out the sheetrocking! Not because I didn't want to watch you do it, but because you guys NEEDED that breathing room. Now you can move on to the more FUN stuff!
Extremely smart decision to have the drywall done by a professional crew. When I think about the vaulted ceiling and the long term (3-4 months) I dustiness, not to mention all of the other jobs that need to get done, it seems like a no brainer if the budget wouldn't be busted. God bless y'all!
For island, have a little door at entrance and hinge/balance the countertop. Little door can hold countertop down to keep it popping up during use. Open little door, lift countertop and proceed to root cellar.
100% great decision. I support you. You've already proven to us you're fully capable of doing the work, no one doubts you. If you can afford it, hire it out. Creates jobs in the community. And once you finish the home, allows you to focus on the rest of the homestead, and eventually frees up time to put back into helping the community. You've been building the house for so many years now, might be time to wrap up the build and focus on where to go from here next.
I binged the whole house build playlist this weekend, and I think you did a great job getting it done. I did notice a few things that would never pass inspection here in Texas but that's also a reason I want to move. Keep em coming. God Bless and have a great year! 😁😁😁😁
If you don't have any type of utilities going into the top of the island i think it would be cool to have a hinge on one side and some type of hydraulic hinge to assist lifting up the other side for easy access to the root cellar.
When using Great Stuff foam around doors and windows you should use the blue can that is specifically for them. It has a smaller tip and doesn't expand so much, fast or hard as the red can. Using the red can near doors and windows can actually make the sides bow enough to knock them out of alignment causing them not to close correctly
I like to use notes for keeping track of my mowers and generators' parts servicing and time and hours meters on them . as well as project info like solar changes and updates maintains
For the air ducts you're going to do, line the underside of the drywall with the silver vapor barrier because any moisture in the air will settle into and be absorbed by the drywall that can cause mold. Also where you're putting them make sure they panels are removable so you can clean the run yearly
Sooooo glad you hired out the sheetrock. And the job they did looks very professionally done. You should give that crew a shout out. The new layout looks fantastic.
I'm so relieved y'all hired the drywall out. It looks great and it's so exciting that the main house is finally getting finished. Great job! Exciting stuff for Seth too!
Just watched your video again with my wife and she loves the house great job. We love your videos. Marty you should be extremely happy that you where in position to have the sheet rock done by others, besides in the words of my wife, you have a beautiful wife and family and you have all worked so hard you deserve the break from that task. Weddings are a celebration of life and we hope that everything works out so it is exactly as you hope. We are honored that you would share the wedding with us, your viewers. We are older and just love seeing your goals come to be. God bless.
Hi Marty and Jules hiring people to do the drywall is the best idea. Specially doing the ceiling it would drive you crazy because you don’t have the tools to do it. These guys are professional and they will get it done. Nice and smooth and you will not see the noise. keep up the good work, Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia from the big island
Have you asked the "Lady of The Day" (Sarah) if she wants to have her wedding live-streamed? I would love to attend vicariously, but that should be primarily the brides call (with minor input from the groom 🤣🤣 ) The build is looking GREAT! You've already proven you CAN hang sheet-rock Martin, after insulation I think that is my least favorite part of any renovation/construction work. No reason not to let some pros do it as long as it's in the budget, especially given how high that ceiling peak is in the great room! Martin, Julie and Seth. I'm a veteran myself (USN, got out in 84) and to be honest I've tried to steer my relatives away from the military given the direction the "leadership" has been heading over the last 20+ years. Please note, I am _NOT_ singling out the current leadership, or the previous. It's been an overall trend (since Reagan IMO) in a direction I doubt any believer wants to go.
I’m glad you hired the drywall done! What a blessing! We would love to see Sarah’s wedding video, but I think a live stream would be too much for you on such an important day. ❤
Yes yes yes yes yes, on the live stream wedding! Please note: give us plenty of prior notice so we don't miss a thing. Yah!!!!!! Looking forward to seeing the wedding weather live stream or just a two hour video. Note, the two hour video part. Four 30 min. Vids will work too. Just saying. You guys have such great senses of humor that I hope there is some cake in the face portions included. Lol! Love y'all and God bless!
I’m sure all your subscribers would love to see Sarah getting married to Collin on livestream (myself included. However that IS a very “personal” family event! Although if y’all decide to live-stream it, I’ll do my best be be here watching to support the happy couple. Sarah seems to have chosen very well with Collin, so yay Sarah, GRATZ!
I was rehabbing my house myself and discovered late in the game that I was running out of time to get it done so my family could move in. I used to be a carpenter and I had my friend and old boss helping me out on it. He hooked me up with his sheet-rocking sub-contractor, and they hung that Canadian white pine like no tomorrow. Fast, efficient, and well done! Saved me over a week in time, not to mention mudding it. Family first Marty! Congrats to Sarah and her beau!!!
Live stream the wedding. We all feel like we are part of your family and your build. The sheet rock looks awesome. With Sarah's wedding day soon arriving, Julie will be busy getting ready for that and sheet rock would have been crazy.
BIG TIP: Before you paint, check for steel nails where sheet rock screws should be. Many contractors use two or three nails at the top of the sheets to hold them up, then finish with screws. I had a house that had over 100 nails pop out at the top of walls. I ended up spending days and hundreds of bucks fixing the nail pops and painting my interior.
I also use an app for notes on my phone. Among other things, as you mentioned, I also keep utility account numbers on a list as well as the model # and serial # of our major appliances, the VIN #'s of my vehicles, lawn tractor part numbers like oil & air filters, spark plugs, and fuel filters. Saves a lot of searching and guesswork when trying to get service or buy parts.
WOW Congrats to the beautiful couple! And to have the wedding at home where both have memories there. Blessings! (And YES for live streaming and showing off your beautiful house.)
I'm so glad that you hire the professionals to do the sheet rock. It was a very good decision. It look beautiful. Now you can concentrate on something else. 👏👏👏
Please, please, please include us in the wedding. We may be across the pond, but wouldn't miss it for the world. Wise decision you made regarding the sheet rock. God bless you ALL from the UK.
It was a pleasure meeting y'all when you were at the Freed lectures! I love watching your build and Sarah is an awesome kid! I look forward to the next time y'all grab coffee down here!

Thrive Life and others make can organizers that are a first in first out (FIFO) system. I've got one under my stairs, it holds something like 300 cans. They come in different sizes, and the FIFO system will help you with tracking the age of the cans. As for the sheetrock, there's just some jobs you want to hire out to save time.

just a thought about your air box idea. Maybe look at just where you want the most airflow and build a deflector inside the closet box area to achieve that as air will flow throw the path of least resistance
