Have you guys thought about taping your exteriror seams? I mean, if you aren't retaining heat, closing holes makes a big difference. Insulation will help too, but stopping the loss of the warm air at the first hard layer is a huge benefit. Just a suggestion.
I've heard of it happening, but this is the first time it's happened to me, that I know of. I was apparently unsubscribed from the channel. Luckily, I caught it. Good to be back.
A commercial electrical contractor friend told me about the variety of inspectors you encounter after being in the business for many years. One of his contractor friends became familiar with one particular inspector who had to find something wrong even when everything is correct. He dealt with that by deliberately making something wrong that was front and center and easy to fix. He said once the inspector found his "something wrong", he was happy and on his way.
I've never seen an electrical panel wired so neatly. Well done Martin! And the progress of the insulation must've been great as you could feel the warmth getting nicer and nicer
Hi Martin and family. Wanted to ask were did "keep smiling" come from. Hearing it and experiencing you and your families calm demeanour is incredibly heartwarming. It's really inspiring and a calm I'd love to have I'm my life.
Love watching you all. I would encourage you to twist wires together before you put a wire nut on then. Big pet peeve for electricians. Get you a good set of lineman pliers.
With the whole family there working, you all got so much done. There is so much love in your house and it is so beautiful. God bless you as you work together and travel on the roads.❤❤❤
3:50 They make a green wire nut with a hole in the end designed for that application you basically keep one ground long and twist the rest up. The also make crimps to tie the grounds once they are twisted.
It's great watching the four of you work on the house. I can only imagine how much time it saves you having the kids home and working on the projects. Great job guys, so can't wait to see the finished house . You guys are going to enjoy it I'm sure.
Definitely make sure to foam around floor and ceiling penetrations and the garage to living spaces. Wires pipes and open cracks (bigger than a nickel) or open holes
Love the family vib!! This country needs more of exactly this. The family home built by family is the strongest structure under the lord! Huge thumbs up here in Oklahoma!!
I will say as a Texas electrician that inspector was strict. Having the romex there and stapled and grounds rounds and all those others things but usually the wiring I’ve at least seen in my area we do all the actual landing after inspection
Words of wisdom, you should install a sub-panel now. You will be so happy you did later. Most likely, you should have added a sub-panel earlier and shortened those horizontal home runs in the wall. They looked like maybe they were kind of long. It would have been cheaper and faster.
Good day. Thanks for the update on EcoFlow. I’m in the process of getting my Delta 2 setup, it’s looking good. Happiest to see the installation of the insulation going in. But your house will be the warmest for sure. Your into the winter 🥶 months stay warm!
Great progress! Like so many times in life 3 steps forward and one step back. Sometimes there are reasons for processes and other times it's personal preferences...but as in the word ..."everything with prayer and supplication." My wife and I so enjoy watching you and your family building your dreams together with all the joy and excitement emanating from your character. God bless and keep you and yours always.
Should have taped the exterior sheathing. I can see the light coming in. The exterior tyvek can rip, get holes & you have a source for heat loss. Ideally cauking every exterior wall stud also helps reduce air leakage. Also caulk every wall pentration, including plumbing & electrical using fire caulk. Not only for fire but also to prevent mice having access between your walls.
Since you already have the Tyvek up, Caulk the exposed shealthing joints from the inside for air sealing. This will also help prevent insects getting inside your walls.
A robotic snow blower! Great idea. Send one to Jeremy Renner when they're done. Great family - by the way. Great workers. Doesn't seem to be a complainer in the bunch. And not a bad word about the inspectors!
I don't know about Idaho but in Oklahoma and Texas we always twisted the grounds together leaving 1 longer than the rest without a scotchlock. We've had scotchlocks come loose, why, I can't tell you. Our panels had to always breaking trimmed out before the inspection. Inspectors like neat panels. They never cared how neat the wires were run through the house but they did like a neat organized panel. Panel looked awesome ,good job!
I just used the R23 Thermafiber for my bedroom. I had to fur out the 2x4 walls to 2x6 too. I also used a 1 inch R6 radiant barrier on the outside. Now I'll be ready for those few days it freezes in south Texas 😁
Iam so HAPPY the insulation is back up! I'm sure you will pass next electrical and plumbing inspection! It's gonna be nice watching everyone much warmer, working! I still never got an answer why one step on the back is not covered!? Is it for grandkids to take snacks while visiting? 😊 🤗
Jim Jamieson in the uk all earth wires have to be sheathed with green/yellow pvc sheathing to prevent shorting to the supply conductors why does this not happen in the US
I love how Idaho makes up there own code. I'm licensed here and failed first job for no pigtails. Nowhere in the nec code or Idaho code says that has to be done for rough in.
It's not to late you can go back and fix it. You alway twist all your Electrical first and then you twist your Wire Nut last ! She did not do that, She put the Ground Wire in the wire Nut then twisted it .
Blessings Bro. Marty I commend you and your wife on the fabulous work you have accomplished. I would suggest that you add a diesel heater to your energy grid shed and to the garage. You could use a recycle oil heater also set it for 40 degrees and it will keep those areas warner than freezing and you will not have to worthy about both you batteries nor having water freeze going through your waste pipes if you put one of these heaters in your basement /crawl space it would help to not need so much wood because many of the spaces would be somewhat conditioned... You could also consider a boiler to warm the floors since heat rises. Again I truly think your family is doing such a wonderful job on your homestead!
Good morning you guys how you guys know today the secondary just snowed in he's doing okay so keep up the good work where is the sunshine solar almost done 👍 how are the chickens all the chickens are doing okay keep an eye on it you guys have a great day ❤️😾💔💪👍
Whenever you are wiring outlets, leave some slack wire in the wall cavity (“rabbit ears”)so that if you ever need to rewire it you don’t have to pull a whole new run, you can just use a bit of the slack. Will save you a heap of work sometime in the future.
This may sound obvious, but you will need to be very careful removing those wire staples. You don't want to pierce the wire insulation. Don't ask my how I know! 😃
It would've been just as easy for the inspectors to explain what they want, and then check it with a photo or such. I mean, ya'll are building your own house, surely you wouldn't do any skimping or cheating. Love what you're doing ❤️
To make your own Wire Twisting tool bit for your drill, take a large rounded head bolt and drill two medium sized holes in the head of the bolt using a vice. Put the bolt in your drill and lace the wires through the holes and twist away!
Not sure if electrical codes are different in Idaho then the rest of the nation but most of the circuits that serve habitable spaces in a dwelling unit need to have afci protection. The only exception is the 20a circuit that feeds your bathroom outlets.
even if it not required I think normally you handle the white an black wires in te same way as the ground. If you get a problem in the outlet the rest will still work. // Börje
Y'all are doing a very good job on the house when can me and my wife move in I have not got a time from y'all on moving in ...... lol..... keep up all the great work ......
It amazes me that the property is so far away it is off grid.... but a Government Agency is still involved in inspecting it. If you can buy the land, pay for the house and build it..... I am sure you could get by without the inspector Great videos, keep them coming..... I am sure the Dept of Videos and entertainment will be by at any momoent to make sure your camera batteries are charged properly. LOL
oh sorry for a 2nd commet. but you need to insulate your inside walls also. because like me i HATE the cold but my old lady loves the cold. and i can take and heat or cool any one room and not effect any other room. the only regret i have is not building 6 inch outer walls. but at the time i couldn't afford it. and really needed to get into the new house
my electrical i got lucky on because my box is on the back wall almost in the middle of the of the house. so everything to the right of the box went on the right side and same with the left. so if i though a breaker in my room i know its on the left side of the box. and it goes from the back to the front so if one trips in my bath room i know its top left and my bedroom its bottom left. except my Generator its the bottom right because of the safety cut off. we have to have here in Texas. you guys have this coming along great keep up the good work
you know they make a special wire nut for the ground that has a hole in the end you run one wire through "longer and then stick the cut ones in and twist them together along with the long Pigtail.
Insulation is no fun. Marty you are a brave one on that ladder. You all made some great progress. Almost drywall time. Yay. Time to get the red lipstick out. Thanks for sharing. Take care, see ya :)
Nice job on your Panel, Marty... better than most electricians I know. I did the same things when I did my rewire. My electrician buddies tell me I do amazing work but I'd go broke if I did it for a living. I wonder what the reasoning is on having an outlet within 6 feet of a stairwell??
Twist your your wire first with your pliers then put on your wire nut if you get the green wire nuts with the hole in in the center you leave one ground long and in cert that long one through the hole that’s your pig tail sometimes when you do it the way your doing it the pigtails come lose or not as tight then that’s a problem
With your wiring at 8:33, it would be a good idea to nail metal face-plates on every stud to protect that wiring. People will forget over time and decide to hang a picture at the level of those wires.
Gotta love the irony of building a "homestead" but being constantly reminded that your not free in a "free country" and you must beg the govts permission to do ANYTHING, AND EVERYTHING. And, at any moment the county can just decide, to start fining you, for an alleged violation, and then, they can "legally" seize your property, to sell at auction. All because, of an inspector.
Not being American might be the reason why I can’t really follow your reasoning Mike Bolton. I understand that people would like to be completely independent from society. This, or any other family for that matter should pay for the benefit of using the roads to go to town and bet provisions or building materials, they have to pay to have the inspector approving their electrical since if the house may burn down otherwise and then someone has to pay for having firefighters ready and available to help and a heath system prepared to take care of your burns. So I think it’s only fair that the inspector is necessary and gets paid for. He is there for a good reason.
@@renatoazevedo9514 I respectfully disagree. Govts have done nothing but make people's lives miserable here in America. Our entire govts been taken over by crazies. And those roads you mention, are in complete disrepair thanks to 40 years of boomer lead govt stealing public funds to fill their pension funds, while preaching "deferred maintenance". The most awful, miserable, most terrible situation to be in, here in the USA, as a land and property owner, is living in a small community, where the same individuals and family's have "been in charge" for generations. They collude, they lie, cheat, and steal, to get their way, and they weaponize govt against citizens they have a grudge against. And, in my towns case... we have generational hatred. Where the town building inspector, took over for his father, and anyone that he didn't get along with in school, he now intentionally targets, with fines, and new made up obscure building codes, he uses to force people to waste money, tearing stuff apart, "too meet code". The problem with govt in general is its run by people. People who all have their own private objectives. Anytime you want to put your faith in govt, remind yourself of this... Yea, perhaps we should just ditch building life safety protocols and go back to the good ol' days where if 1 preventable fire started entire cities burnt down over night. Freedom
Hi all, lovin the progress. How dare the inspector fail your work, Did you let Jules loose on him/Her. Insulation work is wonder and fulfilling because you can see from a distance what's done. Marty, remember when you get snow we get the tail end of it a week later, so no so much wishing for snow if you don't mind thanks. Later 👍
Nice job. Only few issues to fix after inspections. Depending on the policies in Idaho, those are fixable. Nice job pulling in Ecoflow. I saw first, your original solar system and started making a list of products for my home. Before I finished with the list you had upgraded to a larger system, then yet again, you went split phase with larger controllers etc. I decided to not follow anyone specifically - just for ideas. First priority, if someone will not pay for my solar system when and if we sell our home, it is coming with us. That means portability. Second, I didn't want to worry about matching charge controllers, inverters, fuses, etc. So I went self contained. Third, I wanted 220v. Those three things lead me to Ecoflow and the Delta Pros. Two Delta Pros, four extension batteries, and six portable - 400w solar panels. The batteries, solar panels, etc. are great. The issues lie in hooking the system into the home power box (transfer switch). Although I love my Delta Pros, I ran into 5 major issues with EcoFlow/Delta Pros. 1. It only provides up to 30 amps. My central air runs off of a 50 amp circuit...no can do. I have 1-40 amp and 2-30 amp circuits. Running the necessities leaves out the ovens, cook top, and air conditioning. I can probably run my heating system because it's gas. 2. The Smart Home Panel. It only has 10 circuits. It can't run my whole house unless I start doubling or tripling up circuits from the electrical panels (2) going to the Smart Home System. Dangerous. Or, I select only certain circuits to run to the transfer switch. 3. The Smart Home Panel will not join or allow multiple Smart Home Panels to be added. 4. The app is a little weak. 5. One of the biggest issues - if the batteries run down and the system turns off, it can not turn itself back on when the batteries are recharged. It has to be done in-person. I love my Ecoflow system, But if they are going to come up with new things like solar lawnmowers, they should probably keep improving their main, powerhouse products. I am looking at buying the Lumin Smart Panel, You can add multiple panels together, the app is cool and will pick up the extra panels. And you can control what circuits are on or off any time from your phone. Which means I can run all my circuits in the electric panels to multiple Smart Panels and turn on or off the large circuits from my phone depending on the activities as to not overload the batteries causing them to shut down. All the problems are solved except having the system turn itself back on automatically. And the Apollos are loaded with problems. So that's not the solution either. Right now it is Ecoflow that tops them all. Nice job on the home projects and thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
I’d run your exhaust fan in rigid pipe with insulation since it’s going to pull warm moist air through the cold attic space, you could get condensation on the outside of it dripping through your drywall
Missing you kids, hope and pray everything's okay.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You have a great family. I like watching when you are all together. Keep living the dream!

Don't forget all the nail plates where wires go through the wood. We usually put the nail plates on before insulation.
I've heard of it happening, but this is the first time it's happened to me, that I know of. I was apparently unsubscribed from the channel. Luckily, I caught it. Good to be back.

It has to feel so great to be done with the insulation

Hello, lama tidak menonton mba Sarah aktif kembali di youtube. Thank's you pa Marten.
Not sure if your location allows the WAGO connectors instead of wire nuts, but they would be a lot better for you than the wire nuts.
Wishing you a great day too!
Well, now that Woodstove can do its job again.
Definitely make sure to foam around floor and ceiling penetrations and the garage to living spaces. Wires pipes and open cracks (bigger than a nickel) or open holes
Yup. That’ll help with a blower door test for air tightness

All of you are doing a fantastic job 💞. With the insulation in is going to make it feel a lot better and warmer ☺️.
You made a lot progress. Enjoy the heat in there. Keep warm. Love your videos.
Learning by doing it. It looks like about to finish. Keep warm🤗 and what a great team work.
You could make that spot under the stairs for the dogs and cats to sleep I have actually done it to few homes now.
Insulation is oh, so much fun! Looking good, ready for drywall. Can't wait to see the tape/float/texture fun!
That's a nice Job you are doing

Nice job on the home projects and thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
a pair or two of Linemans plyers would do a better job than long nose or multi tools for twisting your grounds before adding the wire nuts
You should be wearing an n95 mask. No good for C19, but great for dust and fiberglass fibers.
I’d run your exhaust fan in rigid pipe with insulation since it’s going to pull warm moist air through the cold attic space, you could get condensation on the outside of it dripping through your drywall
