The Return of Wild Bison to the American West

  • The wild American Bison, recently named the U.S. National Mammal, used to roam the American West in abundance of 60 million, yet in the early 20th century were numbered at close to 100. World of Adventure reveals the work of the National Wildlife Federation alongside tribal leaders at the Wind River Reservation to restore wild bison back to their homeland. The project is one that has been going on for decades, but to the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, and many others, there is nothing more important. Through this restoration project the healing is two-fold, and the native people in the Eastern Shoshone Tribe hope to revitalize their culture alongside the iconic wildlife population.

    It’s about time these peoples are given some small gesture of comfort by returning their sacred life form to their country.

    I love the idea that this is in any way accurate, when they refer to them as "buffalo" in almost every instance.
