- Since 1996, The Nature Conservancy and its partners have been working to restore a significant slice of prairie at Kankakee Sands in northwest Indiana. Nearly 6,500 acres have been planted with 600 native plants. Like its own “field of dreams,” once those plants were in the soil, the native wildlife followed. But planting prairie plants is just one part of restoration. The prairie evolved with grazers and fire, and bison are the best prairie grazers. But Indiana hasn’t seen bison roaming the prairie for nearly 200 years. That all changed when the Conservancy brought a herd of 23 bison to roam on more than 1,000 acres at Kankakee Sands. Learn why the Conservancy is excited to have bison "back home in Indiana."

What an incredible project. I can only hope that the Nature Conservancy can eventually expand the size of the acreage. Beautiful.
This is a perfect turn around!!!!! Now we just need the people that can live there, like they used to!
no people lol - let them camp there - yeah - but not the stupid consumerism
love the return of natural Prairie.
amazing - you need more land like that !
Very cool!!! Keep up the great work!!!
amazing
Remember Bison are powerful ! They can make a 5ft vertical leap, in three strides they can be at 35mph. In TR National park a Bison walked up to a horse corral and sprung over the fence he walked up to a horse, with one move lowered His head and flipped the horse into the air. Be respectful of their space
fantastic xxx
