    Hi Marty.
In one of your videos you asked for tips running a club. I can't remember what video that was so I'll write it here.
This tips are for digital only.
Make your track length uneven and one faster than the other. Like lane 1 is shorter but lane 2 is faster with speed. A lot of people will say that I'm wrong about hear me out. That makes it more of a overtaking race. As everyone wants to be in the same lane. What we do is that if 3 or more people racing in one race, the slower cars (more than 5 laps behind) should change over to let the faster car pass. "blue flag'
When doing qualifying, everyone pulls a number out of a hat and that is your qualifying position. So if I pull number 3, I qualify 3rd so 2 poeple has set times up before me, I'm alone on the track (no other cars pulling power and no hold ups) and I get one full tank of petrol to set a time to see in what position I start the race.
Why this works best is that all the other racers plays marshall for you when you qualify and it also builds up atmosphere. There is actually excitement in the air when you are split seconds away from the best time and cheers if you beat it. It also gives you a idea of how many laps you can do on a tank. You can also watch where the other drivers strong and weak points then are.
Every one can also then see if there are a problem with their cars fuel. It should be within about 7 laps from each other. So no more, but why am I using more fuel excuses.
Make sure all cars are 100% fuel on the car tune part of the smartrace app. That can make it from 15laps to 25 laps on a tank for a 30m long track.
Our races are 10km long. That is 334 laps on a 30m long track and even then second place can be only half a lap behind the winner. The closest was within 2sec.

Johan! First, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. This response is great! Very thought provoking for me. I like this idea.. I need to map it out on paper. I am getting ready to put a race night on the calendar and it might be a great way to test your ideas!

I am not into track marshals. When there is a crash I hit caution and stop the race.
I then move the person that crashed in front of the finish line so they lose most of there lap. When someone keeps wiping out they will be pointed out and hopefully learn to drive consistently, the way they would drive a real race car.
Hopefully people will learn how to really race each other instead of holding it wide open. I know this will probably only work for home track racing.

Rich, I agree. We marshal while we race and develop our own rules about how to try to keep it to a minimum. The guys that race my track are really getting good, so it happens less and less. Thanks.

Hitting caution is the best way to go in my opinion. Whoever crashed putting them in front of the start/finish line is a nice idea as well. Right now I like to add a penalty to who caused the caution. 5sec for me. Kinda makes it they had to come in the pits for quick repair. Not sure why so many just go so fast and wipe out. I’m f you run a long enough race then slower is always faster and most likely will win the race with consistent decent fast lap times without crashing.

I know I am way late to this party, but I just tried to implement this hack and ran into an issue with the parts I bought. When you buy the cable for the extension from the CU to the coupler DO NOT buy the curly cable that is used to connect the handset to the phone cradle! The plugs on those are quite a bit narrower and do not fit well into the CU. Just a heads up for anyone else trying this sweet hack idea!

You are correct!! Curly cord is headset cable!

Hey Marty, finally got around to trying this hack but running into an issue. When I plug the controller (TruSpeed Carrera-D VI) into the altered coupler, my car's throttle is controlled by the controller's lane change button and not the trigger. Also can't code the car so I wonder if there's some issue with wiring. Maybe controller plug pins aren't seated right? Did you run into any issues at first when doing this hack?

Brent, you are using telephone extension wire, not headset cable? Correct? Sounds like you have some wires crossed.. it should be plug N play

Yeah, telephone wire with included coupler.

Fixed! Apparently the telephone cable I ordered from Amazon is not the correct type or is faulty. Picked up new cable from Hone Depot and it’s working now! Woo-hoo! Thanks so much for this video Marty!
