Almost 60 years here. I was blessed to be in the San Jose area (California) with a long wooden race track. I used to beg old and worn rails, motors, anything they were throwing out anyway. Soldered a lot of dragsters together, and launched quite a few across the room. This track is so fast I can’t see how you would enjoy running on it outside of practice laps.
Haha....I know! I was like, "It's easier to follow a 120 mph slap shot in a hockey game!" :-) That's pretty cool how fast they go, though, and the drivers can follow them.
I slowed this down to 25% speed and it appeared took take about 6 secs per lap, so in real time about 1.25 secs is the actual lap time. The track looks like it's maybe 30-40m long. Say 35. So these cars are doing something like 30m per second. Which is about 100 kph or 62 mph. The standard Scalextric car model scale is 1:32 which is apparently the global standard for slot car racing. So the speed of these cars to scale is approximately 3,200 kph or 1,988 mph. This is comparable with the fastest jet aircraft ever built, the Lockhead SR-71 Blackbird recon plane, which can reach 3,540 kph or 2,200 mph. You wouldn't see that if it flew over you house either.
@Bob Dobalina They are about the same size as a standard 12v motor you find in toys (about 1 1/4 inches long by 3/4 inch wide by 1/2 inch thick). At speed the clear sides fold out because of air pressure giving even more down force so it's a critical balancing act.

This is wild! I raced slot cars back in the early 60's, 55 years ago, and our cars moved like thick molasses compared to these modern ones. Can't imagine what technology they are using to reach such speeds, and, to keep them on the track. Even at our slow speeds, we were constantly crashing. This is amazing! How on earth do they even know which car is theirs. Incredible! :)
When I was about 10 I had a cheap track and bad cars, so I directly attached the wires from the track to a plug wich made them run on 220v… made the cars at least 3 times faster. To be able to keep such a speed I had to removed the plastic roofing of the cars leaving just a thin piece of plastic with a motor and some wheels. Those were great times, played around with that for weeks on end with my twin brother.
@@paulgoff5068 ? What are you talking about? The pick-up for conductivity to propel the electric motor has always been copper! This has always been done this way. What was changed is the positioning of the magnets to stick to the track. It's simple and basic do you understand now? Take a look at the underside of an old slot car compared to the new one. They took the challenge away just like the world dumbed down Nintendo games and made them easier. As a reference.
I used to race this class over a decade ago. As with any form of racing, you're always looking to go faster. It got to the point that it was just too ridiculous . The "cars" just don't look like cars any more (mind you, you can't actually see them during a race). The bodies more closely resemble a wedge of cheese with tall plastic walls surrounding it on 3 sides. When the hard-body cars started turning up, with incredible detail, I "jumped ship" immediately and never looked back. of course the cars are slower, but so is every one else's. They are following the cars, as you need to reduce throttle in the turns, otherwise you’ll fly off of the track. I built and raced these as a teenager and my 16 year old eyes were fast enough, I wonder if I could still do it.
The main part they focus on us the upramp section because if they don't lay off there they'll launch in the air. Aside from that I guess it's all about muscle. memory and timing. Takes practice.

Incredible! :)
I raced pro in the 60's and the track record for a lap on that track was 4.50 seconds LMVYAO!!!
They ruined slot car racing when they used magnets that were way too strong.
@@davidmerrick467 you raced pro in the 60s? how old are you now?? if you were 20 years old then you'd be over 80 lmao
My cars go like 99% slower than those cars go😂
Damnit, I did not expect such SPEED. I was waiting to see the cars..... instead, I saw FLASH in reality.
They ruined slot car racing when they used magnets that were way too strong.
Earth to Drakkor, Earth to Drakkor.
No magnet downforce is involved, the pick up braids are copper.
Thanks for posting... these guys make me look like James Dean.
even in slow motion i can't tell what's going on lol

Would I be watching this if I had a girlfriend?
no, you'll be watching her.
I did, so she watched too.
I am watching with my girlfriend
I think the more important question is: would you _not_ be watching this if you had a girlfriend?
i'm watching this with my girlfriend
Those speeds are insane. A far cry from the toy/cars I grew up with.
I am, after all, an automotive enthusiast, not a "wedge of cheese" enthusiast! (I like EATING cheese, though.
They are fast and super fun, yup.
However, modern full-size LMP1 cars look more and more similar to these "wedges" as the years pass. It's all about ground force and air control.
Around here they called them flys because of their shape.

Imagine having a small camera attached to those cars
I would vomit
You would just see an amorphous blur.
A small camera and having to use FPV
@@RandyPrimus Refer to previous comment about vomiting

I could not even see the cars you drivers are on another level so so so fast 😵💫 but so cool to watch.👍🏴
the physical training must be absolutely staggering.
Paul S it’s all in the wrist work
Spend late nights building spare motors at one's desk, drinking beer. Then carrying several pit boxes in from one's car.And the really tough part, changing a rear axle, gears, tires, and a motor in the few minutes they give you for lane change.
You’re joking, right?😂
That's insane! That doesn't look like the slot cars I played with as a kid.
Those were just training sets.
One of those auctioneer guys would make a great commentator!
Wow, that is crazy fast, I wasn't expecting that much speed damn

Me and boys :
I bet these guy can track super fast yamcha's fight as well
RUclips algorithm gettin me everytime.
“Why am i seeing this?”
“Oh... so are 24M people”
Can they actually follow the cars with their eyes or are just pretending?
They are following the cars, as you need to reduce throttle in the turns, otherwise you’ll fly off of the track. I built and raced these as a teenager and my 16 year old eyes were fast enough, I wonder if I could still do it.
FOCUS...it helps to be “high”...👍
The main part they focus on us the upramp section because if they don't lay off there they'll launch in the air. Aside from that I guess it's all about muscle. memory and timing. Takes practice.
Basically, it's a kind of rhythm .
Dragon ball Z fights are a piece of cake for this guys
See, this is what I wish slot cars could be, for more people to get into it, with competitions and friends testing their cars against each other, I just wish more people would get involved in this amazing hobby.
Strap a go pro on one
Instant Barf.
Too bad the cars have to be as light as possible to go that fast, it would be pretty cool to have a camera on one
You could save one track just for the gopro and crank up the juice, I vote for the middle track.
Steven Arseneault agree!
Baldomo Just drive slowly with the car with the go pro on it and then speed up the video to match the speed of the actual race car

I seriously thought the same shit. I was like wtf
You just gave me an idea. 0.25 speed xp
Even with 0.25 speed I can't see cars.
Was expecting childhood toy video. Was not dissappointed. Wtf the speed lol
Drivers look like Rainman in reverse when they’re watching the cars.
It is midnight, i should go to bed cause tomorrow i have to go to school. I am watching this video. Everything under control
It is 4AM. I must go to work in 2 hours.

How did I get here.
Lmao just looked at the clock it's 11.25pm.. I'm asking myself the sane thing. Seriously wtf am I doing 😂
how can they concentrate with the cars going so fast, how fast are they going anyway????
+Steventhe2nd normally 50-100mph, top speed over 100mph
Jussi Kämäräinen you still think it's hard to concentrate with those kind of speeds
+Jussi Kämäräinen Group 7 motors? I raced NASCAR class with flexi chassis and 16D motors, a lot slower (and cheaper), but still a lot of fun. I miss my slot car racing days.

Late braking and diving inside would end.
Drivers too to think of it.

Watching this on full speed I was amazed that they all seemed capable of keeping up with their car.
Then I clicked on your timestamp while having 0.25x speed on.
Half of them look like they're pretending, if you go super slowmo by tapping space you can see like 5 cars fly by their crotches while noone is looking down.
The guy with the green controller has that shit on lock though!
