Love your videos, JH! Quick question, if you set it up with the control unit across from the pit lane (9:06 Mark), where do you recommend plugging in your Wireless Charging Station for Double Controllers? Thank you again!

If you look closely, there are two adjacent pit lane entries (you need to have two pit stop kits). After that second split is where a standard 2-lane turn can be used.

I've seen a couple with a separate lane for just the pace car, how do you program/setup that? Do you know if the SmartRace app or Carrera app have the same gauge display like yours? Too bad for Salami 😢, I liked him 😅😅
If adding a separate pit for a pace/safety car you don't use the PLA, just a regular piece of single-lane straight track between the pit entry and exit pieces instead. After that, there's no special setup. But, you need to be sure to put it before the regular pit so it pulls into it's own pit lane instead of the one all the drivers use for fuel stops. As far as the race apps go, SmartRace does indeed have a fuel level indicator for each driver on the race screen. I'm sure the Carrera app does, too. Although I don't know of anybody that uses the Carrera app.Apparently it's pretty bad.

The PLAs can be placed anywhere on the track, whether between the pit entry and exit with as many straights on either side as you like, between two of the Carerra chicanes (some use those as the pit entry because they have a more gradual entry), or even on the main racing line. Not that you would, but technically they would work that way. Wherever they are placed, when a car crosses it goes into fueling mode, fueled using the LC button, and drops out when approximately 1/3 throttle is applied.
Thanks for answering! I might buy two of those PLAS to try that as I am limited on my track as far as adding much more track. I know the scalextric has fueling like that but with the Carrera cars I guess they could use either pla to fuel? 🏁

One question though, i wanna do a dual pit lane with the adapters to accommodate 6 cars at once so would i need to have 6 adapters? Or just two on each lane? And second i really really want it to have a 3rd lane for a physical safety car is that possible?
You only need one pit lane adapter per lane, regardless of the number of cars. Having a third lane for the safety car won't work because it'll stop automatically after it enters the first pit lane switch, blocking the pit lane. You'll want to have a completely separate pit for the safety car.
@@snsrcraceway After calling out the safety car, it will run laps around the track and not enter any pit until until it is called back by pressing the PACE CAR button. When called back it will then enter the first pit it encounters. Therefore, you'll need to call the safety car back after it passes the regular pit but before reaches the safety car pit.
I don't seem to have the same results you do. My cars start refueling the moment they cross the adaptor, and never require the driver to stop, or hold the button... They just fill until full every time. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
There are a couple things possible. Be sure the adapter track is installed in the correct orientation. The infrared sensor should be on the left side, same as for all other sensored tracks. Also, are you using the Digital Control Unit (CU) as your power base? The advanced pit lane adapter does not work with the older Black Box power base if that is what you are using. If the adapter is in correctly and you are using the current CU, then most likely the adapter track is defective.
Excellent information. I don’t have my track yet but I have a pit lane on order. Is there a way for me to use my analog fly cars that I will be chipping with carrera chips to know when the cars are out of fuel since they will not have lights on them and I will not be running race management software?
Without lights you'd need to use the driver information centers to see current fuel level. We have a couple of cars w/o lights and we simply added a single LED in the interior of the car wired to the chip where the headlights would normally be wired. That's with the stock Carrera chip that has the leads for headlights and tail lights. Not sure if aftermarket chips have those connections though.
Hi JH if I’m using the driver information center it is for just one driver or for the 4 ? If yes how do you install this software Doese not the mobile app doing the same thing ?
When using the driver info center it displays info for only one driver at a time. I believe you can toggle the driver IDs to display other driver info which is kinda useless. In our opinion, it is best to get some sort of computerized display where all driver info is presented where all drivers can see it wherever they are around the track.
@@johnniehobby Thank you for responding. I am about to buy a double lane changer. I am still learning about this digital set and people like you are VERY helpful. I have a combination digital Carrera slot car set and super chief Lionel train. Around Christmas time (if all goes well) I will be ready to post it. As you know, it takes time and I have changed the layout three times (12x10 table I'm working with). Thanks again.
@@man_manty When using the advanced pit lane adapter (PLA), the Real setting will make the car slower on a full tank as it simulates the weight of the fuel. It will then gradually get faster as the fuel is used and the car gets lighter. The lap counting (or lack thereof) doesn't change with that setting. Whether laps are counted or not when out of fuel will still depend on whether the PLA is installed.
Johnny, I could use your help. I purchased the pit lane however, I am not sure how to incorporate it in my 30012 GT Face Off track. Do I need to get more track? My table is 12ft W X 8 ft lg.
You can incorporate the pit lane with that set, and easily fit it in your available space, and without getting more track. A quick way to do that is to keep same track configuration but lengthen the sections where the start/finish line and double lane change are. Essentially, put the pit where the double lane change is and replace the single straight just before the start/finish line with the double lane change. You'll end up with one piece of straight track left over but your overall track length will still be longer that it was before adding the pit. Overall track footprint will be about 12 feet x 5-1/2 feet.
You are probably running the Smart Race app. It doesn't run on a PC. The race management software we are using in this video is HSSRMS. It runs on a PC with Windows. Hi John. Great videos! In regards to the M.A.S., I set mine up like yours, but everytime a car comes through the right lane, it automatically switches lanes with no driver input? I did cut the left side of the exit piece and right side of the lane change piece two and joined them together. Did I do something wrong?
@@johnniehobby yes, exactly. I found out that the problem is with that specific lane changer unit. I made two of these, one for the main pits and one for the safety car lane. One of the two works perfectly, but the other one trips the lane change gate as soon as the car hits the first 1/4" of the first track section. Even if I cover the IF sensor with cardboard and tape, it trips it. I'm going to pull it apart and wring out the circuit. Thank you for all your videos, I have avoided a lot of mistakes in my track design.
Great video thanks!! I wanna get a setup to where we can do pit stops. Looks like a lot of fun. Carrera digital GT race battle I see for $359. Would that be the set to buy? I know I’m gonna have to buy other track parts and accessories to complete what you need.
That sounds about right for a Carrera starter set in 1/32 scale. You can't really go wrong with any of the sets as they are all pretty much the same save for the cars. But, if you can get a set that comes with the wireless controllers, that is recommended. If not, you can get the wireless controllers separately. If you haven't already you should check out our video on recommended accessories to add first to your new slot car set here: ruclips.net/video/fYwN3DThv5E/видео.html
@@johnniehobby thank you very much for your response and info. I will be watching your video link. Are there sets available for sell today that include wireless controllers. Does the pit lane set have to be bought separately? I haven’t seen any sets that include that.
@@RickyFrench72 I've never seen a Carrera set that includes the pit. All the starter sets are pretty basic. As far as sets that come with the wireless, the only one I see right now is Carrera item 30015 DTM Speed Memories but don't think it's available until January. Everything else I see have wired controllers. You can get the wireless controllers separately so getting it with a track isn't absolutely critical. There may be the separate wireless controller set available at my Amazon affiliate link here: amzn.to/3C8uy8Y as well as the pit lane: amzn.to/3nc02a1 If you find a slot car set in stock and for a decent price you may want to jump on it sooner than later. Hey Guys, Love all your videos I have a question is there a tutorial on how to set up the Bruce ling ying timing system. I have it on my computer and tv but would like to set it up like you guys do. Trying to switch my club over to digital. So far it like pulling teeth. If you can help please. Keep doing those videos my friend. Thanks Mario
I am not aware of any tutorials for HSSRMS. We actually started making one this winter, but haven't finished it yet and with summer approaching we'll be concentrating on our R/C videos for a while, so our video on Bruce Yingling's race management probably won't be done and posted until the fall. In the meantime, if there's any questions you have about it, feel free to ask. Also, there's a forum for HSSRMS that has helped us out with not only the software but Carrera-specific issues as well. Link is here: www.hrwforum.com/forum/hrw-all-scales/club-home-connection/carrera-digital-north-america/4472-hssrms-thread-home-for-faq-discussion-on-bruce-y-s-pc-based-carrera-digital-t-s
If you use a race management program like HSSRMS, max speed of the car when out of fuel can be adjusted via the software. You need to be using the advanced pit lane in order to do that.
Hi, one question, how do i avoid always geting to the outside lane on a 2 lane pit when usin 1 fuel lane (you call it POA)? Once you can't stop pressing the red button after you passed the fuel lane point?
You can release the LC button after the fueling point but before the second/outside pit lane. After the car stops it should be in fueling mode and pressing LC button will fuel it. Hope that helps (unless I'm not understanding the question correctly).
I have two pit lanes and two pit lane adapters (and a Control Unit to make it all work) and nested them to create a double pit lane like in your video. But the cars won't ever change lanes to the second level after entering the initial pit switch. I've read in other places that I might need to modify the initial pit switch to be a regular switch, but you didn't mention anything about it in the video. Did you have to make a similar modification? Or am I just doing something wrong?
You shouldn't have to do anything special to make the dual pit lane work, and I've never heard of having to modify the first pit entry piece. Also, if you were to make the pit entry a regular switch you'd end up with ghost cars (if you use them) entering the pits, which isn't good. Are you sure the car isn't coming in too fast, getting a bit sideways before hitting the 2nd pit entry, thus the IR emitter in the car isn't aligned with the IR receiver in the track? Do both the pit entry pieces work when used by themselves? How new are the pit lane kits and the CU? I'm wondering if newer ones have different firmware that may be causing that. I haven't had that problem so sorry I can't be of much help. However, there is a forum you may want to post the same question to as there are some guys on there who are very knowledgeable in the electronics of Carrera digital. Here's a link: www.hrwforum.com/forum/hrw-all-scales/club-home-connection/carrera-digital-north-america
@@johnniehobby These are old Pit Lanes. I bought the adapter Lanes separately years later. Maybe they're is a difference in the code. I do know that one manual for out lane says you can't nest them. Thx for the link. I'll try my luck there.
@@ThomasCrymes Hi Thomas. I was just going through old videos and came across this comment about the 2nd pit entry not working. Did you ever get that figured out? Also, you wouldn't happen to be running 1/24 scale cars, would you?

We have a couple of cars w/o lights and we simply added a single LED in the interior of the car wired to the chip where the headlights would normally be wired. That's with the stock Carrera chip that has the leads for headlights and tail lights. Not sure if aftermarket chips have those connections though.
Great info, thanks
You bet!
Hi JH if I’m using the driver information center it is for just one driver or for the 4 ?
If yes how do you install this software
Doese not the mobile app doing the same thing ?
When using the driver info center it displays info for only one driver at a time. I believe you can toggle the driver IDs to display other driver info which is kinda useless. In our opinion, it is best to get some sort of computerized display where all driver info is presented where all drivers can see it wherever they are around the track.
Is the single lane change track necessary for the pit stop set up?
The single lane change is not absolutely necessary, just a "nice-to-have" feature.
What is the difference between the settings real and on with the base pit lane kit
Also does either setting affect if your lap is counted when out or not?
@@man_manty When using the advanced pit lane adapter (PLA), the Real setting will make the car slower on a full tank as it simulates the weight of the fuel. It will then gradually get faster as the fuel is used and the car gets lighter. The lap counting (or lack thereof) doesn't change with that setting. Whether laps are counted or not when out of fuel will still depend on whether the PLA is installed.
@@johnniehobby thank you
Johnny, I could use your help.
Como habéis puesto la aplicación en un monitor así viejo???
A ver si me podéis ayudar porque la app de carrera solo deja móvil o tablet
You are probably running the Smart Race app. It doesn't run on a PC. The race management software we are using in this video is HSSRMS. It runs on a PC with Windows. Here is a link for HSSRMS if you are interested in that app:

You mentioned Race management software.....can you provide a link to this software. Thank you in advance.....BTW great videos and information. Please keep them coming......
The two most popular options are HSSRMS and SmartRace.
SmartRace is used with the Carrera Bluetooth module and can run on Android and Apple phones and tablets and Apple desktops and laptops (not for Windows PCs).
HSSRMS uses a USB cable to connect to a PC running Windows.

@@johnniehobby Thank you for the quick reply and information….it’s much appreciated!!!
Hi John. Great videos! In regards to the M.A.S., I set mine up like yours, but everytime a car comes through the right lane, it automatically switches lanes with no driver input? I did cut the left side of the exit piece and right side of the lane change piece two and joined them together. Did I do something wrong?
Not sure exactly what you are describing? You combined part of a lane changer and pit exit into one piece?
@@johnniehobby yes, exactly. I found out that the problem is with that specific lane changer unit. I made two of these, one for the main pits and one for the safety car lane. One of the two works perfectly, but the other one trips the lane change gate as soon as the car hits the first 1/4" of the first track section. Even if I cover the IF sensor with cardboard and tape, it trips it. I'm going to pull it apart and wring out the circuit. Thank you for all your videos, I have avoided a lot of mistakes in my track design.
Love your subject matter. I just started Slot Cars but I purchased 2 Scalextric sets instead of Carrera. Sub'bed
Thanks for the comment, and welcome aboard.
where did you get the green turf?
I got the turf at Lowe's. It's indoor/outdoor carpet you can get at Home Depot and Menard's also.
If you haven't already you should check out our video on recommended accessories to add first to your new slot car set here:
ruclips.net/video/fYwN3DThv5E/видео.html
There may be the separate wireless controller set available at my Amazon affiliate link here:
amzn.to/3C8uy8Y
as well as the pit lane:
amzn.to/3nc02a1
If you find a slot car set in stock and for a decent price you may want to jump on it sooner than later. With the supply chain issues combined with upcoming holidays I can see availability on everything getting thin (or thinner than it already is).
@@johnniehobby thank you for the info. Has helped me out a lot. I just bought the carrera digital 132 GT Race battle . Just getting the feel of it. It’s a blast . Next I’m gonna buy the pit lane and the dual wireless controller set and couple more cars. I’m gonna experiment today with the smartphone setup and check it out since I don’t have the tower or any other accessories. How is it on the smartphone? You have a video on that? I may have overlooked it if you do. Thank you.

Link is here:

@@johnniehobby thanks looking forward to that video. I tell you one thing I don’t drink but you guys make drinking cool. No doubt!!! :)
Can you customize the pit options? Like if out of fuel, only runs at 25% throttle and with flashers on
If you use a race management program like HSSRMS, max speed of the car when out of fuel can be adjusted via the software.
@@johnniehobby i think it did, ill test it as soon as i can tks a lot!
Here's a link:
www.hrwforum.com/forum/hrw-all-scales/club-home-connection/carrera-digital-north-america

When you say PLA do you mean pit lane accessories?? Iv never got abreiveations (I can’t even spell the word lol )
PLA = Pit Lane Adapter. That's the single-lane piece with the infrared sensor marked "fuel" that is placed in pit lane so the sensor knows which car entered the pit.
