    Gotta love RUclips’s suggestion algorithm…. I’d ordered the 900 last week and had watched several videos prior, then received it last night.
    I haven’t used it yet but surely will daily. It replaces a Ninja SP101 which I’ve really liked.

      Yes, same!! I'm a little disappointed it's too short to fit a KitchenAid mixer bowl to proof (just found that out a day or two ago), but I'll just transfer my dough to a different bowl when needed. Should still be great for the second proof on shaped loaves, though!
      Hope your bread turns out amazing!

    In Canada, these are more at regular price. I bought a Breville Smart oven 7 years ago for great price at Best Buy. Convection fan stopped after couple years but didn’t miss it. Everything else still works great. I just received my upgrade, same size model BOV860 with air fryer and colour that I prefer. Bought refurbished and saved $100. Not a mark on it . Just arrived and not set up yet. Have another Breville product that I like

    I agree that the oven is heavy, especially before unpacking. The outside box used for shipping has no handholds and that makes it awkward to handle. It is helpful to have another person help carry or move the package. The inside box does have handholds. It is probably best to leave the oven on the floor until it is completely unpacked. I unpacked my oven on a carpeted area of the floor, and I tried to minimize lifting. Once unpacked, the oven isn't too difficult to move around.

    Great video! So happy to see this unboxing. I do not have a toaster oven and this looks intriguing; my mom loves hers (Emeril). I can't wait for your next report on how it's working for you. I learned something new, didn't know that the electric ovens actually bake better than the gas ovens. This makes perfect sense now that you mention it since I always have to be so careful where I place my cake pans when I bake - one side will brown while the other is just perfect. Happy baking!

    Just what I needed to re-box mine for a return! I thought it had a stainless steel interior and since I bought it on Amazon I didn't see the box that describes the nonstick interior. Should have read further into questions and comments. I've been trying to replace our current nonstick interior airfryer because the interior is so hard to clean if you don't clean it after nearly every oily cooking session. I need something I can scrape clean. Sigh. Back into the box

      I looked at Consumer Reports' best countertop ovens, the most highly reviewed ovens on Amazon, a few general articles on countertop ovens, and some countertop ovens my fellow food bloggers have raved about. Sorry to say the Wolf countertop oven never came up in my research! I just did a quick search for it on Google, and it's $600+, which lands *quite* comfortably outside of my price range. It looks like it has a lot of the same features and a similar overall customer rating, but far fewer reviews (probably due to the higher price point). I would hope it has some more features than the Breville to make that extra $200-300 worth it :)

    Level 7 is at the very bottom of the oven. Do they really mean for a tray to be inserted where it is practically almost touching the bottom heating elements? I would think it would burn the heck out of a pizza's bottom.

    • @FloralApronBlog
      @FloralApronBlog  4 месяца назад +1

      Yep, they do! I've reheated pizza on level 7 exclusively since I've gotten it, and it performs great with crispy but not burnt crusts.
      The one caveat is more the opposite problem lol: The included pan isn't the greatest for baking homemade pizza from scratch. Fresh dough doesn't bake up near crisp enough for me, and it's nowhere near getting close to the crust burning. (I have a video of that in my 6-month update for the Breville if you're curious.) I still use my gas oven and pizza stone if I'm going to make pizza from scratch, but the Breville works really well to reheat pizza :)

      @FloralApronBlog  10 месяцев назад

      Sure! I've listed the dimensions in other comments; here's what I've said:
      I just measured mine, and its exterior dimensions are about 21.5" wide, 17.5" out from the wall (including the handle), and 12.5" tall. Also, keep in mind you're "supposed" to have 4" of clearance on either side and 6" of clearance above, which will mean you need about 30" inches of open space on your countertop. When it is on and cooling down, it mostly blows air out of the right side where the controls are, so l'd prioritize that spacing on that side for sure :)

    Thank you for your great video. I just discovered your channel as I investigate getting an air fryer toaster oven or convection toaster oven. How is the lower tier convection oven different from the oven you bought? I am undecided on getting an air fryer vs a convection oven. My wife and I are in our late 60's and do not do a lot of extensive cooking, but still cook salmon, burgers, roasts and chicken. I am thinking it might be better to get a counter-top unit instead of using our large gas oven. Thank you.

    • @FloralApronBlog
      @FloralApronBlog  Год назад +2

      Hi Walter! Both of the Breville toaster ovens I mentioned are convection ovens, so if you're debating between just these two ovens, you can have both settings with the higher tier one (900BSS)!
      Compared to the oven I have, Breville's lower tier convection oven (800XL):
      -Does not have air fry, proof, slow cook, or dehydrate settings.
      -Has a smaller interior size (18.5 x 15.7 x 11.1). If you and your wife do a lot of baking, you may have to purchase smaller versions of standard baking pans (muffin pans, baking sheets, baking dishes, etc). If you don't do much baking (or plan to still use your gas oven for that), that probably won't be much of a concern.
      I haven't experimented much with the air fry setting, so it could just be lack of education/tests on my end, but I don't think there's much of a difference between the air fry and regular convection heating. Certainly not enough for me to think it's worth that extra $100 or so! But that $100 is MORE than worth it for me for the sheer amount of regular-sized baking dishes and pans I can fit inside.
      They're both great convection oven options with even heating, so it really depends on what features you think you would use. If you're not regularly cooking anything too fancy or too large, you should be able to get away with the 800XL. I almost think the 900BSS is a little too big when I'm cooking two measly pieces of fish on the roasting pan for my husband and me, but it really comes in handy with larger batches of cookies.
      I hope that helps; let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@FloralApronBlog I think the main difference in air frying is that the fan speed is increased by quite a lot.

    • @FloralApronBlog
      @FloralApronBlog  Год назад

      In a regular convection oven vs a separate air fryer appliance, perhaps!
      I have not personally noticed a difference in fan speed between using the convection setting vs the air fry setting in this Breville oven (or in my gas oven, which has convection and air fry settings as well) :)
      Edit: I used the air fryer function earlier this week and could definitely tell a difference in the fan speed for the Breville oven! Definitely much louder than the normal convection setting, and the fan speed is much faster. I still don't think there's a huge difference in the end result of the baked/air fried food, but you were right in that the fan speed is increased!

    • @FloralApronBlog
      @FloralApronBlog  Год назад

      Hmmmm, it depends on the features you're looking for. If you really only need a microwave and an air fryer, the Combi Wave would probably be your best bet, as you'd just be paying for the features you'd use.
      I'm sure you'd be able to find ways to use the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro (there are a TON of features), but I don't think it would work well as a microwave. Then you'd end up having to buy a microwave *in addition* to the toaster oven, and not everyone has the space on their counters for that. But if you do have the space, I have an affiliate link you can use to purchase it haha ;)

      I *think* so! Breville claims it can fit a 5-qt Dutch oven, and it fits my 2.5-qt, 6" tall Dutch oven easily.

      The inner height from the lowest rack to the very top, right under the bar protecting the heating elements, is about 7.25" tall
      On the lowest rack, the Breville oven just barely fits my 7-qt Crockpot Dutch oven without the lid. The lid does not fit, as the lid + pot makes the Dutch oven about 7.5" tall.
      It would be close, but you should be able to fit a 5-qt, 7" tall Dutch oven with careful placement!

      This toaster oven is pretty big for a countertop oven, probably to accommodate all the things it can fit inside haha! I just measured mine, and its exterior dimensions are about 21.5" wide, 17.5" out from the wall (including the handle), and 12.5" tall. @@madsmadsmaddy Sure! My counters are 25" deep.
      The oven's footprint from my backsplash to the front of the oven door (not including the handle) is 15.125".
      Note: The oven rests on four feet that are about 1.5" deep and 2.5" wide. They're set a little bit inward than the actual corners of the oven. (You might be able to see that in the video when I take the bottom cardboard off?) From the back of the wall to the end of the feet in front, it's 13.5".

    @adamj2683 Год назад +1

    There are TONS of 1-star and 2-star Amazon reviews for this suggesting that it is poorly made and can break down catastrophically.
    Glass door shattering while cooking, knobs breaking down, fan breaking down, door hinge breaking down because of poor design, the unfixable "E06" error etc.
    On top of that, tons of people having issues contacting Breville for customer support. Long wait times, having to wait weeks for them to get your air fryer and make a decision on it, or never even getting contacted back by Breville.
    Makes me quite hesitant to buy.

    • @FloralApronBlog
      @FloralApronBlog  Год назад +3

      If you're hesitant to buy, then I wouldn't buy it.
      All I can tell you is I've had a positive experience so far, and many people I've talked to about Breville appliances have had positive experiences. I get that that doesn't negate the fact that there are people with negative experiences out there.
      If there was ANYONE that was going to have a negative experience with this oven, it would have been us. My husband and I joke that we're cursed, because ever since covid, we have had ~75% of our packages contain items broken in transit no matter the carrier, had to have 30+ items fixed in our new-build house (even after we moved in), went through four fridges before we got a good working one, had our washer leak intermittently to the point where the two of us moved it out of the house to fix it two or three times... Name any minor household inconvenience you could have, and we've probably had it within the last three years lol.
      We've had this oven for three months now, and I've used it daily (if not multiple times per day). The only real issue we had was it tripped the fuse the third time we used it. Hasn't happened again, and there have been no other issues. It's only three months in, but still. I still have the box because I wanted to be able to return it in case something did happen.
      There are probably some quality control issues (whether they're due to covid, consumerism, second-rate materials, etc... who knows?), but I think you're going to find that with most items/companies nowadays. With all of our house/appliance issues, I have not had a single call to a company where I have not been put on a ridiculously long hold. At this point, I'm just used to it and know to be persistent for any follow-through lol.
      That said, if you're really concerned about dealing with Breville customer service, you may want to look into purchasing the oven at a department store with a credit card for two extra layers of protection. You can always return the item to store or submit a claim with your credit card if you have a problem and can't get a hold of Breville customer service.
      Lastly, I don't personally think 575 bad reviews (1 or 2 stars) out of 8,200+ is a ton. I think there would be many more negative reviews than 7% on Amazon if the product truly was commonly defective.
      The decision is up to you, and whatever you decide to do, I hope it serves you well!
