- As always, please listen to both renditions then share your thoughts in the comments section.
"Yearning for Your Love" is a 1980 ballad recorded and released by The Gap Band on Mercury Records. The single was the third release off the band's fifth album, The Gap Band III (1980). Four different singles, each with a different B-side, were released in 1981.
The song became a modest hit on the US and UK charts when it was released; it arose to number five on the Hot Soul Singles chart and number sixty on the Billboard Hot 100. Written by Gap Band backing member/keyboardist Oliver Scott and keyboardist Ronnie Wilson, it was a romantic love song dedicated to Wilson's wife at the time and was performed by Ronnie's brother Charlie Wilson. In 1990, Guy covered the song on their 1990 album, The Future. - Wikipedia

The Gap Band..hands down! But I think that Guy did a great cover.
The Gap Band. This is simply my favorite song
Not even close. Gap Band all day long!!! !
I’ve only heard the Gap Band’s version. I didn’t even know Guy covered it. With that said, after listening to both versions, I’ll continue to only acknowledge the Gap Band’s version 😂
Same here
🤣🤣🤣🤣
"YUP 💯!".
Guy represented well, but Uncle Charlie owns that song…my vote is Gap Band
I Agree with your statement
💯🎯
Are you serious I'm just curious 🎤🎶🎶......Gap Band
I grew up with the Gap Band version❤, BUT I loved Guy's remake. It exposed a younger generation to a classic
Seriously.... No Competition here!!! THE GAP BAND R&B CLASSIC PERIOD!!!!!
Originality is a word that describes itself for a reason!!! Gap Band!
The similarities between Uncle Cholly’s and Aaron Hall’s voices created this.
I’m certified old school.
Gap Band gets the W.🏆
I never heard this version of the song..I Love Guy but...The Gap Band already DID IT‼
I have to give the edge to the GAP band, although both versions are awesome.
The Gap Band, Hands Downs!!!!!!
Facts, Not even close, The Gap for the win.
Damn! I Love both versions, Fire! But you gotta go with the GAP! When I hear it , my mind says GAP BAND !
Greenwood Archer & Pine Band
_The G.A.P._ (“ _Greenwood, Archer and Pine_ ”) _Band,_ ALL the way. This Video is the first time I heard anyone else other than them singing this song. I _TOTALLY_ agree, @chrisdragnet722.
The Gap Band. 🖤❤️
Honestly, I think Guy did an excellent job on the remake. I’m from the “New Jack Generation”, in that I was a teenager in the 90s. I heard the Gap Band’s version first going to the skating rink with my mom. To this day, I still get excited when the DJ puts it on, but I like both versions.
The Gap Band
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE GUY!!! But imma have to go with the Gap Band on this one... the tinkling of the cymbals. The drums. The guitar. Just the band altogether... just has a more authentic "feel" to it.... idk just evokes such a sense of nostalgia.. this was the closest one yet! 🎉🎉
Exactly!
Gap Band was era where you had to be able to SANG and musicians better be able to play, play!
I do think the Gap Band because of the original instrument sounds better.
Guy may do a good song now and then but they will never go down as a great R and B group. Gap Band is one of the great funk groups; just look at their body of work.
Very few imitators can even equal the originators!
Feels like a showdown between Charlie Wilson vs Aaron Hall… Uncle Charlie got this one!
OH LAWD....AINT NO COMPETITION.......
GAP BAND
ALLLLLLL. DAYYYY✌️
Gap Band's classic is just that.
A classic 🍷
Guy offered a good version but The Gap Band owns it! Covered by others, sampled by others, but still belongs to The Gap Band 😉!
Thanks for sharing 😊🎶💃🏻
GAP Band version for me❤❤
Guy is great, Gap Band own's it.
First off, I'm CRAZY for the soulful vocals of Aaron Hall!!! He does it for me! But Uncle Charlie can not be matched. The GAP Band absolutely holds the spot for #1. Drop the mic and turn out the lights! Done.
I love both bands BUT this one goes to the Gap Band!😎
I'm from both era's. Still, Gap Band everyday all day.
The Gap Band
Gap Band! ❤
Definitely "The Gap Band" , no doubt about it ... darn I love this song 👍
Gap Band, Guy just added an extra drum beat!
Gap Band for sure.
The GAP Band, of course!!!
Gap band hands down all the way ❤no shade to guy still love em tho always ❤
C'mon is this even up for debate? The Gap band version still gets radio Play to this Day . Played at backyard BBQs clubs and private parties and everywhere else . Ain't nobody reaching for guy version stop it
Very close!...but The Gap Band narrowly edges out the win. Two beautiful songs!
The Gap, but both are great.
Hmm IT IS SOMETHING about that NEW JACK SWING sound that just makes it so much more timeless to me. Hard call tho
I give the slight edge to Gap Band, but I like Guy's remake too; Guy did a good job of staying loyal to the original. I like both versions. Plus, we don't have to crap on one to big up the other.
I enjoyed both versions equally, a different beat I loved to dance to both, I’ve made memories off of them that I never will forget
The Gap's version seems faster. Guy's is smoothe and twinkly, but slowed the bpm slightly too much to make it flat.
Have to roll with The Gap Band.... Even though Guy did a good job with their version (I was a Freshmen in High School when that album dropped)...
Covering a classic is a huge challenge for anyone. Guy did well, but Gap dropped the bomb.
The Gap band and it ain't even close
GAP Band. They're better singers; the vocals are much better.
Not even close...it's Uncle Charlie and the Gap Band by a mile.
Gap band
Who did it better, should have never been a question, nor should it ever be debated, with respect to the original makers, that contributed some of the most amazing songs, and memorable hits to the world of music. So, for anyone to ask such a question, is disturbing to me, and disrespectful to say the least. Very distasteful for this to even be presented. They're both extremely talented R&B groups that made an Everlasting mark on the music industry, which has given us very fond memories, during the height of their careers. I thank the Most High for allowing me to witness such a superb talent, such as them and countless other groups, that's incomparable to each other. Greatness stands alone.
That is a hard one. Excellent contrast. Gap Band's version is old school on cassette. Guy's version is old school on CD.
Okay my beautiful black people don't beat me up. I'm a 89 baby o seriously didn't know charlie Wilson was in a whole band in the 80s, lol I thought he was just a great solo artist that came out with that hit song take you out, lore and behold charlie has BEEN doing this! Again don't beat me up to bad yall lol I was born in 89
Yeah we are gonna be u up just kidding we will give you a break this time
First Name Charlie. Last Name Wilson. 🎤🎶🔥
Period!
The Gap Band hands down. Even though I love Guy.
Different eras obviously.
Charlie Wilson’s vocals are unmatched plus add in real musicians. Gap Band Period.
The Gap Band
I love both groups but I have to go with Gap Band . Charlie Wilson still in the game while disappointed Guy been gone for decades.
Oh did I mentioned the second was the closest to the original I’ve ever heard of any remakes .
Again well done brother .
B1 . Amin and Shalom .5
I hate to say the GAP !! Greenwood Archer and Pine. My home town!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love both versions I can't pick...lol...
U already know! GAP BAND👍
love Guy but Gap band no question. 🔥
The one and only gap BAND
GAP...all the way!
GAP BAND ...DUHHH!!!
Gap band period
Oh even entertaining lessoning I meant listening to the Gap Ban is way out of reality , but I’ll consider but of the inventioner of this segregation I Mean broadcast I ‘ll lesson I mean listen .
The the second version is the closest of any other version I’ve ever heard of any other version .
Well done from my eyes ? Imeant EARS , (sCrew TUBETS ARR WOTKINV KN MY DEV I MEAN DEVKVE 25 : 7 b1sjalom
Can you do "Ooooo, Baby, Baby" between Smokie Robinson & The Miracles (1965) and Zapp featuring Roger Troutman (1989)?
Arron Hall took that song over the top people!
Come on , you better than most if not all and every single one of us who did it better my most precious brother !!!
None of us can remake righteousness that’s NOT inspired by us alone , but is inspired by the Almighty Himself !!!
That said I can listen to the second version , if I hadn’t first or secondly had not originally heard the first .
B1 . Amin and Shalom (my precious brother , keep doing what only you ! can do best !!!!!!) .
B1 plus you ! Amin and Shalom .
The Gap Band, no debateto be had!!!!
However, I'm giving salute to Guy for their lovely rendition.
I’ve always loved this song. Although Guy version was excellent, it cannot compare to the original version. Gap band got this one.
Guy is one of my all time favorite male groups, but The Gap Band was the heavy weight champion in this musical bout for me. Uncle Charlie's voice tipped the scale as my ears weighed in. ⚖
Guy sounds nice,Gap band production hits so much harder really pulls at the heart ,makes you wanna play it over and over ❤❤❤
You know much more than any of us know ! We’re really here to listen to what you want us to hear not what you’re claiming you want our opinions ? (Screw Tubers are active again .
We ll done brother . B1
Gap Band!! They own the sound. New Jack sound does not flow. I’ve heard others sing it better.
Whom is "Guy" anyway! they did a good, updated version but i like the Gap band's version better.
There's soooo many oldies that should remain classics instead of the up and comings remaking. 😞 "cough silk sonic cough"
Love Guy but the Gap Band.owns it. Credit due for Guy keeping t the legacy alive.
Im use to the gap band version this is my first time hearing the guy cover theirs version okay but the gap band made tunes they only can sing.
Good remake of such a great song, but Uncle Charlie and The Gap Band own that mug!
Cmon Charlie did his thang 🎉🎯
Gap for the win.
ABSOLUTELY the Gap Band❣ .... But Thanks Guy👍🏾
Hey I forgot Guy song this too I like them too and they did good on the remake.. ❤️❤️❤️
Who did it better George Michael vs Mariah Carey one more try?
No competition here. GAP Band for the win.
This should have never been a question 😮😂 #tulsaoklahoma
GAP version is the best and always will be, my opinion
Gap Band hands down all the way enough said.....
The Gap Band does it better (of course.)
The GAP Band! Hands Down!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m a new jack but I’m going with GB!
Keep the original for me, Gap Band all day.
Mia X sampled this for Whatcha Wanna Do
Like the Gap's arrangement better.
The GAP'ERS all the way ☝🏽
Gap band guy represented well
Uncle Charlie has a better band too.
Gap Band
The Gap Band did it best.
Nas and AZ did it best lol
