Yes sir , I concur, confirm, agree and anything else it takes to say Billy Steward was the only singer at that time mid sixties songs had funk, jazzy, full of soul and much more Mr. Steward if English I would demand him Knighted ,be Sir Billy Steward if not crowned His majesty King of all I said in complementing the big man.All said before hearing one word out of GQ mouths .Call me bias , prejudice, unfair, whatever I stand behind the big man that was so far ahead of his he gave us just a little of his time and had to quickly move on staying ahead, ladies and gentlemen of the music world,Sir Billy Steward.

That’s interesting but I learned to appreciate history and the art of music and their Standard musical interpretations. Jazz musicians might call some old tunes “Standards.” Standards are highly respected and valued as Master peace’s and fine art. They’re continuing the advance profound thought in many musical renditions. Some songs never die (soul music tends to follow in this “Standard” pattern of respect), they just continue to entertain generations through updated and creative, interpretations. That creative art is what I like about this and all other music.

My husband sang this to me the day he pinned with his Fraternity pin and everytime I hear this song, I cry.
I hadn't heard it over a year, but have it on a cd.
so in 2021.It is still very special.
We would both have celebrated birthdays in July and it would have been 56 years ago, that he proposed to me.
He passed in 2000, but I still feel him and everytime, I hear this song he is still with me and I still cry and remember that moment he asked me to marry him.
We had danced so many times to this song, but especially every year on our anniversary of his proposal, but definitely on our wedding anniversary.
We were married ,without an expensive wedding and reception, which was in the church, so we didn't have this song played, but we did play it on our wedding night.
35 years of true happiness, cut short.
Our children and grandchildren, still call me on our anniversary and ask me,if I played, I Do Love You and we talk about their father and grandfather.
I may request this song at my funeral, because he is still with me.
    Memories.
Billy Stewart, is the only one, who can sing it and bring tears to my eyes.
    Here again 8-6-2021 @ 1:15am
Will always be my Special song.still brings tears to my eyes.

"sittin in the park" ruclips.net/video/g14VdGTDt64/видео.html billy's masterpiece i believe from '65- which made him light years ahead of the "old school" movement that really took off in the late 60's early 70's. he was smack dab in the middle of the british invasion and polished motown sounds. unfortunately he died in a car accident when he was around 33 or so. ~ lil bro

1969. Summer. Spartanburg, SC. And Billie was playing a local club. Oh yes. I had to be there.....and I was. I knew nothing of what is now called Beach Music, but knew I loved JB, Otis, Marvin and Billie! Great band and what a Fabulous Singer!!! One of my all time favorites. I didn’t hear anything of him for a while.... before learning the sad truth. Wonderful memory. Thanks Billie. Thanks for this post.
Connection....In ‘68 I saw Ramsey Lewis.....he had a great drummer, unknown guy named Maurice White. The drummer who played on “Summertime” and probably this tune too. I would later see him again with his little group, EWF. What a time. What music! Magic!

I have memories with both songs ...when I was a young child, in the 70s, they would play Billy Stewart's original version on Sundays, with the "golden oldies" in Chicago, and I think of my mother (RIP) ..but as a Gen-Xer, I find myself singing along, more, with GQ's late 70s/early 80s cover (sounding "cooler" to me - more relatable) ..but I can't say which is "better", cuz BOTH versions make me feel JUST AS good, although Billy Stewart's version hits me DEEPER, making me think of my mother and earlier memories of my family ...I find myself longing, more, for those memories...
