Yes! Your takes on this recipes are incredible Barry!

I have no idea whether or not you will read this, but I feel the need to express my appreciation for your videos. I don't find them particularly useful for learning to cook, as you and I are basically at the same level. However, my son, a toddler of 22 months, comes up to me every day and asks me to put on "Barry". When he was just learning to walk, he would run up and touch the TV any time Chloe (or young Phoebe in order videos--we have watched them all) would come in the screen. You are a staple of his life and helped to cultivate his love of standing in the kitchen and watching me cook.
Your videos have helped to cultivate and strengthen this bond between father and son. While I enjoyed your videos before, I now love them and will look back on each video with fond memories, all thanks to the association they have with this father-son experience.
I thank you endlessly. (If I were employed, I would be sending my thanks through Patreon, but this will have to do until my financial recovery.)
Cooking is nice, and so are you and your family. If ever you are in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, I would be happy to show you the absolute best way to cook hamburgers and whole chicken (my specialties). I don't think that will ever happen, but I said it intending it to be a statement showing my gratitude.
Barry questions why he makes a mess with cornstarch, and then you see how he opens the package. 😂
As a breadcrumb replacement that's extra crunchy, try whizzing up cornflakes in a blender. This is also a good option if you wanted to make a gluten free version.
Yeah i've done some cornflake chicken nuggets before, certainly gives it that crunch!
my mom has been doing a keto diet and made some air fryer chicken using ground pork rinds as her breading. they were the crunchiest chicken tenders i have ever had.
@@MrsLAnderson24 We have Pork Scratchings in the UK that are basically fried pork rinds sold as a snack and I am 100% going to blend some up.
@@AntonGully When we made them we used a grate/wire rack at the bottom of our air fryer to keep the chicken from getting soggy. You might be able to find recipes online if you're looking for instructions.
Here in Australia you can buy cornflake crumbs in a box. Its $1.06 for 100g. A quality breadcrumb is $0.88 for 100g, cheapest option is $0.34 per 100g. Panko breadcrumbs start from $1.00 per 100g
Ground chicken is the way to go for something like this, i guarantee that's what BK uses. You can also add a ton more flavor to it by seasoning the chicken 👍 press out into an even layer on a sheet tray with some parchment and partially freeze. Then you can cut into your desired fry shapes easily. I like to batch make them, and freeze them. The air fryer heats them up perfectly from frozen for a quick snack. Thanks for the vids as always B ✌️
Hack for using chicken mince: get a silicone "ice stick" (AKA "ice cubes for water bottles") tray, fill them with the meat and freeze. Once they're solid you can pop them out of the tray and store in a freezer and they should hold the shape without becoming one big lump of meat.
This will give you most uniformly shaped "fries".
I don't know about in the UK but here in the US the breadcrumbs they use are what's known as Italian seasoned breadcrumb
You could have kept the trimmings to grind up. More like a chicken forcemeat. The chicken fries are similar to nuggets where they inject a puree into a mold to get the shape before they batter and fry them.
In US, the chicken fries are made of "chopped/formed" chicken. Whiz up chicken into a fine mince, season lightly with s&p. Press into a single layer about .5 inch or 1 cm thick. Freeze for 15 minutes then cut into 1cm sticks about 4 inches long. Return to freezer while getting the FEB ready and yours was spot on. Dredge, then deep fry for best taste. Oven bake or air fry will work, but spray with oil so they don't dry out. Love your work!
As someone who's first job was in KFC, the old oil frier being unhealthy isn't quite true, if the oil is hot it seals the outside like searing..its only if you haven't crumbed properly or the oils too cool that you get problems
those are the largest chicken fries ive seen close to a chicken goujon :p burger kings are basically close to the size of a mcdonalds french fry haha
So chicken tenders, not chicken fries lol
If you can't be arsed to slice them, I don't have a problem with wasting it!
@@mrbarrylewis I’m pretty sure that they make them using the minced chicken, the third method you described. But honestly these look way better anyway.
dont know about anyone else but i always appreciate a background pug
LOVE that you're doing more air fryer recipes! I'm excited to try this one, as all I've been using mine for is 'cooking' frozen foods!
What I'm getting from this is that fried > air-fried > oven, but just eating a bowl of sauce like it was soup would be the ultimate.
They look amazing.
Just made the air fryer chicken fajita stir fry last night- two thumbs up! Looking forward to trying this one too.
For an extra crunch, I do Panko bread crumbs, but I toast them in the oven first, til they are golden..then let them cool and coat the tenders. Spray the tenders before the oven. Put ontop of a cooling rack in a pan so they are not soggy on bottom. 390*F for 14 minutes.
Amazing video, the recipe looks fantastic!
Would be awesome to see a three course ingredient challenge- like a jar of cream to make cream for desert, butter for starter and the left over buttermilk for chicken in main!
Hi Barry and Chloe! Yes, amazing chicken fries! Hope your Chloe is feeling better soon! Thank you for this great video Barry!
Yum.. I love making these. They are gone within seconds. I fry mine as everyone says the oven ones are dryer
Thanks for sharing with us Barry
You always make my thursdays mate!
From the thumbnail I thought at first you were doing mozzarella sticks, which would have been awesome as well.
Those look delicious & thanks Barry n family 😋👍
Awesome Video Barry Lewis
“Freshness Flavourness” had me in stitches on the floor! Probably helped by the various rums my mate and I had been trying 😂
Its really good idea to make compare all there frying methods and see the difference between the three chicken fries very interesting
Fryer Tuck? Oh, Barry... Dad Joke of Dad Jokes...
One of my neighbors has chickens, and they get out all the time. He also has the Devil chicken (Ayam Cemani), the one that is black to the bone. All the others just wander like derps, but the devil chicken will get in front of me and try to block me. Just menacingly. He's such a cheeky dork.
Another Great video that i have been seraching for recently as they released new dorito's chilli wave flavour ones... They really are incredible...
Your thinking of the Zen Gardens that you can get for your desk, also cold chicken is still good for a snack too as you still have the flavor there
I went into my local Burger King for the first time today to buy some chips 🍟 as I thought that the steak bake I had just purchased from Greggs wouldn’t fill me up. I saw them advertising these chicken fries. What a coincidence that you would upload this video today 😂
Barry please can you make you own fish fingers with three different types of fish say monkfish, haddock and cod 😀
Cool idea that! Could play around with the coatings too!
Love a whopper with cheese, have you seen the size of those things they are bloody door stoppers? You have a lot of chicken to eat. Hope you are better soon Chloe.
haha so it's not like the photo in the burger king and then when it comes out it's like, 'oh' lol
For corn starch, I don't know if it's available this way in the UK, but if you can get it in a plastic tub/jar it is SO much easier to deal with. I buy mine in a cylinder that holds a couple cups and can fit a measuring cup if it's not for more than about 2/3 of a cup.
Much love from Western Australia ♥♥
Great job Barry. Always love your videos.
Thanks
My daughter-in-law makes a copycat of PF Changs Orange Chicken with tenders like those you have there. Could be a good hack ! We love it 😊
I am going to try making these
If you want an idea, you could have a go at the Wimpy Spicy Beanburger, its been on their menu since the 80s and I love them but don't have a Wimpy anywhere near me these days.
Smashing video as always Barry! i always have a laugh at your struggles with corn starch! 😂😂😂. Never change man! Definitely will made the Air Fryer version! And you could do Wendy next time!
Anything in particular from Wendys?

Hey Barry, I've been told that Wetherspoons does halloumi fries with a soy and honey dip. I'm not a fan of the chain (our local 'outlets') but I'd love to see a recipe for them
question for you: whats the oldest item you have still frozen in the freezer? ive got some cooked rhubarb i processed back in 2011... might make a crumble... same goes for tins or jar foods... i got mint sauce unopened from 2018, a jar of pickeled beetroom from 19?? the prints rubbed off... packets of rice 2015 had a clear out and found more than id expected lol

Appreciate these recipes!
❤
Could add a bit of browning to the oven ones by using some spray oil.
Is minced/ground chicken not a thing in the UK? That would help getting the shape you want.
It's not that easy to get hold of, but I wrote in the recipe notes that would be a great option to do and shape it / use a silicone mould!
It is a thing in the UK.
I watched this and thought that BK has to be doing these with minced chicken, there's no way they could get the 'fries' all the same shape with whole cuts of meat for the price they charge for them.
That crunch tho
The oven in the apartment I rent doesn’t work so I got an air fryer with shelves and its amazing
The fried one tastes better, simply because the oil liberates more of the onion and garlic flavours, as they are soluble in oil. The hot oil distributes the flavours evenly on, around, and through the chicken during the cook, and fixes them in place.
What was that Oil Mister / Spray Bottle?
How I do them. Minced chicken seasoned with salt, pepper and chip spice mix. Shape into fries/chip shapes and chill for an hour before covering in panko breadcrumbs with spices then bung in the air fryer. Lovely jubbly.
My grand baby only wants Burger King chicken fries 😂 might be trying this soon!
oh wow ok, they all gave different results, but the sauce masked it!
@@Okurka. but raw chicken is ok? 🤔
@@Okurka. well I don’t know many ‘babies’ that can eat chicken 😂 she’s over 2 and eats plenty of fruits and vegetables too. Chicken also isn’t junk food. Candy is.
@@Okurka. he also did it in the oven and air fryer 🙄
I can tell you from my time working at BK that their chicken fry sauce is just their BBQ and Honey Mustard mixed together. It's really good stuff though.
You could call this a Clone Wars playlist 😂
IDK about the UK but in the US those chicken fries are made from chicken paste just like nuggets & they are also much thinner (not much bigger than US burger king french fries) than the chicken strips you made
hey barry, did you not put salt in any stage of that?
Is there a difference between an 'Air Fryer' and a 'Convection Oven'? I got a new 'air fryer' toaster oven, but it seems to do the same thing as my 'convection toaster oven'?
Hi Barry, I know this isn't related to this video, but couldnt find the responding one, so my apologies.
I loved the Joseph & Joseph collapsable pan stands. I live in Mauritius and they have now opened a shop selling the Joseph Joseph products, they sell the pan stands at Rs 899 = £15.91. Bit out of my price range, lol
What about jalapeño chicken fries? So good. Chicken Fries are awesome. Nice video Mate.
cool idea!
The way to go is to really brine the chicken in a salt water solution for about an hour or 2. It'll flavour the chicken and make it more juicy
Zesty sauce is the best!!
I'd love to see you team up with SortedFood
Ah man people ask them a lot for me, but they don't seem keen, it's all good
omg could you please do a diy kfc potato mashies with and without the gravy! that would be amazing!
Barry, we could use some Italian seasoned bread crumbs, add a touch more garlic powder, and a bit of sage or poultry seasoning, test taste for salt, then do the double dredge dance, and chill or freeze before frying, baking, etc. ... Wha'cha think ov that? Oh by the way, I've made my first batch of spicy but mild, mango chutney. Delish! so happy. canned 6 cups, kept a cup for table tonight!
Hope you feel better!
The false sincerity during the taste test kills me every time. They’re just chicken strips 😂
It's been years since the Garfunkel incident and I still can't use parsley and thyme without sage and rosemary.
Next time you do this, could we get the wife or kids blindfolded, and doing the taste testing. Perhaps even with a bite sized piece on a fork, so any kind of texture it may have is not noticed till it hits the mouth
Having worked at BK once upon a time, I have to say the chicken fries are a case of style over substance. They don't taste at all of chicken, but just of the breading. Here's hoping yours are more substantial.
Yes Chloe! Star Wars is the best!
Here in America our chicken fries are about as thick as your pinky so like maybe half to a 3rd of the size that you made I bet yours Taste way better
The best way i find is literally just cut chicken thights down the middle. They are symmetrical and thighs cant even be overcooked and dont dry out.
Not just you who can't find a BK, they seem to have shut so many restaurants down that it's like they don't want our patronage, I haven't been to one in years, and I never had their chicken fries... :P
Yeah, deffo not as easy to discover!
@@mrbarrylewis Where I am is a dead zone for BKs, have to go up to Gateshead or Newcastle (where they seem to have clusters of them!?) or more towards the coast, I remember them being everywhere, as many of them as there were Mcd's, they seem to have lost the burger wars despite being, in my opinion, the better option... :\
Barry.... It is time to do the "McDonalds BBQ Rib Sandwich" 🍔
I am well, thank you for asking. I hope you are well too.
Argh.. Now im gona have to get up and make food.
LOL sorry!
I've tried baking chicken tenders in the whole (like how Barry showed initially) and cooked them in the oven (very similar to Barry) and I think it is just a waste because they are aping what you know you want but falls so far short.
Of course Chloe loves Star Wars! Like father, like daughter.... Wait a minute...
Still going to comment this under every video xD Barry please please make Hungarian Lángos, it's is fried dough that tastes delicious, you can have many different toppings, usually sour cream and cheese, but you can have anything! Caution they're addictive!
Barry! You can't NOT tell us the story! We demand the story!
You should have some garden chickens! Channel chickens 🐓 would be so cool. We’ve had chickens free roam our land and they were so cool. Now we run a b&b our next ones will need a big coop in the woodland sadly but they make awesome animals to have around
I would love to, also just to see Mrs B run away from them constantly!
@@mrbarrylewis haha they’re very intruative, if they sense people don’t like them they avoid. If you had a large coop she wouldn’t have them going close! Boston would love them, my cats (who we thought would try and hunt them) would sleep next to them and lay watching them for ages. Bet the kids would love it too. Especially rescue chickens, they know you’ve given them a new chance in life.
Could also use ground chicken and shape them into fries...
Never had them, look good. I don't fry, don't airfry. Don't understand why people bake but don't spray with oil. It's the only reason the airfry looks better. I've got a very old oven fried chicken recipe that calls for a small bit of melted butter poured over before baking. Lovely color.
what the hell, emm.. lookig forward to the vid and interests.. just that photo alone made me physically recoil in terror for some reason...I am lucky as hell that I did not run into you all that night.. or anyone doing that .. ayyyy 🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊
Can you try snickers ice cream bars please
CHICKEN I want to try all of them so much
There was a point in my life that I wanted to get the Cheetos Chicken Fries back in 2016 or 2018... definitely 2018. I was on a trip with my family, and we drove to a gas station with a BK there... we just got Chicken nuggs instead...
The modern of evolution cooking of chicken strips 🐔 😁
The chicken fries we have here in the States are nothing like what you apparently have there. Ours are very skinny, have more breading than meat, and in tasting them, you wonder if that's actually chicken. What you made here is what we refer to as chicken tenders.
the secret to not getting covered in cornflour, is to buy it in a bag, not a box. and if you do get a box, don't rip the inner bag like an absolute monster!! ✂✂✂
there's a vegan deli/supermarket in town here and I get cornflour from there. I don't think I spent more than £1.30 for it.
also - tumeric for colour. 👍
Pretty sure chicken fries in the US are made of pink slime, or some pureed chicken mix. Definitely not an actual cut of chicken.
all thru this video i was thinking how Barry's "three" sounds like "free".... what does "three free fries, thrice" sound like in Barry's accent?
Teach us how to make a greggs chicken bake!!!!!!!
Egg shortage? I just go to a local farm and get a couple of dozen ridiculously fresh free-range oeufs from their egg-vending machine. I've also bought what they term 'wonky eggs' - perfectly all right, but odd sizes, some too big, some too small; not perfect enough for the big shops. Last time I bought some, there were several double yolkers in the selection.
these arent chicken fries, they are ground chicken. these are just tenders
Deep fryer will always taste better 😂
The price of eggs has barely gone up, Barry. Iceland have 10 for 1.99
anymore colabs with Ashens on the cards? '' Will it air fry''
Idk about you but that seemed like a normal sized portion chicken for me 😂😂
I've had Burger King's chicken fries when my tastebuds were functional. It maybe that particular store needed fresh fryer oil, but I thought they were disgusting. I passed them on to my brother. I'm sure yours are much nicer!
It’s probably just a me thing but it drives me nuts that bk don’t put an even amount instead of 8 or 10 there’s always 9
