"$400 used but good 33" Chinaco mud claws. Around 50% tread left (1/64"), rims are good (only three of them leak but they'll hold air a whole day if you don't drive it). Will drop off at your place for an extra $50. No low balls; I know what I have."
Lots of people overprice their junk on Craigslist, but you can also find some good deals too. Like if the ad says "Would make a good project vehicle" it really means it's a piece of shit they can't fix.
Well crap! When I was in college and it was just 10 years ago, I worked in a alignment and tire shop. Seeing this video made me realize how far even mounting and balancing technology has come along. Great video thanks for no music! Just watching a man do his job...something satisfying about that :)
well for one that is a great machine but from what i saw at 9:20 there is a yellow dot on the tire that lines up with the valve stem and he didn't line them up so your tire will be farther out of balance than it's supposed to be
Finally starting my Jeep build! I have had da ton of ZJ's over the years but I finally get to build one the way I have been wanting. Picked up a new Iron Rock Off-road Premium 3.5" lift and a new rear sway bar. Also running some new 31" general grabber all terrains. Can't wait to get the axles trussed, lockers and a winch. I also have the np231 swap with the 5.2. Your builds are good motivation.
i go to a tech school, and we have the tire and balance machines like those, and its nice to actually understand what the stuff on there meant. like runout. my instructors never taught me anything past putting the right weights on. that was some good info!!
tire machines and balancers are incredible nowadays..i worked in the tire and wheel business for 10 years and was amazed at seeing tech brought into the industry. thanks for sharing.take care.
The yellow dot on the tire is for aluminum wheels supposed to be lined up with the valve stem the red dot the same thing but for steel wheels if he would have done that the balance and run out all together would have been closer 👍😎
I was thinking about that around 9:08 Isn't it suppose to be yellow dot on valve stem unless you have a red dot than "red rules". Something like that. Probably not the end of the world but I was thinking the same thing.
John true and true for both of you. You don't need to line up the dots, but if you can and remember to before you put air in the tire, you should do it. It just means you don't need to put on as many weights.
Liam S - If he would have turned the tire he could have properly mounted it with nearly no weights. I don't always line up the dot, because I will position the tire until it barely needs any weight. Just because it zeros out on the balancer doesn't mean it's "right". Plus customers here like there tires "show mounted" to their wheels and don't care, so the tire sidewall lettering gets centered to the wheel and never put weights on the face of the wheel. That tire in this vid never should have taken that much weight. I'm not being rude, it's hard to explain correctly by writing on here.
K Digiacomo of course that's ideal. That's similar what koeniggsegg does with their carbon fiber wheels. The add a few extra layers of carbon fiber to offset the weight of the tpms sensor so additional weights won't be needed. I work at a tire shop that requires speed because we get a lot of customers because we are in a highly populated area of Los Angeles, and also down the street from the notorious The Snake where jay Leno does his Jay Leno's Garage videos and car and motorcycle enthusiasts up and drive (and very often drift) up and down all day every day so we get a lot of performance cars. If I didn't need to be speedy with servicing a cars tires, I would do what you do, but alas I cannot :(
I have the same balancing machine at my work. Well used to. We have one left but we upgraded the rest to the newest model which uses lasers and magic to size the wheel and show where the weights need to be placed.
You should see the balancers we have at discount tire. Ours measure with lasers only so you don't have to use the data set arm which he used to measure the wheel. it does automatic Road Force to measure run out and the hood automatically opens by itself oh I forgot to mention it's all touch screen too!
TXBEER REVIEWS we had one... Hunter road force... But we barely fuck with tires and it took up too much space. Everyone goes to discount so there's no point.
Love the guys at RY4x4! Great work and great wheelers. The red dot on the tire is supposed to line up with the valve stem though as I have been taught.
Shop I'm at has the same machine. It's a pretty spiffy tool. Real useful for elimination wheels and tires as a concern for felt vibrations from the road. Also great for spotting a bent wheel.
Most all new tires have a dot marked on the side wall from the factory indicating the heavy side of the tire. This typically gets placed either near or away from the heavy or light side of the rim depending on type of rim alloy, steel, TPS. A welded steel rim is typically heaviest at the weld. Some alloy TPS rims are heaviest at the valve stem hole, some are not. These are the starting points before force matching.
Im looking for new cheaper tires to replace my worn out Pro comp MT2'S and couldnt help but notice how similar the tread pattern is on these. (Almost identical) I might have a winner! The mt2's did great for me.
I noticed your headliner was stripped off. I did the same to mine and ended up spraying a coat or two of rubber undercoating on it. Scraped all of the headliner foam off before I did it also. Looks good, won't sag, and cost about 12 dollars instead of redoing the headliner. If it gets a scuff just spray a quick squirt on it and you are good to go. Just an idea for jeep folks out there who don't want to spend a whole lot or want to deal with headliner laying on the top of your head while driving.
I like your channel and have a 96 cheap jeep if you wanted to continue your cheap jeep content you could lift our family jeep the same and you could record it on your channel.
Those new tires look great. I wish we here in B.C. Canada could purchase dem ere too .LOL .Butt seri ouly Bleeper , nice rubber on your Gumby thar. Cheers ,keep the shiny side up.
I found a great deal on Craigslist. Someone was getting rid of literally new Goodyear authorities and wrangler tires for $200 I was able to talk him down to 160 . Still have them on my ranger. They're also 31s
Interesting timing. Just had this done on my JK yesterday when troubleshooting front end vibration (problem solved), then watched your video explaining it.
Wish I had this info yesterday!! Had to take off my 1 year old COOPER DISCOVERER STT 33"tires and buy BF GOODRICH KM2 tires because nobody could balance them!! Thought it could be those PRO COMP rims, but now the tires are running well with no DEATH WOBBLE.....
Damn that's pretty awesome. When I started watching this I thought I knew everything about tire balancing and tire balancing machines. Good video thanks for sharing.
Also the hub centric cone should be on the inside of the wheel while balancing its meant to simulate the hub centric centering of a normal hub on a car
We usually only road force if there is an issue balancing or an issue with a tire. same with run out, if it says it needs like 10+ ounces of weight you know you need to run those tests.
I've punished these 285/75-16 recaps from tirerecappers for 32k+ miles on my Rubicon and they still have over 6/32's of tread. $700 for 5 shipped with the crushed acorn shell and matching BFG carcasses for winter traction. Just mentioning another option than the Chinese stuff.
I noticed that your right rear has 2 weights almost 90 degrees away from each other. Your tire guy needs to calibrate his balancer. The only time you should have 2 weights on the same plain is like your right front where the weight calls for more than 3.00 ounces and they have to put 2 combined weights side by side to 0 out. The right rear is what is know as counterbalancing a tire.
A bought those tires for my XJ except 32s and they're the best tires ive owned so far , the price of them almost had me skeptical but then I tried them out and they're a quality tire and a great price you can't beat
Looks a lot better. Did you happen to look into a set of Treadwright Guard Gogs or Claws? They are a remolded tire. They used to let you request the carcass that was used. So, if you wanted good sidewall protection and flex, you could request the Claws on BFG KO2 carcasses. Just another cheap option for what I hear are decent tires.
Really cool video. Pep boys has the same machine, just finding someone that works there that cares enough to use it to its full potential... that's tricky
It's not about totally about caring enough, it's about the money. Flat rate guys mostly do care enough but if it's a true road force issue it's a pain in the ass to have to break everything down and do it right and it doesn't pay much, either. And most general service techs that do tire work either don't understand it, or they don't care.
You're supposed to put the cone on the inside hub of a wheel when using a Hunter GSP 9700. The front hub bore is to hold a center cap, that's about it.
I work for discount tire, and we use those same machines to balance! We use the balancers a little different, though. We use the changing machines WAY different, it was actually kinda hard to watch haha.
+Garrett McDevitt do you guys use the machines to force match?, or do you just have the machines? I've always wondered how seriously these guys take their jobs... I've had hit and miss service from discount tire.
BleepinJeep first off, I can all but guarantee that the hit or miss service is from new techs. There's a HUGE learning curve (usually around 6 or 7 months to get proficient) As far as force matching goes, we don't usually force match on the first mounting unless the customer requests it. The construction on modern day tires and wheels (especially on passenger tires, which is mostly what we do) is so good that it's rarely necessary. Big run-outs really only happen on larger vehicles, which have beefier suspension, and more tolerance for out of round tires. But if a customer complains of vibrations after the tires are balanced, we'll road force them. I hope that makes sense. If you have any questions, let me know!
I bought a set of Treadwright tires and have had nothing but problems. Couple hundred dollars down the drain just in having shops try and figure out why they wobble so bad (Out of round). I have contacted Treadwright multiple times just to have them tell me that despite purchasing the warranty they still can't help me.

Tires look really good! Is that like a house brand your buddy sells at his shop? I've never heard of those before, but they look sharp and like the perfect candidate for cheap jeep!
Most of those at the tire shop aren't legal to drive on the street here. Tires can't stick out more than 2" beyond the wheel well. And if they stick out at all. You are required to have mud flaps.
Mr1998jeepcherokee I know they are different. That is why I made the statement where I live. Where you live they have frost laws. A lot of roads don't say if you are allowed to go down them certain times of the year. Until you get caught. Got busted twice there. Next time I want a map. Lol.😂 👍
This is probably a stupid question but I just bought an 04 WJ limited 4.7 and I’m wondering what the largest tires I can run on it stock. I’ve been looking in line but there’s a lot of conflicting info. I’m looking at the Bf Goodrich all terrains. What size would you say is the limit without rubbing
Hey BJ. have you heard of anyone cutting old tyres with a chain saw? just for offroad. i am considering giving it a try on some old tyres on rims. cheers
Hi Mate. Great videos. Really like them and probably will check them all :-). Well done, you are Gr8. Could you please tell what year is this Cherokee? Thinking about getting a used GC Ltd 1994 5.2 V8. How good is it please. Just wondering if I have to buy a Petrol Station....uffffff they drink big time do they!!!. Thanks in advance
Cheap tires are perfect for what the jeep will be used for. Not like it's a daily or anything. I went with bfg AT ko2 on my xj but that's just because I couldn't finance cheap tires lol those are usually a cash deal thing. Took me 7 months to payoff $1000 worth of tires but nothing compares to bfg all terrain imo.
Holly shit. How did you come up with your visual aid for run out? That’s really cool way of depicting it. I thought this ought to be good when started to explain it. But really good man. I think the way you showed it was right on. I can’t ever explain anything. Well done.
Do u have any opinion on the 33/10.50 general grabber tires? I’m about to get some I do believe. 1990 xj 2 door back yard project coming together. Driving up to rustys off road this week to get some kinda lift

I'd say that was a darn good deal, around $130+ each👍. Heck of a tire and balancing machine, interesting!!!
Do a headliner video for cheap jeep. Should be cheap and interesting. Plus it looks like it needs one
Yeah, I'll second that. Something I'll be needing to do to mine eventually
I run those same tires and absolutely love them
I found a great deal on Craigslist. Someone was getting rid of literally new Goodyear authorities and wrangler tires for $200 I was able to talk him down to 160 . Still have them on my ranger. They're also 31s
Something mesmerizing about mud tires getting mounted....
Great find! Our 95' GC was an Awesome off road Jeep.
Woah, my 1998 Ford Ranger came with the same set of rims. I always wondered where they came from. Pretty cool to see ahaha
Interesting timing. Just had this done on my JK yesterday when troubleshooting front end vibration (problem solved), then watched your video explaining it.

Tire tip use side cutters to cut the bottom of the value stem (inside the tire) off and thy pull through really easy and fast
Damn that's pretty awesome.
When I started watching this I thought I knew everything about tire balancing and tire balancing machines. Good video thanks for sharing.
Dude you have a great sense of humor! Love your videos, I’m not new to off-roading but a Jeep noob, learning a good amount of info. Thanks!

Federal couragia tires don't last long but they hook real good
I loved the wallet scene! It was funny AF!
It’s a typical Jeep owner’s wallet.

Excellent arts and crafts. 11/10 would recommend
do you have a link to where we can buy these tires? :)

If you own a Wrangler NEVER mess with the grill, EVER.
agreed
Leon Springs Boys TV lol soo scarry
Yeah man, someone needs to feed those jeeps a snickers bar...
I just purchased 5 Achilles Desert Hawk X-MT 37 inch tires for my LJ. ($1336 shipped)
I'm just minding my business over here building a jeep liberty lol
Chase Williams same here brother what year
ive had those same Achilles desert hawk xmt tires in a 33 12.50 15, my favorite tires so far
They look legit. I actually kinda like the tread pattern.
Need long arms or at least some adjustable mid-length ones for your rear end there to get those new tires centered up in the fender wells
Your tires are great looking! It also is a much better look on the Jeep!!
How about an update on how much $ you have in the cheap jeep so far. :)
over budget... its a jeep...
Of course, that's a given. But by how much....
SNAFU

Heck of a deal! Pretty good video man 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
15:46 is that jku cambered? or is something broken?
Jason Glugla it's sort of in a ditch twisted up a little
I bought a set of Treadwright tires and have had nothing but problems.
Couple hundred dollars down the drain just in having shops try and
figure out why they wobble so bad (Out of round). I have contacted
Treadwright multiple times just to have them tell me that despite
purchasing the warranty they still can't help me.
Have these tyres slightly different here in nz dont have the serping. Not bat off road but in the wet on tarmac they are dangerous
Have you done anything with the exhaust so far? It's sounding pretty sweet.
+Des Bennett it's a flowmaster from when I bought it.
BleepinJeep Nice, I'm going to go with the same on the 4.0l in the Comanche I'm currently building. keep up the good work!

That is Mark Wheat’s OFF CAMBER !!! He’s an amazing dude. You should get together with him.
This was really cool and interesting to watch.
recently got almost new tires and better rims for my xj for $200 from a guy parting out a car. grabbed a cd player, headlight, and bezel too.
You forgot to tell them to glue them on with GeoCel. What if you want to go down to 3 psi now?
The intro was really cool!
It’s pretty awesome how you can just change your wheel and tire turn cool truck into a bad ass truck!!!!
Thanks 🙏
Tires look really good! Is that like a house brand your buddy sells at his shop? I've never heard of those before, but they look sharp and like the perfect candidate for cheap jeep!
Awesome videos. Subbed. I have a 2000 Jeep GC,WJ. 3.5" lift on 31" Mud's. You've inspired me big time. Thanks.
So what brand and modle we're those tires??
What kind of tires were on the off camber green jeep. They looked like a damn good tire
Looks like maxxis trepadors
Good job Matt. That was really interesting.
You did the slow mo money shot of the NOT cheap Jeeps and I still like your ZJ more
Nice shoes. Are they noisy? My 07 Jeep Commander wanted some like that, but she is also a family hauler.
rock your 4x4 has a nice shop going on!! ever been to jeepism in townsend?
Most of those at the tire shop aren't legal to drive on the street here. Tires can't stick out more than 2" beyond the wheel well. And if they stick out at all. You are required to have mud flaps.
Thom Geren all state laws are different. Here in Michigan your tires can stick out all you want. No flare or mud flap laws.
Mr1998jeepcherokee I know they are different. That is why I made the statement where I live. Where you live they have frost laws. A lot of roads don't say if you are allowed to go down them certain times of the year. Until you get caught. Got busted twice there. Next time I want a map. Lol.😂 👍
nice tires and hell of a deal . i my self 37s 38s or 40s . but it all depends on the height i gess .im cheaking all your videos love them all .

Maybe 31"
Thanks man
What size did you get? Have you lifted it since?
how did the tires feel on the ride home?
David Hancock the description said they ride good

Holly shit. How did you come up with your visual aid for run out? That’s really cool way of depicting it. I thought this ought to be good when started to explain it. But really good man. I think the way you showed it was right on. I can’t ever explain anything. Well done.
the tires sounds like a deal but how long with they last , how many road miles and trails before you're back getting another set
Do u have any opinion on the 33/10.50 general grabber tires? I’m about to get some I do believe. 1990 xj 2 door back yard project coming together. Driving up to rustys off road this week to get some kinda lift
31's look really good on the Grand
That song you put at the beginning just reminded me of a commercial and I can't remember what the commercial is
for anyone interested about the Achilies XMT......theyre the exact same tire as the Pro comp Xtreme M/T 2.....but for like $100 less a tire.
I have them on my XJ (33x12.50/15) and they're awesome!
Good job, man. But damn. Gotta push that rear end back a little.
